  1. Fallout 4 — Boston Makes Me Feel Good

For me it was about 45 minutes to an hour into the game. As soon as you gain the ability to do base building, you get the opportunity to tinker with weapons and armor as well. There are work benches in your settlements. Shortly after that you learn that the wasteland's most precious resource is duct tape. Hah, I'd totally forgotten that the Fallout world has fusion but transistors were late to the party. I'm not weirded out by the strangeness of the world, just bummed that apparently only 8 songs were popular from coast to coast on the radio.
  2. Fallout 4 — Boston Makes Me Feel Good

I do not care at all about the base building, but I already care a great deal about the gun building. SCOPES AND STOCKS. POCKETS IN MY JACKET.
  3. I Had a Random Thought (About Video Games)

I realize this could also go into the pedantry thread because it's orbiting around semantics, but I didn't make the comment about what I like or dislike, or my feelings on how media should or should not be consumed. It's a desire and not a necessity. That's the long and the short of my comment. Sometimes I like digging in and saying "look at all the games I played!" I tend to orient my goals towards accomplishments in a single game rather than spreading them out (Destiny folks can probably vouch for that from me), but I acknowledge it's my choice to do so and I could spread out my play time more for sure.
  4. I played a LOT of Ceasar 3. I was probably better at that than I was at either Civ or Sim City. Our family also played quite a bit of Lords of Magic. Not a city builder, but an Impressions game.
  5. Destiny

I still don't have Sleeper Simulant, No Time To Explain, or Black Spindle. I would have probably raided yesterday if Fallout didn't release. I didn't even do Trials of Osiris because I don't really have a crucible crew. THERE IS STILL SO MUCH TO DO.
  6. I Had a Random Thought (About Video Games)

Read this in another thread. Definitely not a discussion for that thread, and I certainly don't want to challenge the assertion. This isn't directed towards the person, just the statement. But I had a random thought... No, you don't. We don't have to play enough games to have a GOTY list! We don't need to 1) build a backlog, 2) feel guilty about a backlog, or 3) consume a backlog. You don't have to race through games, you don't have to finish one game to start another game. I'm not saying one shouldn't do these things, or that it is wrong in some way to approach a hobby in that fashion. We have just somehow patterned our gaming years after game reviewers, who talk about having to approach games in that way out of job necessity. I'm merely saying that these statements are not of necessity, they're of desire. We don't need to consume any certain amount of games, we just want to play them. I played a hundred hours of Witcher, and I'm about to dive into an untold number of hours of Fallout, and if MGS and Just Cause get left by the wayside because of that... that's ok.
  7. Fallout 4 — Boston Makes Me Feel Good

I do not mean to be contentious, but how do you spoil the beginning of something?
  8. Fallout 4 — Boston Makes Me Feel Good

I think I've made my peace with the keyboard/mouse interface. I hit a perfect stopping point when it was time to go to bed, and then I played for another hour and a half. The game's hooked me. The bumpy start had me worried, but nope I'm good! Yay Fallout!
  9. Fallout 4 — Boston Makes Me Feel Good

Based on my exhausted/excited midnight play session, I literally can't use the mouse when the controller is on. It's possible that's not true!
  10. Fallout 4 — Boston Makes Me Feel Good

Wow, Bethesda really, really doesn't want you to play with a keyboard do they? Non world-movement interfacing is really rough. Using the arrow keys to select things in your settlements is bad and terrible.
  11. Fallout 4 — Boston Makes Me Feel Good

Watching the Giant Bomb quick look, and it went from strong feeling that I should get Fallout 4 to absolute certainty that I will own it before unlock at midnight.
  12. I Had a Random Thought (About Video Games)

I played Uncharted 2 a year or two after it came out. It was a good game mostly. Maybe an 8/10? The ending FUCKING SUCKED. The entire temple fight against humans and then against mutant bullshit really marred a fun experience up to that point.
  13. Fallout 4 — Boston Makes Me Feel Good

Rock Paper Shotgun's Alec Meer This is why I'm fine that it's more, because it's possibly better.
  14. Fallout 4 — Boston Makes Me Feel Good

Good, that's the thing I want. Check every box on the bingo card, even the contradictory ones.

  16. What are you trying to do with the computer? My gut feeling is pairing a current spec video card with a lower end dual core processor that's more than a year old is not a good marriage, but I have not been following cpu updates in a couple of years with more than a passing knowledge of what architecture they're using. The biggest selling point on getting the i3 to my mind is the ability to update to a faster haswell chip at some point. http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/best-cpus,3986.html Tom's Hardware recommends the i3-4170 for a budget cpu, but from poking around it's basically the same as a 4160, so get the best price if you go that option. Are you buying a new motherboard? The i5-6500 is, right this second and may expire at any time, within about $10-15 of the i5-4460 and is new skylake architecture. I guess what I'm saying is I don't know! What I do know for sure is a 500W psu should work for you.
  17. I have felt the no exposure to Fallout 4 thing, and then I remember they released another, wildly successful video game to promote that first game, and Chris talked about it on a podcast.
  18. Esports Today 11/3/15: World's Greatest

Corelli, I pretty much agree with you. KOO is the team that pioneered Juggermaw, a strategy that wins late/super late game. They have good enough map control and warding (this is doing them a disservice, they are the 2nd place team at worlds, but we'll say good enough), but their strength is winning an immaculately danced teamfight at 40 minutes and breaking the back of someone who was even or possibly ahead because their positioning and teamfighting were superior. It turns out SKT is better at that throughout the whole game, and has multiple lanes capable of breaking the game open. Pray is a great positional carry, Hojin shines on certain patches (Lee Sin patches), but KurO is not in the otherworldly class of mid laners. Smeb is the only one (I feel) who can just heave the rest of the team on his back and demand a victory from the other team. I can't believe we're having this conversation about Bengi when 6-8 months ago people were demanding he be replaced because he was a tire fire in the jungle. I would for sure take KaKAO over Bengi. I'd maybe take a couple other junglers over him too, but he's never been about style and flashy play. He's always been about warding the hell out of the jungle and solo lane synergy. Bengi improves when you have two solo lanes that are monsters. I think Marin had a better year than Faker this year. I think Faker is a better player, but Marin had a better year. Faker pioneers champions. He is literally unbannable. It's also funny to hear Faker be referred to as "the old man" because he's 19 years old. So, this is a criticism, but please understand that it is born out of my own neuroses and is my fault for hearing it and not yours for saying it but if I don't yell into the void on the internet I'll explode, sorry in advance: Rob, SK is in the EU and got relegated after a horrendous summer split. SKT is the team that just won Worlds.
  19. Yes, that's exactly correct with regard to the different tournaments. The closest sporting analogue is the English football (soccer) system of promotion and relegation between the different tiers of leagues. Code A are professional players fighting to win their way into the Code S tournament, and Code S is the pinnacle of 1v1 starcraftery. Perennial Code A players are the guys who are just below the waterline of star talent. In global terms they are world class players. Basically all Grandmaster (if that's still the highest SC ladder rank), but in terms of professional talent they are the back end of your team lineup. Looking at when they were competing, they also could have been players who found a particular thing that worked well, but patches, game releases, and general talent swell means they might have been passed by. I don't really know much about them other than I'd heard of Sniper and SC.
  20. Fallout 4 — Boston Makes Me Feel Good

Oh yes indeed. I have 90+ hours into Witcher 3, and a friend is finishing it right now and asking me about my play through/telling me his. I'm hoping for something half as immersive as this. Thread title is still the best thread title. Good lord Fallout has the best theme music.
  21. Fallout 4 — Boston Makes Me Feel Good

I think I would be way more excited about Fallout if life and a giant slate of games wasn't so completely overwhelming right now. I will probably get pretty excited about 48 hours before it releases.
  22. Destiny

Aww, I'm always busy on Black Spindle Day. I might be around after 10pm.
  23. If that's the same sC, then 4 of them were Code A or better. Sniper won a GSL back in 2012. None of them have made any real waves in a couple years.
  24. HOWL O'WEEN (Halloween)

Aww that sucks, it's a great costume. I LOVE the gone home original sound track!
