Idle Thumbs 239: Trash Can Sally
Badfinger replied to Jake's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
The character Sean was thinking of is actually named Trash Can Carla. You were right, Sean! http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Trashcan_Carla Going by my shoddy memory, depending on the faction and level of shield, the bombers fly in at the top of the shield level. So they drop their bombs, which detonate at the top of the shield and backblast into the bombers. e: oh you said flaw, not bug. Correcting myself. My strategy probably would have been to transport-drop Support ACUs into their base, destroy as much as possible, and send in a second wave when their destruction nukes shields or power. It SOUNDS like that would have been viable based on your restrictions. The other option is attempting to gain air superiority early to get conduits to do conventional army transport drops. Now I wanna play SupCom. -
Official Giant Bomb Thread Mostly for Complaining About Dan
Badfinger replied to tegan's topic in Idle Banter
I do not feel bad for Dan in any way. Dan certainly doesn't feel bad for himself, he invites it (sometimes intentionally). The opposite side of that question was just to give up Taco Bell, which seems like the obvious answer no matter how much you like something.- 1367 replies

SUPER HOT SUPER HOT -
Movies set in July but don't specifically deal with heat and bugs aren't somehow not "summer" movies. Is "It's a Wonderful Life" a Christmas movie?

Buy the $20 version, and if you like it enough spend the next $20.

I would nostalgia-play some ME3 Multiplayer. I'm not on Bjorn's level, but I played at least 120 hours of ME3 multiplayer. Never beat the story. Maybe not even a quarter of the way through.

I bought Helldivers (not actually a sale item!) and Luftrausers. Is there an options menu in Luftrausers? I desperately need to turn the volume down and all the normal buttons just quit the game.

I used to have qualms about starting threads because I didn't know if other people would get any benefit out of them. If I get what I was looking for out of them it was worth the thread, even if that was "figuring out other people aren't interested in this subject".

Yes, planning in advance who I'll be team killing sounds pretty good. I'd be in for that.

I watched the entire Cool Ghosts dealie (thank you for linking to that, I subscribed to their podcast which I will try soon), plus I was also really interested in this when it came out on Sony platforms. It reignited something I already had. I think the $20 is worth it just for the anticipation, but I have reasonable hopes the game will pull through as well.

The PC "beta" aka "press and tastemaker release" has started today. People are streaming it, and I still really want to play it right now. I can't EXTRA pre-order this, dammit.

Ah crap. I guess I should come completely clean. I'm an android, and when I posted that I hadn't finished my morning POST subroutine all the way. Sorry everyone.
-
Oh sorry, this is my fault. I shorten "kilopost" to just "post". Poor nomenclature.

If it's fake it's an incredibly long time to wait to spring a joke. 4 years?

The reason Bethesda and Ubisoft want to blacklist Kotaku is precisely the same reason it's directly against their best interests to do so. Kotaku is a large, basically reputable publication with broad reach. That is exactly the type of outlet you want reporting on the "good" stuff about your company and its games. Of course you can find information basically anywhere games are talked about, but many people know and choose to get it from Kotaku. Restricting access isn't in violation of some sort of code, but it sure suggests you have something to hide and deserve additional scrutiny and a critical eye.

Shouldn't it be 1024 posts? Or is that just a megapost? Does it need to be 1024 pages? Will the page file be too big?!

Idle Thumbs 238: From Earth to Pluto
Badfinger replied to Jake's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
That's curious. What was funky about it for you? I've been using it for years for WoW, SC2, Diablo, and now HOTS/Overwatch. It's been basically amazing. Double especially when you get the urge to reinstall world of warcraft, and you can play with 3-4 gigs downloaded and it really does stream in like current consoles trick you into thinking. -
Are people on PC using m/k or controller? Are the keys mappable, and if not are they still a jumbled mess?

The best install screens still belong to old Westwood RTS games. The worst part of the "C&C: First 10 Years" collection is that it's just a normal windows install. -
Are you the top comment on the Steam reviews? I read some stuff and watched some videos. Despite sharing an awful lot of adjectives, these games don't actually look like they have similar focuses at all. Also one of the screenshots is framed in a way that it appears to be a total rip straight out of Modern Warfare, strangely.

I am playing the beta. I played a pretty decent chunk in the previous "actual" betas, both closed and open. It's a very, very interesting game. It's nice to see more than three maps now! I love the tight and tuned package, this is exactly the kind of tactical shooter I get into. I just wonder if all of that adds up to be worth $60 for me personally.

I would be willing to wager something significant that the next Elder Scrolls game will not have full voice acting. The difference between full voice acting for a wife and a husband vs all the permutations possible along the spectrum of every Elder Scrolls race is pretty big. The only way I could see it happening is if you managed to shoehorn all the voices into the 5 or 6 total like Saints Row 3rd had. -
Oh yeah, absolutely. It tries its best to get you with people of similar level, and similar skill level. The algorithm isn't just win loss, it's weighted ala elo as well.

I was never into the meta stuff much, but the daily deals helped organize the sale for me. Post your highlights on deals, because apparently Valve won't! Elite: Dangerous is $15, which makes me that much more antsy that I got impatient and preordered a game I played for three weeks. Wolfenstein The New Order is $9, which is an awesome deal. That's last year's release not the standalone. Company of Heroes 2 is $9, which is super tempting.

Overwatch - That time Blizzard made a non-Diablocraft game.

Interesting. I think loadouts would fracture this game like they did (for me) with TF2. The comfort of seeing a silhouette and knowing exactly, to the number, what they're capable of is very key in a character driven game. Seeing a demo man and it turns out he actually has a sword and pistol or something is game breaking to the experience I first purchased.
