  1. That will change. I'm not saying it's an incredible menagerie of unique bosses, but it's not just flamethrower mans from here to infinity. There's variety, especially across factions. I mean, I'm not saying, just saying - I killed a helicopter and it literally rained purple gear across the entire level.
  2. The Next President

I continue to maintain that there is a statistically improbable chance that the thread title ends up being accurate, so having a conversation about relevant politicians seems like a useful outlet for the thread.
  3. It sounds extremely challenging! Agreed, do missions with people. Trawl the world on your own time. This game is gonna take at least 25+ hours to hit max level even if all you're doing is trying to maximize exp gain. There's been a lot of cross talk about how the enemies are "bullet sponges". If they are taking 20 seconds to down at-level, you need to upgrade your gear. In level appropriate duds, I can down 2-3 enemies per magazine out in the world. The normal enemies are easy. The purple enemies can definitely be taken down quickly. It's the elites that are rough. And they ARE rough. One of the things I liked about the missions is that the "boss" fights aren't just literally a single man standing there giving it to you. It's multiple enemies, lots of environmental stuff in play, verticality, stuff like that. Holy shit the pyrotechnic show when 4 people in a group pop their skills to start an engagement, too. It's really awesome. Matchmaking has been a breeze too. THe only hiccup is if you don't go to the physical location to queue you might get dropped into the middle of someone's mission.
  4. Yes, playing on normal at the appropriate level the missions seemed to work for less than a full squad. I basically injected this game straight into my veins. I don't recommend that, but I have really enjoyed it. It appears that you can basically mainline the game and be roughly the correct level. With a little side work, you can roll through as you unlock the new districts. There is a lot of video game here even if you're ONLY playing it as a single player/co-op experience. My friend really does NOT like the "large human with lots of health" model, but I am totally fine with it. However, the structure of the missions themselves is really interesting and varied. I liked them a lot. I'm interested to see the level 30 dark zone, and try the hard missions. There's also something called "challenge" missions, which scares me. I definitely recommend NOT doing this like it is your drug. The side missions can be repetitive if you do 40 of them in 2 days!
  5. The Next President

https://twitter.com/rebeccaballhaus/status/707433867842551809 I'm not saying he has a flat 0% chance of winning, but in a general election he's almost but not quite unelectable.
  6. I would have been really shocked to not have that be the case. The whole "it's only the dark zone at level 30" thing didn't seem at all plausible to me. I'm really enjoying this game. There is a LOT of content if all you did was play the single player stuff to level 30 and quit. I mean, a lot. If anyone thought they were going to rush and hit level 30 in a day (not here, just generally), they're kidding themselves. The "i'll only ever go to the dark zone" crew is also kidding themselves. All the relevant upgrades are acquired through missions, not through levels.
  7. I wish I could volunteer to take advantage of your fantastically generous offer. That's really rad of you.
  8. The Open Beta had none of those shenanigans. I played fewer hours in the open than the closed, but in all my time in the DZ I didn't see a single thing that I could obviously categorize as someone hacking or cheating. In hindsight it seems very purposeful that they left the closed beta wide open, and took that information for the next one. I feel quite confident about the full release. Speaking of the full release, it's out soon/today/now depending on where you are and what you have. CONSOLE PHYSICAL COPY - The game is out now, it released 3/8 at 12:01AM Australian. CONSOLE DIGITAL COPY - The game unlocks for you whenever 3/8 12:01AM local time is. PC COPY - Servers go live 12:01 3/8 EST (5AM GMT). that's almost precisely 11 hours from this post.
  9. The Next President

I am a supporter of Sanders, but he is wildly behind, no matter how you squint at the delegates. Fortunately, Trump as the nominee for the Republican party is just about their own worst nightmare. That's exactly the reason they're starting to jockey and line up to try and split the convention. Not only does he not represent the Republican base interests, he's lined up to get absolutely annihilated in a general election.
  10. The McElroy Family of Products

The opposite of what I said is something like the Tom Bodett interlude might be the funniest single sequence in TAZ. It was totally off the cuff. They're clearly more than capable of having an amazing interaction.
  11. The McElroy Family of Products

I also enjoy the parts where they literally learn how to play D&D, but if you're interested in the stories then Episode 1.5 is absolutely the place to start. I just got to the current adventure arc. I've been basically blasting through all these. I still love it, but even though it's in character it's starting to get on me just how much disregard they have for recurring NPCs the literal second they get bored. "Ok can we do adventure stuff now?", like character and world building isn't a bigger part of this than how much damage you do on an axe swing.
  12. The same way reviews of Destiny or any other loot-cycle multiplayer RPG would work, I would imagine.

    SUPER HOT SUPER HOT
  14. Please tip your postmate

This thread has gotten almost aggressively unhealthy really quickly. There are lots of people here with firsthand personal experience striking out on finding jobs. There is no such thing as "just" or "only" when it comes to life and job situations.
  15. Please tip your postmate

Job setups where tipping is an integral part of your income structure suck. I feel like we're in the general orbit of agreement about that? One of the messages that gets broadcasted when people say "tipping is bad" is the followup "so don't tip". This is horrible, and my sentiment is communicated in the thread title. Please tip! Trying to erode the structure in this way doesn't do anything except fuck over the person who is working with the understood expectation that their wage is funded through your gratuity. We need to find a better way to figure this out than scuttling the service industry workforce and losing the trees for the forest. Boycotting services that operate this way is one way to protest, but there are likely better still.
  16. XCOM 2

I disagree with Tom somewhat. I thought I was hitting that smooth curve, because the way I was approaching story and balancing research I got two armor upgrades before the aliens got two "upgrades" from their previous difficulty. I thought I was about to punch cruise control, and then the game started throwing more and harder enemies before I finished all my weapons research. I am behind on psi soldiers, so I don't have anything to compensate in other ways. My ladies all look cool as hell, but I feel like I'm actually in a power trough right now. Even though they're all combat encounters, I feel like I'm "brute forcing" my way through fights as opposed to having clean solutions, and I know there are even harder enemies still lurking out there. Maybe when I finish the game I'll feel differently, but it's not just an extended victory lap at this point.

I don't think I said, but meant to, that I love it from a storytelling perspective. I would probably be desperately frustrated if I was a player in his adventure. I need that room to breathe.
  18. Nick. Nick Nick Nick Nick Nick Nick Nick Nick Nick. It's not a suicide note. It's just an incredibly insane ghost monologue about his true inner feelings after he died. You also missed (or just didn't mention) the fact that right before he died he was trying to blackmail you.
  19. Idle Cook Club - Veggie Feeds-me: My Body Is Ready

    That looks delicious, well done.
  20. Other podcasts

I'm with you, but that's probably not a podcast I could get my girlfriend to listen to with me. This is a silly thing occasionally punctuated by dice rolls to see if pants fall down. Thank you for bringing it to my attention, I might check it out at some point! Definitely what I'm in it for right now is Griffin's Goofers with additional McElroy backup.

The whole Mexican food thing is fucking hilarious. The concept of what's essentially a tortilla is as old as farming and cooking, it's pure storytelling hilarity. I don't disagree with you that being led down rails isn't the most funnerest way to roleplay, but at the same time Justin (to the point I am in the podcast) definitely is not in this for the flavor and is playing sort of like a puzzle game. "Ok I'm already there. Can we get to adventuring now?" Some of that is probably deference to him and streamlining the show for podcast form, because Griffin is certainly capable of improvising right off the dome.

Oh my goodness. I'm glad someone else asked about this relatively recently. In the last two weeks or so I have fallen down a McElroy hole extremely hard. I cannot stop listening to the Adventure Zone. It's made me laugh to the point of tears, and desperately wish I had the time to actually participate in any sort of RPG. It's so, so good.

Others have chimed in, but this is correct in my mind. This is how I address it. My feelings are pretty well known about Uber, though (see below for how I feel about Uber!). My understanding is it's less of a wage gap specifically, and more that Uber has presented a completely opaque front where you click the little button and the might-as-well-be-a-robot picks you up and then puts you where the second pin in the map is and then the money is magicked from you to them. Introducing a step where the drivers are allowed to talk about tipping breaks their smooth business model, which just happens to be a business model that doesn't give a FUCK about the person actually providing you the service.
