  1. The Idle Book Club 9: Summer Reads

Just John Le Car? Because that's how I've been pronouncing it in my brain since I read the books.
  2. Rogue Legacy

Use your magic! Spam it! Archmage gets mana back on kill! You could have basically walked through all those areas with fire shield on and just jumped around and everyone would have died. It doesn't look like you have much in the way of +damage either.
  3. LoL (League of Legends (Lords))

I think he's going to be a really high skill cap carry. Think Vayne but more Vayne. A passive that's only useful in auto attack range, high mobility, an ult that you can potentially ruin for yourself really easily. I also think if Sword of the Occult interacts with his ultimate it's going to be hilarious.
  4. Sean, I think it is important to clarify that even if it was not the 90's Woodstock, one would never want to be Fred Durst on any occasion.
  5. http://www.giantbomb.com/videos/unprofessional-fridays-020113/2300-7008/ I don't know if this is behind the subscriber wall or not, but at about 1hr 37 minutes Vinny plays Surgeon SImulator. It was the version made after a game jam this year, before it was released on Steam.

I loved the Sean-Chris fantastically enthusiastic high five upon completion.

https://www.dropbox.com/s/lswxvagz5wg5oat/Realest%20Summerjams.txt Someone made a list of the summer jams. It would be tough to quickly compile a youtube playlist, because it's over 400 songs.

It's pretty honestly the biggest gaming news this month in North America. Plus, people writing the articles were at the very least his professional contemporaries. They were either influenced by him (a decade+ is a long time in games coverage), worked along side him, or were personally acquainted with him/friends.

Now I'm doubly excited to listen to this cast! I love Dirk Gently, and I very recently finished Tinker, Tailor as the first le Carre novel I've read. I will be interested in hearing your perspective on reading order, because that was the very next book I was thinking about reading from him.

It has to be doubly hard because last week was the anniversary of his father passing away, if not the same day. The grief from one thing bounces right back on to the other. :[

THE REALEST SUMMERJAMS Think of Ryan when you listen to possibly the best collection of Summertime music you can compile.

He was on his honeymoon. :[ That dude was kind of a dick to people on Twitter, he was snarky, and he played video games with the controller right next to his mic so they made really loud noises on the recording. And this sucks so much. What a cool, enthusiastic guy. He and Jeff were the heart and soul of Giant Bomb. I can't imagine what his wife must be feeling. I literally cannot fathom the emotions. When I first heard about it I thought it wasn't real. I don't have any more words but this probably deserves more. He'd deny it but he exerted change on the video game industry. Thanks, Ryan.
  13. Rogue Legacy

Anyone gotten through to NG+ yet? I'm stuck on the last boss, and it's more fun to try and find as many treasure chests as possible than it is to throw progeny to the meat grinder. Any tips on how you got through would be welcome.
  14. Dota Today 5: With Brad Bot Shoemaker

That's pretty unfortunate, because I probably won't. Minimal UI is a pretty big deal for me.
  15. Dota Today 5: With Brad Bot Shoemaker

Realized something that was subconsciously bothering me - everything on the top and bottom of the screen is taking up a gigantic amount of real estate and I keep clicking on borders and shit. How do I 1) make the UI way, WAY smaller and 2) How do I get everyone's portraits out of the top of the screen? Things I have lots of: horizontal real estate, while things modern monitors have way less of is vertical real estate.
  16. Dota Today 5: With Brad Bot Shoemaker

The "mid against AI" mode is boring as hell. I played against... Witch Doctor? And I don't even know what that guy does because I just murdered him 10 times and then it was over.
  17. Rogue Legacy

Being gay changes the gender of the statues you smash for health and mana. It has no other effect (similar to real life)
  18. Dota Today 5: With Brad Bot Shoemaker

They did add more tutorials. For the "not player" demographic, I highly recommend them. I'm afraid they might teach some bad habits, but they do teach some important and useful things as well.
  19. Rogue Legacy

Going to throw my weight behind the idea that you should play this video game. There's a LENGTHY demo available if you want to try it out - It basically locks the unlockable class trees down but in the entire evening I put into it I didn't hit a limit in the castle. Games I have not played for an extended amount of time: the binding of isaac, rogue, super meatboy, most roguelikes. This plays a lot like a cheerful castlevania except the castle randomizes every time you die (so, every 2 minutes or so ). The soundtrack is also awesome. Listenable and buyable here: http://tettixashellinthepit.bandcamp.com/album/rogue-legacy-ost I think Narwhal is my favorite song thus far. It somehow manages to combine a wistful reminder of Torchlight with like... Red Alert's Hell March?
  20. Saturday Morning Streams

I lock the castle to go Boss huntin'. Castle expansion is cool to unlock the classes, but I definitely think I have spread my points too thin for the stage I've reached. I also watched a dude streaming yesterday who was level 330 and was on New Game +++ and then he beat it and it was stupid nuts. Scuttlebutt is you can go to New Game +9, which is just crazy. PS USE YOUR MAGIC.
  21. Saturday Morning Streams

Oh sweet, your stream showed me they added Rogue Legacy onto the games list, so I don't have to stream using Rogue Warrior as the game selection! It was also entertaining to hear Nick say "And now I'm stuck standing next to this fountain that looks like a gear for some reason" and then immediately be shown that it was a giant gear. Re: portals - the way I've beaten the first two bosses so far is when I decide I want to try to kill them I lock the castle down and then warp to the Boss Door. You get a big chunk of rewards even at 70% gold plus items and permanent stats. Then when you're done flailing on the boss you just don't lock the castle (it's a choice every new heir) and continue per usual.
  22. Dota Today 5: With Brad Bot Shoemaker

Playing against bots is boring, though. If I wanted to play, why would I abandon? I tried to play... Nature's Prophet, maybe? And there didn't appear to be any guides or items. So I quit immediately (out of an all-ai game) (I don't find this to be hypocritical compared to what I said 3 sentences ago because I'd have not done it with people). Knowing how to choose the right one is precisely the reason I asked the question. I am familiar with enough lords to know which ones to avoid in terms of introductions to the game, and at the same time kind of have complete disregard for caring about that because if the team has 3 hard carries no one's going to know anyway.
  23. Road to Hell: Retribution

I highly recommend watching as much of the Giant Bomb quick look as you can stand. Bear in mind, not an actual short video. http://www.giantbomb.com/videos/quick-look-ride-to-hell-retribution/2300-7649/
  24. Discworld

The Fifth Elephant is awesome and one of the books I've read multiple times based on this process for reading: Acquire need to read a book -> See familiar book on top of pile -> Read that book. It's one of the more complicated books, plotwise. There's a lot going on.
  25. Dota Today 5: With Brad Bot Shoemaker

The real issue is that movement is probably too fluid between divisions 2-4 and clamped in 1 & 5. They could fix the issue by NOT awarding 20+ IP when you're in Silver/Gold/Talc 3, rather than giving you 25-30 IP and then 4 when you hit division I. In other words, when you were in Silver II you probably could have stood to be in Silver III. So, League of Legends was super laggy last night to the point that I couldn't play it, and it made me load up d... d.. Dota. Changing the item hotkeys to the bottom row of the keyboard is a huge deal. If I'm just going to jump in and play, how should I do it? I'm thinking I'm just going to random heroes, because I cannot imagine that "team composition" is going to matter for the people who have played 3 games. Do all the lords have guides written for them? That seems extremely key in getting me to go back to the dotes. I played Sand King in a bot game. I also played Lifestealer jungle in a "play with bots game"/ That seemed... completely useless? My bots went like 35-0 and killed Roshan and pushed every lane largely without my input. Comfortable enough with the controls now that I could probably jump into a people game with people.
