  1. Gone Home from The Fullbright Company

Did you use a reference for that lion? It has a really cool medieval/mesoamerican vibe to it that I can't put my finger on.
  2. Gone Home from The Fullbright Company

This post is just to not let you have the last word. I am looking forward to this ghost house game more and more. I swear I've seen that gargoyle/lion head somwhere before, it's driving me nuts.
  3. Wolf Hall by Hilary Mantel

I've been reading it as the first act of three all along, and being a fantasy reader I have no issue with fat trilogies, so while I agree with your point, it's not one that bothers me.
  4. Wolf Hall by Hilary Mantel

For me, the plot was basically the rise of Thomas Cromwell. He escapes his abusive father, leaves the shadow of his patron, meets a great challenge in the Anne/Henry situation, and finishes by seeing one of his greatest opponents dead. This is made especially spicy knowing that there's two books left, and there's nowhere to go but down. I came away with the opposite impression and found it amusing how well the book encapsulated a real person's life in a narrative arc.
  5. The ______ of Video Games

The Tao of Video Games, by Winnie the Pooh.
  6. Dota Today 2: The Lord's Pitch

I think if I had been at a point in my life where I didn't mind the extra 20 minutes that a Dota match tends to take at my level (sucky) over a League one, I could see myself getting sucked into Dota over League. Whenever I try dotes I can feel the extra complexity tugging at my nerd hindbrain.
  7. Life

Let me know if you want an invite, I've got several spare. May not even be needed though, I've heard that it only takes a couple of hours after putting your email into their sign-up thingy. Only took a day for me.
  8. Life

If you've got a not-too-old Android phone, Ingress is a great excuse to get out and about. That could help with motivation.
  9. I Had A Random Thought...

Haha, the Q and As are amazing.
  10. Dota Today 2: The Lord's Pitch

And I've played games of Dota where someone goes 'gg' and just dicks around in the jungle. I've also had amazing comeback games in League and won 4v5s. It's all just so anecdotal. Only Riot and Valve really have the data to say anything meaningful about this in my opinion. As for me, I prefer to have a functional method to prevent the game from wasting more of my time than it already does when a game is clearly over. The weird game theory method (do I defect, stay in the game and ensure my allies get abandons?) of Dota 2 is just weird if you ask me.
  11. Permadeath

Well, I've suddenly decided not to be hardcore about this thread. Good luck.
  12. Permadeath

I don't know about Dwarf Fortress but Dungeons of Dreadmor has a final boss on the bottom floor. It's definitely not all random.
  13. Permadeath

The Souls game are for the hardcore in one sense only: they are for people who feel the urge to improve when they fail. That is their main parallel with roguelikes. The lovely aesthetics and amazing subtle worldbuilding don't hurt either of course but you won't get to see much of them unless you are willing to get better.
  14. Permadeath

Demon/Dark souls are the immediate compromise that springs to mind. Death has a potential real cost but you get one do-over, and you never actually lose anything meaningful.
  15. Permadeath

Your position is clear, and undoubtedly you are on the side of the majority (though possibly not within this community). on the other hand, there's also a lot of people who feel the opposite way. Is there something you'd like to get out of this thread? You don't seem interested in finding out why people like permadeath.
  16. Permadeath

On the contrary, the presence of real, actual risk is the only thing that renders meaning to actions.
  17. Dota Today 2: The Lord's Pitch

It's 20m which is for anyone with experience in the vast majority of cases enough time to tell whether you have a chance.
  18. Steam Greenlight

i.e. no giant witch tits or amazon butts
  19. Steam Trading Card

I love the idea of a hansom with his face on it. Pulled by a Bioshock Infinite robo-horse.
  20. Movie/TV recommendations

Sleeper is my favourite Allen movie. The giant fruit & veg never cease to crack me up. The Polish knock-off Seksmisja is also amazing.
  21. Mirror's Edge 2. I'm not even fucking joking.

How is this even something to argue about, sheesh. I'm just saying I don't like it.
  22. I Had A Random Thought...

Your job is not your life, hopefully.
  23. Vic Davis's Occult Chronicles is spoo-oo-ooky!

I made the mistake of booting the beta and trying to get anywhere without reading the quickstart guide. I should have known better from his previous game. Opaque doesn't even begin to cover it. That said, I can see/smell all sorts of interesting stuff lurking below the surface that I can't wait to get my teeth into. It's looking good.
  24. Awesomenauts

Fired this up on a whim, and this is wayyyyy more low-intensity than the other LoMas. Very relaxed, charming graphics and amusing hero design. That said, given that I don't like platforming, it's not really for me.
  25. Mirror's Edge 2. I'm not even fucking joking.

Ah yeah, I thought that was different. The promo image is the one that annoys me.
