She's the boss in Germany right now!
  2. Saturday Morning Streams

I hear the grenade a comin' It's rolling down the hill And I ain't seen the god-rays since I don't know when, I'm stuck in shitty Africa, and time keeps draggin' on But that grenade keeps a rollin' on down 'til my buddy's gone.. When I was just a baby my mama told me. Son, Always be a good boy, don't ever play with guns. But Nick shot a man for Remo just to watch him die When I hear that sax a-blowing, I hang my head and cry..

    Tycho's right, you know.
  5. Luckily in modern computers unseating heatsinks and the like is pretty trivial. White paste definitely points towards the budget thermal paste falling apart, probably due to some shocks.
  6. When this happened to me it turned out that the thermic paste between the cpu and the cooling element had decayed/crumbled. Replacing it with some 'arctic silver' fixed things.

  8. To the Moon

Well I did just that and got nothing so I'm guessing you're misinformed or there's something weird going on.
  9. To the Moon

People were saying that this game is the closest thing to Dear Esther and Gone Home so given that it's just 2 euro on steam right now I picked it up and played through it - what an interesting experience! I found the graphics to be a huge turn-off at first, but there's so many cool touches showing what a labour of love this is that I was soon won over. Similarly, the controls could be very irritating at times (clunky and wonky with the mouse anyway). Some spoilery ramblings: Definitely worth playing, with some great high notes.
  10. The best part is that Fallout 3 will 'lose' all your saves if you later decide to start using GFWL because that changes where it looks for saved games.
  11. Dragon's Crown: Gaze past the giant witch tits

I came here to post that precise link. What a great review. I may not agree with all of it, but it's well-written and -argued. Picked it up from Tom Chick.
  12. Idle Thumbs 117: Sir! Sir!

I have to say it was an incredibly surreal experience to hear Chris say 'Aardwolf' - that MUD was responsible for me basically wasting almost an entire year (1996/7) of my university studies, along with IRC.
  13. The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)

    Gosh, what a find. Thanks!
  14. That's where it becomes more of an ethical question which tend to politicise things; hence the attempts to pre-empt that by removing the (incorrect) assumption that it's more effective.
  15. Boy, toblix really cocked that one up.
  16. The 'sometimes' is so much lower than its public perception that it's staggering
  17. The torture discussion as applied to information-gathering is always baffling to me in that there is such overwhelming evidence that the reliability of information retrieved from torture is so low that its proponents simply must have either a secondary agenda (ie. revenge, terror), or simply be unaware of the evidence. Ethics doesn't even enter into it: http://link.springer.com/content/pdf/10.1007/s11948-004-0011-y.pdf
  18. Oh man your steamurl is the best. I spent so many hours messing around trying to get it to say dumb things.
  19. Dishonored does make me feel bad for killing dudes by virtue of its horrific death animations. I cannot perform that sort of violence in a game and feel good about myself.
  20. Gone Home from The Fullbright Company

I had exactly the same point of being stuck tanukitsune - somehow the layout in that part of the house is a bit confusing it seems.
