Did we ever find out what the giant email was? If it's mine and it's too long to read I can just post it.
-
No, but come on man you do this every time. If you don't want to see a conversation through why get involved?

The idea "there's things that are worse so don't point out this less-bad thing as still being bad" is not really productive. That time already? Goodness.

Plot-critical males I can remember: - the father (damseled) - the brothers (protagonists + heroic sacrifice) - the medic (competent but timid) - the troll (picked-on, strong but timid) Plot-critical females: - the mother (fridged) - the spider (sacrificial maiden rescue plus dark temptress double-whammy) - the troll wife (damseled) Basically nobody comes out looking good. The thing is though that in the broader framework of consistently assigning negative/weak roles to women, it is a good thing to NOT do so, rather than try to compensate by spreading the negativity out to the other gender. The pendulum needs to be actively pushed the other way if there's to be any hope of ever achieving balance.

The Silent Storm series is my favourite of the squad-based tactical turnbased games outside of Xcom.

That is super-slick looking! I'd be very happy if the controls were a bit less floaty though (less inertia I guess).

That link got me to finally chip in to her Patreon, so thanks. -

I've been on the hype train for this since it was announced. Benelux gamedev is doing great lately!

I think you'd miss a lot of interesting cross-fertilisation by having everything split up into separate threads in a subforum. The amateur thread is awesome precisely because there's so many different things going on. I'd vote for keeping things contained to a large thread or two until people actually complain about the volume, which I don't think is going to happen soon.

I found Ocean to be a bit formulaic to be honest, but I might just have read too much Gaiman by now.

^^^ Java and Javascript have basically nothing in common except being able to run "easily" on most OSes. They're fucking awesome for 3D stuff. But yeah, shit's weird. Next thing you know you're all Hamiltonian all up ins.

Thanks to Argobot's recommendation I picked up Alice Munro's Selected Stories and holy crap that is some amazing writing! I don't think I've ever read something that has managed to transport me into a female perspective so well. Such true writing, for lack of a better word.

The Elder Scrolls Online free-to-play betting pool!
osmosisch replied to Niyeaux's topic in Idle Banter
I quite enjoyed faffing about in the game but i mainly just made me want to play it offline without queues and other people. Definitely gave me the itch to install Skyrim again though. -
It's not absolutely true but it's definitely also not absolutely untrue. It depends very strongly on the person and the job/field.

Any enemies that can have nonstandard abilities have a brightly coloured outline, so in general that sort of thing shouldn't be surprising after the first couple of times. The power of enemies does fluctuate wildly, that's one of the reasons I like the lives system - it puts the game at the perfect tension level for me.

I found this to be a cool story tangentially related to the subject at hand: http://www.magicalwasteland.com/mw/2014/1/16/the-moisturizing-soap-game-jam.html

ToME isn't really designed or balanced around roguelike (ie. one life) mode. I wouldn't recommend it unless you get bored.

OoookaY.

It's a great system, there's just better ones but nobody knew until Valve showed that they exist.

Idle Tongues (food before your mind goes elsewhere)

Balsamic vinegar plus olive oil, squeezed garlic, rosemary and thyme is my go-to. For stuff like coleslaw I use a yogurt/mayonnaise mixture. -
Well, which one is it?

If your goal is to make stuff with friends, find the friends first and then figure out what you want to make with them rather than the other way around. I'd also like to warn from personal experience that greatly enjoying games and playing/thinking about them a lot is a prerequisite for being able to make good games, but not an indicator that you'll be able to, or even enjoy doing so.
