  1. Amateur Game Making Night

It can't be said enough: almost anything that's technically interesting boils down to math. I am shit at it and never enjoyed my match classes/courses but I can still appreciate this fact and it's helped me well along the years.
  2. Life

There's always an open invitation for boardgames every last sunday of the month at my place
  3. I loved that playthrough. She's so good! It's amazing how well she deals with surprises and difficult situations. The part in Earthen Peak drove me nuts though. She came so close to burning the bloody windmill.

    Wangs are serious business though.
  5. Transistor

Beat this after getting it in the Steam sale. I adored the graphics and sound/music but the gameplay and story did not grab me very much. I think my core issue with the gameplay is that I didn't like having the periods of downtime where I basically had to run around like a headless chicken waiting for turn() to recharge. I'd rather they had gone pure turnbased but I can understand why they didn't. Just, well, that didn't suit me. The ending basically came out of nowhere for me, especially given that the relationship between Red and the Transistor is left so understated.
  6. Gods Will Be Watching

Man, I could not watch that trailer past the first torture bit. Ugh, not my cup of tea.
  7. Agility also governs item use speed which can be a pretty big boon.
  8. Wow, glad to hear you got it in time Twig. I'd still recommend framelocking DS2 for what it's worth, halberds and the like are not much fun to use otherwise. I also found it helped a bit with the feel of dodging just being able to rely on a fixed framerate, but that could be placebo effect.

Hi Jay, thanks for writing that story. I followed your threads and kickstarters so it's very cool to see you get so far. Fingers crossed! For those interested, there's also a goldmine post for dropsy's latest adventure: http://www.somethingawful.com/comedy-goldmine/dropsy-clown-game/1/
  10. You could always try googling the model/make of your router plus some terms like 'hack' or 'backdoor' to see whether there's commonly-known exploits, and possibly fixes. Besides that, yes, checking connected devices is the first and easiest step just to check what's using the device.
  11. Feminism

I think disappointment is an appropriate response in this case, and there's nothing wrong with expressing it.
  12. Feminism

Shockingly as a European I'm on the far left of that poll
  13. Quitter's Club: Don't be ashamed to quit the game.

I've heard very good things about The Hunter https://www.thehunter.com/landing?src=
  14. At the moment I would recommend locking the framerate to 30 instead, because otherwise your weapons' durability will degrade crazy fast due to a bug.
  15. Most people who played the first two games a lot tend to feel somewhat let down by 2. The reasons vary though.
  16. General Video Game Deals Thread

It's just symptomatic of this community, where people tend to put at least some effort into explaining their opinions. Seems a good thing to me.
  17. Dune

Gosh, that's wonderful. Thanks for posting it.
  18. General Video Game Deals Thread

I found the actual combat to get somewhat samey but the Oregon Trail part is really nice.

Get dsFix: http://blog.metaclassofnil.com/?tag=dsfixe: woops, should have refreshed.
  21. Dark Souls(Demon's Souls successor)

Every single boss in the Izalith branch really. Firesage is the best of the bunch and even there the explosions have some bullshit to them plus it's dumb that it does magic rather than fire damage. The healthbar on Gaping dragon is way too long for such a dull fight. Capra isn't unfair so much as unfun because the fight is basically decided by whether you get up the stairs or not and the rest is busywork. All of this is making me sound more negative than I really am about them though! It's a terrible thing about this kind of comparison and I regret entering into it because it's making 1 feel a bit tarnished in my mind which I'm not sure it deserves. I guess on reflection unfair isn't precisely the word I was looking for. I can't think of something better though. Anyway, I absolutely adore Dark Souls 1, it's one of my favourite games of all time. But right now, if I feel the need to play some Souls, I'm firing up 2 without a moment's hesitation. I love the shaded woods, love the shrine of Amana, love all the dragon areas... and there's definitely enough lore in the game for me to appreciate at least as much as I did 1 (the theme of 'never knowning why' is just so fitting for a computer game...) and that's even before the DLC. The ultimate point probably is that they're both amazing games but only one can be your first, and that for many people higher peaks and deeper valleys overall make for a more compelling experience. I prefer my edges slightly more sanded-down though.
  22. Dark Souls(Demon's Souls successor)

Things I prefer in 2 - fairer bosses except one optional one - more finished, polished feel - more balanced stat system - unbelievably improved multiplayer - no dickwraiths in ng - at least as many beautiful, memorable areas - more sensible weapon upgrade/material system I acknowledge that some of the cohesiveness and wonder of v1 has not made or into the sequel. The upside is a more playable experience. A lot of this is obviously taste, but I think a lot of people's complaints are caused by it not being their first souls game.
  23. Dark Souls(Demon's Souls successor)

I think DS2 is also superior in several ways. For me it's a wash, leaning towards 2.
  24. Books, books, books...

Haha, i had the exact same experience with Kafka by the shore.
  25. That's if you're one of the exalted Zen masters of Dark Souls that is capable of not killing every single enemy whenever they meet them though (I am not one of them. kill all things).
