  1. I never get lag except for some stutter when the map's just loading in.
  2. Me da's a scot and Cara's accent definitely made me pause for a second trying to figure out what was up. It's sort of mutated. Not annoying at all though to me.
  3. I think Flamelurker and Artorias are the bosses I remember enjoying the fight the most from the Souls games. Agressive foes that are fair and can be managed. Sif is one of the nicest boss designs, but the camera makes it really annoying. O&S has been hyped so much I can't really have my opinion about it anymore. It just is. The Royal Rat Vanguard probably surprised me the most as a boss. I think the biggest feeling of awe I got was from Storm King. I'm not far enough into Bloodborne to feel my opinions are secure yet. I've only really enjoyed Gascoigne so far.

I think any time you follow a semicolon with a comma, something has gone wrong. But congratulations on starting I'm getting pleasant flashbacks to writing my thesis' introduction and discussion, the only academic writing I'd done by then that wasn't subject to tons of feedback loops (the main chapters are all papers with co-authors). It felt great to just sit down and write and revise by myself for a bit, and I'm still pretty happy with the result.
  5. You mean the Abyss content in Dark Souls 1? That does indeed take you back to when things are in the process of falling apart; Gwyn's greatest knight has been corrupted and a kingdom is falling into the abyss. Bloodborne does feel similar, yes. Though of course it's so much larger it's hard to compare directly. One thing that struck me while I was thinking about the victorian werewolves thing, is that the thing that does a lot to defuse the expected bullshit that comes with that combo is that there's no upper-class British accent to be found. Given From's love for British/European accents, I'm sure this is no accident. Nothing would have killed the mood faster for me than some upper class twit going "I say old chap, werewolves eh? wot wot." Instead we get a right proper Mancunian hunter of hunters for example.
  6. I'm only about a third into Bloodborne but so far it's really managed to win me over despite my reservations (I love shields, and the victorian thing felt a bit over the top). The atmosphere became worshipful and horrible at the same time in a way I find very touching. I'd also say that while the Souls games are about worlds that are post-fall, so far Bloodborne feels more like a game that's still mid-destruction which is a very interesting change.
  7. Android Games

I'm ultra-addicted to Star Realms right now.
  8. Feminism

Even worse to me, is that it's not even from the point of view of what I believe most men would want in a vacuum, but what men are supposed to want in the culture, which makes it self-reinforcingly awful.
  9. I Had a Random Thought (About Video Games)

Having to do weird claw-hand to be able to both run and aim the camera sucks though. A proper targeting control scheme makes kb/m much more comfortable for me.
  10. Non-video games

I believe the Memoir system is simply that good because I hate wargames in general but love their system, especially the Battlelore implementation.
  11. When Chris said 'imgur' when talking about meme culture it sounded so disgusted and disdainful to me I immediately thought of chris's classic wikipedia image. Good times. Also some great finger-snappin' goodness this ep.
  12. I'm not even remotely fluent, but: For the first link I don't see anything about data access in the information page, and it seems the map data is generated as images by a cgi-bin gate so no clue how to get underlying data (if at all possible) the second link appears to work similarly. Further, the terms of use there explicitly state that the data is not free to use for unregistered users. I did find a catalog that includes downloadable data on the second site: http://www.pcn.minambiente.it/viewer/ Hope this helps.
  13. Far Cry 2

    I love the music.
  14. Broken Age - Double Fine Adventure!

It's not evocative but it's descriptive on quite a few levels, so I think it fits. Full Throttle isn't better if you ask me. Grim Fandango is just inspired.
  15. What the actual fuck. This blew my mind. I'm almost angry enough to return the PS4. (un)fortunately the game's good enough to keep me playing, but goddamn. One of the few correct decisions of the PS3 out the window. Oh well, at least I won't get invaded.
  16. Life

My parents currently take care of our children one day a week, so there's quite a bit of contact. I can talk to my mom pretty well though I don't think our relationship ever completely recovered from the embarassment/distance puberty created. My stepdad is an introverted weirdo (like me) so while I can relate to him quite well we don't talk that much. My dad took a hike when I was two so there's not much there.

Huge congrats man, it's amazing when you manage to get your life paths to line up like that.
  18. I believe the most common usage is Weedlord Bonerhitler.
  19. As a Dutchie I find this whole kerfuffle baffling. And Danielle's anecdote hilarious.
  20. I Had A Random Thought...

We currently don't have a car. Until this autumn we lived in the city centre and had absolutely no reason to own one. Now we live outside of town a bit more, and have our own house it's becoming more tempting. Things like replacing roof tiles, collecting firewood for the woodstove etc. are so much less convenient with the cargo bike. Still, we've been fine so far borrowing friends' or parents' cars. I'm very happy to have a bicycle commute again, I was getting fat and slothful from living 500m from work. Now I get to ride my bike half an hour every morning and evening which is so much better. Screw you, gym membership. Basically I kind of like the mechanics of driving, but knowing it's statistically pretty much the most dangerous activity I'm likely to engage in really stresses me out. Combine that with the boredom of long trips and it's just not good for the ol' mental health. I didn't know it was possible to be both bored and stressed at the same time until I started driving.
  21. Basically not putting this out on PC is a crime. I'm going to contact a solicitor.
