Bloodborne (Dark Souls 2 successor (Dark Souls successor (Demon's Souls successor)))
osmosisch replied to melmer's topic in Video Gaming
I'm pretty happy with the chalice dungeons because I love the combat in these games, and love roguelikes which the chalices emulate pretty well. If the promised load-time patch is effective I anticipate I'll be noodling around in there a lot. I'm not going to pay even more money for online stuff and I'm very happy not being invaded so the pvp aspect doesn't bother me. -

Same, except a lingering feeling of disappointment. -
The cosystem lock-in is actually the reason I'd never even consider buying a mac, I find it stifling. I had an iphone once and never again.

I think most people would interpret stronger as better (just ask Daft Punk) so that's an important clarification to make.

The Business Side of Video (Space) Games EXCLUSIVELY ON IDLE THUMBS

The amount of hours one works should not directly affect the cost of development in the sense that most people who continuously work more than 40 hours tend to have drastically lower actual productivity. -

I took him down in 2 goes with the kirkhammer, though admittedly I was like level 90 at the time. Same for the Rom fight. TOR and Ebrietas are the ones that give me the most trouble. -
I'm sorry but I have trouble believing that being bullied actually made you stronger. I'm willing to believe that you internalised this message to make the experience less awful though. And I believe you're strong people in may ways. But to my knowledge the vast majority of demonstrated bullying effects are extremely negative. Stuff like this. As far as I'm concerned the only thing cruelty teaches is how to be cruel.

Yeah, I hope I'm not sounding judgemental, rather puzzled. For what it's worth I'm less and less comfortable with shooting dudes as well, but hey.

I can't really put my finger on it but something about this thread creeps me the heck out. Maybe it's because I'm so sensitive to objectification now that even seeing it applied to essentially objects makes me nervous. Could be s reflection on the strength of the character writing. Something about the harem aspect of Bioware games has always made me uncomfortable, and seeing this thread made it even worse. (oh, and Liara all the way)

Dark Souls 2 (Dark Souls successor (Demon's Souls successor))

The Souls game for me definitely tickle a similar part of my brain as roguelikes do. Every time you die, your world is mostly reset, and you get to try again. The realtime combat is an obvious difference, but I got used to it. They're also similar to Nethack and ADoM specifically in that you really need to look some stuff up on wikis if you want to see everything. Things like NPC quests etc. are opaque by design and the idea that they would be mysterious and only solved by collaborative effort by the community was part of the Souls idea from the start.- 1284 replies

Being from the north Netherlands I'm no stranger to flatenss, but holy moly the emptiness is just surreal. Where I grew up (400-head vilalge) I could see the church tower of neighbourign villages in every directions, and clumps of trees around the farmhouses everywhere. example pictures

The L2 on Kirkhammer hammer-mode carried me through like 80% of the game, it's ridiculously good. -

Holy Moly was almost Ancient Dragon levels of unenjoyable for me. Took like twenty tries, had to go farm for vials several times. At least she's down now. -
My two-year-old girl has the most fun with: - puzzles with big pieces - clay - fingerpaint (the parents might hate you) - DUPLO I veto any pink shit. They will get that once they ask for it themselves. The cultural indoctrination ends at my doorstep.

It's doing Lego's job for them (at personal cost, no less), what on earth is there to complain about?

For what it's worth, I found Spyrium to be wayyyyy too complex interaction-wise for the amount of fun it delivered.

So this just came out, catching me at least by surprise: an attempt by someone to copy the Souls formula. There's no character creation (you play as bald angryman), and it's got characters and cutscenes, but a lot of Souls' weighty, dangerous-feeling combat. Here's a video showing it off a bit: I couldn't resist picking it up, and have had a cracking good time so far. It's not as polished as Souls (crashes a decent amount for me), but it's got a lot more fancy graphics, that's good right? Some tips: - turn off the nvidia physx whatchamacallit in the advanced settings, it only serves to cause lag and adds nothing. - to deal with shield dudes, use a charging shield bash, there's no effective guard-break like in Souls that I could find - there's an extra potion flask (estus shard/bottle) in the tutorial area - the 'shelter' miracle in the cleric tree actually also does a heal over time, mostly obviating the need to use your healing potions outside of emergencies. Playing paladin makes the game rather easy so far. Anyway, it's serving very well to scratch my Souls itch until Bloodborne comes out and I can borrow someone's PS4.

Hearthstone: Because what Magic really needed was F2P mechanics
osmosisch replied to Problem Machine's topic in Video Gaming
Yeah, I got most of my collection of base set cards by playing arena infinitely. The prospect of having to do that again with the new set is kind of daunting. The game feels a lot less approachable now to me because of that. The insane pricing on the single player adventures doesn't help either. -

Dark Souls 2 (Dark Souls successor (Demon's Souls successor))

The Kalameet fight was poisoned for me by how hard the tail is to get. It's cool besides that in every respect. I think the Giant bosses in DS2 are also amazing just because of the story arc to them; on revisiting The Last Giant you finally realise why he goes berserk the moment he sees you.- 1284 replies
