  1. Yeah I ended up figuring it out by going to the blog and seeing that the animation post was posted by "James," which was more or less conclusive. Your way is good too though.
  2. Oh hey, I kind of know that guy. If it's the same guy. How do you know that's the guy doing the Firewatch animations?
  3. Who Registered http://www.dota.today/?

    Tremendous.
  4. Far Cry 4: A grenade rolls down everest

My site's not making enough money to buy the Idle Thumbs forums. Yet. I like this place because on the other forums I post on I have to be the one to bring up the whole "oh gee Far Cry is racist again, I guess this is just the racism franchise now" thing and it gets tiring. Meanwhile over here I can just ignore the thread for a while and people are already doing my job for me. It's nice to know I'm not the only one in the world who thinks it's a little silly that UbiSoft just happen to keep being super racist.
  5. Idle Innovation/Speculation/Masturbation

BioShock was based on design principles from far more than five years ago. It was a pared down ripoff of System Shock. That's why Shock is in the name! And that shit goes back to Ultima Underworld. If BioShock is your idea of innovation you need to spend more time on freeindiegam.es - there's more innovation in any given week of posts on that site than there is in most of AAA gaming in this past decade.
  6. In more than one way this episode is the Pet Sounds of Idle Thumbs.
  7. Feminism

Thanks for the link about the Connecticut interview story. I sent it to my students and told them to read it because it matches up pretty well with what they are reading for class right now.
  8. "I'm not affiliated with the game," says the poster, a moment before revealing his affiliation with the game.
  9. The threat of Big Dog

This is literally what Jake Rodkin sees when he has a nightmare:
  10. I Had A Random Thought...

Edward Norton, Pyotr Ilych Tchaikovsky, and Anton Chekhov all look the same.
  11. Movie/TV recommendations

Gotham seems like "Batman Babies" or something. Meet all the famous Batman characters! When they were kids! I'm glad to see Donal Logue has a job though. Terriers is one of my favorite shows and it died because people only watch shitty TV.
  12. Feminism

Folks, people, you all, everyone, everybody, all of you.
  13. Idle Thumbs 157: Molymoto

This was in the context of the Goldfish fictional universe, though, not real life.
  14. Idle Thumbs 157: Molymoto

"It's not like fish in general are like, happy and have faces. Some of them are just fish, but some of them are, like, Finding Nemos" is the funniest thing I have heard in a long time. And the part where the "EAT AM" discussion kept getting interrupted by the "Video gaaaaaaaaaaames" interstitial thing had me in stitches.
  15. Idle Thumbs 118: A Simple Litter

I had the exact same experience. I think if I were 14 again I'd enjoy it but I'm at the point in my life where if 80% of the game is mediocre 3rd person shooting, and it's a LONG game, I'm not going to bother suffering through it.
  16. Kentucky Route Zero

From what I've heard act 3 is fucking amazing.
  17. Movie/TV recommendations

I don't think it's a very good characterization of science to say that the core of it is the scientific method. If you study how actual scientists produce the actual results that actually get published in actual science journals, you'll notice that many of them don't conform to the "method" of science that we make high schoolers memorize (search #overlyhonestmethods for instance).

Tyson's pretty much an idiot when it comes to anything except telling everyone how amazing science is and how shit everything else is. Listen to this podcast at 20:19 if you want to hear him 1) not understand anything about philosophy, and 2) not let that stop him from saying philosophy is a worthless waste of time that will "mess you up." Tyson thinks maybe there's too much question asking in philosophy, and that we shouldn't concern ourselves with "the meaning of meaning," and that philosophers are distracted by their questions and can't move forwards, whereas the scientist discards these distractions and simply moves forwards and makes progress.
  19. Idle Thumbs 156: The Holo-Violator

Why does that make you feel funny? I'm in Chris' boat - my life is just too busy to say "I am going to sink 40 hours into a game that's going to be rewarding for 20 to 30 of those hours" or something. Games are fucking LONG. I can read great novels in the time I waste in a long game, and I can basically read ALL the great novels in the time it takes to finish a long game. Spelunky, meanwhile, is amazing every day for 15 to 30 minutes or whatever, and it's never going to take much longer.
  20. Baby Animal Gif Emergency Rations
