New York Times Magazine article about Porpentine and Twine.

Even the bonus chat emoticon you get is a lazy reiteration of a stupid trope.

I think most of the strawman/misconceptions about feminism come from the efforts of social conservatives like Phyllis Schlafly to turn feminism into a bad word in order to get the Equal Rights Amendment defeated.

Hey since this thread is up here I can link to Alternative Games Crit, a sweet website that posts cool writing about games: http://altgamescrit.tumblr.com/

Cyberpunk Cop Killah (aka The Last Night)

I mean, congratulations on finding a way to discount an argument even less principled and sensible than what Tim used earlier in this thread, but whatever, here are some links that aren't your least favorite blogging platform: http://geekfeminism.wikia.com/wiki/Tone_argument http://tooyoungforthelivingdead.tumblr.com/tone-policing http://rationalwiki.org/wiki/Tone_argument -
Cyberpunk Cop Killah (aka The Last Night)
TychoCelchuuu replied to singlespace's topic in Video Gaming
And Tim comes across as a clueless bigot! If anything justifies hostility and condescension, it's support for #GamerGate. I've had it up to fucking here with the hatred and vitriol and rape and death threats in the gaming community and I'm never, ever going to give a fucking inch on this, even to people who claim to hate harassment and so on out of one side of their mouth even as they cluelessly parrot bullshit #GamerGate talking points out the other side. If this requires hostility and condescension then whatever. Tim has said stuff like "The rules & morals of the real world do not apply to this virtual space," by which he meant video games, and "I also don't buy the patriarchy stuff." Life's too short to pretend like these are anything other than execrable excuses for the unending bullshit that drove Jenn Frank and Mattie Brice out of the industry and that forces people like Danielle and Anita to deal with eternal harassment. You can heap loads of tone policing on me until the cows come home but it's unlikely to change my mind. Enough's fucking enough, and when the gaming community starts to wake up to this and starts to proclaim "gamers are dead," I'm really uninterested in being cordial to someone who doesn't understand anything about linguistics but who feels confident enough to feel personally attacked by "gamers are dead" articles and who thinks a good response to them is something like "You're acting like you want Newspeak and changing / eradicating words to fit your opinions and establish a new truth, your own truth" and who then in the same post proceeds to unilaterally end the conversation (an ironic move in the context of an argument about how nobody can impact discourse in any meaningful way). I mean come the fuck on. -
Cyberpunk Cop Killah (aka The Last Night)

Eh, it's a lost cause no matter what, since he pulled the classic "people just twist my words and don't understand me, I'm out of here!" move, which is the rhetorical equivalent of quitting halfway through a game you're losing because your opponents are trash-talking you, even though in reality the "trash talk" is actually just attempts at friendly conversation. -
An English teacher that writes "hours" as "hs?" I fear for our children.

Chris referenced that in episode 178 or 179. Good times.

The biggest thing old Thumbs had is Nick Breckon.

I switched my default search engine over to Bing a month ago and I'm earning enough Bing reward points to get me infinite free Hulu+ subscriptions for an indefinite period of time. (If you're interested in this, let me know and I'll give you a referral link.) Our beloved podcast is also advertising Hulu+ subscriptions, including 2 weeks free if you use the promo code Thumbs or whatever when you sign up. Plus some of you probably have Hulu+ already. So what I'm saying is, there's the potential for a serious Hulu+ contingent around here. And this means access to a shitton of Criterion collection films, aka many of the best films ever made, plus Armageddon. (Actually Armageddon is one of the Criterion films NOT available for streaming on Hulu+. Jake and Co. are definitely lying to you when they say Hulu+ has all the Criterion films. It has like, way fewer than that.) There's some seriously good seriously classic shit there for the watching. Cría cuervos, Stranger Than Paradise, The Wages of Fear, Wings of Desire, Woman in the Dunes, Harakiri, Andrei Rublev, Ashes and Diamonds, Au hasard Balthazar, Ali: Fear Eats the Soul, Cure, Drunken Angel, La haine, The Killing of a Chinese Bookie... I could go on and on with dozens of other movies that are absolutely tremendous and that also make you feel bad for not having seen or even heard of them because you're not as much of a film snob as you wish you were. But we can fix that! We can watch these films! I'm going to be watching a fuckton of films over the summer, because this summer is my "become more cultured" summer. I'm also reading a fuckton of books but unless you can read novels at the rate of one every few days or faster, you likely can't keep up with me, so instead of a book club I'm thinking film club. Anyone interested? We'd watch, like, a movie a week, picked from the list of Criterion films that Hulu+ has available. Then we'd discuss the movie. Pretty straightforward, no? Are you with me? Check out this website to see what is on offer.

Nick is many things to many people. Nick is a man of all seasons. Nick contains multitudes. -
A chili that starts with ground meat and which at no point includes actual chilis is a joke. I mean I literally thought that article was a joke at first.

Well, she says "vegetarian" but eating fish definitely makes you not a vegetarian. -
Well I mean in the latest Batman movie Occupy Wall Street are the bad guys.

Somewhere it said Idle Weiss. Maybe on the poll.
-
It was originally spelled Idle Weiss. It was presumably changed because people weren't hip to the joke or something.
-
It's spelled "Weiss" though isn't it.

There was editing involved. Nick's skin tone and the models' skin tone probably both underwent alteration in all three cases. Well, I posted them back when I made them, too.
