  1. Idle Thumbs 201: Adults Only

I can't tell if you're sarcastically arguing to prove the article's point or if you actually mean everything you are saying here.
  2. Movie/TV recommendations

The Final Cut is the one to watch, IMHO.
  3. IDLE THUMBS 200

Well, the thousands (millions?) of people whose lives he could save probably care how Notch spends his money. They seem like likely candidates. As for "how do you get rid of that much money," it's easy. Warren Buffet showed everyone how: just give it all to Bill Gates.
  4. SpyParty

Those pretty characters look awesome. My favorites are the lady with the adorable dog and the lady with the awesome hair.
  5. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

I was done with PAX after I saw this - it's from a PAX 2013 panel with the PA people. If you don't want to bother watching the ~2 minutes, Mike Krahulik/Gabe says that pulling the Dickwolves merchandise from the store (the T-Shirt and pendant that said "Team Dickwolf," aka "Team Rapist") was a mistake. Now, I mean, that sentiment alone is pretty shitty, but whatever, dude's a pretty shitty guy, I can deal with that. It's what happens right afterwards that always makes me close that browser tab instantly and swear off PAX for the rest of my life, which is that the audience erupts into elated cheering in support of the dude who wishes he had kept selling "Team Rapist" T-Shirts for people to buy and wear proudly at PAX. There's no way I'd ever feel safe in a convention center full of people willing to cheer for that bullshit.

  8. Half-Life 3

They say you can move around in a room that's up to 15x15 feet so I can't wait to step on my roommate's cat.
  9. Homeworld Remastered

  10. Homeworld Remastered

I've been hearing reports of missions bugging out if you load them from autosaves rather than hitting the "restart mission" button, and I guess formations are more or less broken compared to how they worked in HW1. Morninglord's posts in this thread are particularly detailed - I guess he was like a super duper HW1 fan so he's noticing all the little differences.
  11. Recently completed video games

    I agree 100% but:
  12. New people: Read this, say hi.

That's an interesting Thief to have in your top 5.
  13. Homeworld Remastered

The tutorials in my game say "INCOMPLETE" or something in the menu before you click on them so I think the brokenness is totally supposed to happen.
  14. Homeworld Remastered

Yeah, I mean, Homeworld is now a different game. In switching it over to the Homeworld 2 engine they changed all the combat and stuff, so now instead of the 1-to-1 weapons modelling of the original game, where something would hit a ship or miss a ship just depending on where the ship was, now it's all dice rolls, like in Homeworld 2. All the tactics are different, they changed the resource costs on a bunch of ships and on research, from what I hear the formations work completely differently... I mean I'm not saying the game is worse, and you get the original Homeworld anyways, but this is pretty much the definition of George Lucasing it up. Even the cutscenes have been redrawn! That's not a bad thing, they look nicer, but they also look a bit different. That's Lucas Bread and Butter.
  15. Homeworld Remastered

Here is a reference card if you want it.
  16. I Had A Random Thought...

Gravity is the real Disney villain. I liked Up because the bird was hilarious.
  17. The threat of Big Dog

    Only like 9 years late!
  18. Frozen Cortex

I adore Frozen Synapse but buying a whole new game for lots of $$$ is something I try to avoid whenever possible. I do like the idea of being able to make an all-pink robot football team though.
  19. Nuclear Throne: Oh! I accidentally ate my gun.

Finally made it to stage 5 with crystal dude. Twice, in fact. I was using the crown that starts you off with a mutation but gives you no choices over the mutations you get. That seemed to help me, or maybe Crystal is just a cool character, or maybe I'm getting better. I dunno. Another new (?) thing is that now there are purple chests that give purple weapons. I think maybe they are just cursed, in that you can't drop them, but I'm not really sure.
  20. Offworld, an economic RTS from Soren Johnson

You can buy this for less than $30 which seems pretty nuts considering it just went up for sale a little while ago. I haven't caved yet (I still think Brad Wardell is yucky) but I'm getting closer.
  21. Nuclear Throne: Oh! I accidentally ate my gun.

Ah, I didn't know that. I guess they patched it recently and added in little modifiers you can use on each run. Activating one of them makes a little robot with a crown follow you around, but more importantly it changes the game: one makes it so that the only chests you find are ammo chests, another makes it so that pickups are worth more but they disappear fast, etc. The variety they add is pretty neato.
  22. Nuclear Throne: Oh! I accidentally ate my gun.

That trick seems like it would be detrimental, though, for the same reason level skips in Spelunky are detrimental - you lose out on the resources you would have collected in the levels you skip. In terms of neat hidden stuff to find (spoiler/secret for level 3):
  23. Star Wars VII - Open spoilers

A lot of scenes in the first three Star Wars movies are really masterful. The Battle of Yavin in the first movie, the asteroid field escape in The Empire Strikes Back, the lightsaber duel and the fight on Cloud City at the end of The Empire Strikes Back, the fight on Jabba's sail barge, and the final battle in space/on the ground/inside the Death Star in Return of the Jedi are all really tremendous. They're expertly scored, they're easy to follow, they're exciting, they have peaks and valleys of tension, the stakes are always super clear, and they just generally look pretty great - the claustrophobia of the Death Star's trench; the various sizes of spinning asteroids in the asteroid field; Luke and Vader's lightsabers lighting up the darkness and illuminating the smoke, rendering them in silhouette; the switches from sunlight to darkness when we move from seeing the fight outside the barge to seeing the reactions inside the barge; the crazy number of space ships flying and Ewoks and Stormtroopers at the end... it's all just really great stuff. Compare this to a lot of movies these days (or any time, really) that aren't as well made, where the music hardly approaches John Williams level, the camera shakes everywhere and you get lose every cut because you don't know what you're looking at, everything is balls to the wall the whole time, you don't really give a shit what people are fighting about, and everything is blue and orange, and it's clear why the Star Wars movies are pretty great. The action scenes in the Indiana Jones films are great for pretty much the same reasons.
