  1. Since this episode brought up the distinct character of David Lynch's voice, I thought I would take this opportunity to post this clip of David Lynch appearing on Letterman as part of an appeal campaign to keep Twin Peaks on the air. It doubles as a pretty great reflection on the culture at the time.
  2. Sorry, not free, read article too quickly. It's $2 (thought it was saying the base game was $2, but its actually like $5 I think?) Anyway, totally worth it regardless.
  3. Oh yeah, also since Monument Valley was mentioned in passing on this episode, worth pointing out that they released some new levels for free today.
  4. They talked about this game at the end of the first episode of Dave Sirlin's podcast, and it was funny.
  5. My friends and I didn't refer to Mario as Super Mario growing up, but I grew up in Washington, DC which isn't exactly the East Coast while it isn't the South either, so its a weird edge case. I definitely remember by cousins in New York & New Jersey calling him Super Mario.
  6. Just Cause 3

    Glitch free?
  7. You can think about the type of roles heroes play in a LoMa, and basically a lot of the same principles apply to the SI in L4D. So the spitter is more of a team fight character than a roaming support. I don't think that makes the role(s) less well thought out.
  8. Nobody expects the Dragon Age Inquisition

Hearing so many good things about this game on twitter.
  9. Yeah the jockey is seriously the most fun special infected to play as. Also, as if to prove my point about the worthlessness of music and how indifferent the public is to how they consume entertainment, the new Usher song is available in Honey Nut Cheerios boxes sold at Walmart. http://www.billboard.com/articles/columns/the-juice/6312254/new-usher-song-honey-nut-cheerios-walmart
  10. Ideas for 3MA shows

Ha yeah. I went through the list of episodes since the game became available to purchase digitally just to make sure I hadn't simply forgotten about it/missed an episode.
  11. Games from the Podcast

80 Days is wonderful. The Banner Saga was great until the BS final boss sequence. I like Sir, You Are Being Hunted a ton, but also get too stressed out by the game to make much progress. So I dunno if I would recommend it or not. CS: GO is a lot of fun with friends. I need to finish Jazzpunk, it was enjoyable. Did not end up liking Might & Magic: Clash of Heroes despite a promising start. I thought the structure of the single player campaign was bad. Transistor had combat that was kind of tactically interesting, and the art style was beautiful, but I hated a ton of other things about it. It was like the Bioshock Infinite of indie games. Spelunky is still my go to game if I don't know what else to play. It's fantastic. I finally got into DOTA 2 this year.
  12. Yeah, MI3's voice work was very good. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for some of the stuff that came after.
  13. This just makes me want to play more TF2. I don't know about this game though...
  14. I personally don't understand why people are against a game with no-VO. I can't think of any game I've ever played that just featured text that I thought was worse off for it. Maybe I'm just old.
  15. Man, there were two wtf shots in this episode that are things you would think would have stuck with me, but I hadn't remembered at all when watching this episode. 1. That llama. Goddamn. 2. The people playing tennis at night. Neither connected to the plot in anyway, but just totally striking images. Also, I had never put two and two together, but at the Horns' residence they have that same creepy antler chandelier that you see at One Eyed Jacks.
  16. Episode 283: A Sterile Future

This was the first Firaxis game in awhile that I held off from buying. One thing that was cool about each iteration of Civilization is that each game had a slightly different thing to say about human history that was expressed through its game mechanics. And Beyond Earth, by staying so close to the Civ 5 formula, really doesn't seem to say much of anything at all. The changes from Civ 5 really don't seem like they add up to any sort of compelling statement. So I feel like I'm looking at a game that mostly plays like Civ 5, but I already have Civ 5 so why do I want to play this instead? Even with some nice features included in the game, I don't think there's ever been a good answer to that question.
  17. Yeah its every Tuesday but like, later in the day. Seems to come out about when I leave work (West Coast timezone)
  18. I don't think that's right. Before the mp3 came along there was a lot of advertising and marketing for high end stereo equipment. That market lost out and is now just a niche thing. The issue though isn't whether the audio equipment industry got it right VS the Blu Ray industry. It's whether or not an improved format will create an interest from people in a particular song or movie or whatever where previously there was no interest? And I think regardless of the differences between the audio equipment industry and the Blu Ray industry, the answer to that is still no. It's not as if film restoration is a new thing. You sometimes see restored films appear in theater. There usually isn't a huge wave of interest in these things though. People appreciate better quality things, but it isn't what drives interest largely.
  19. Reminds me of the art style from the 3rd Monkey Island game, which I think is underutilized.
  20. I wouldn't feel too bad about it. There are so many little details that go into Twin Peaks. You're gonna miss stuff. This is like my 4th time rewatching the series and I keep seeing stuff I never noticed before. I mean, some of it is likely just stuff I forgot, but also there is a lot of stuff you might not pick up on the first time around, or won't seem significant until you've rewatched it, or your brain just flips off for a moment and you plain miss something, or you don't make some connection, etc. I think it was a good observation Jake made about how everyone seems to misrecognize Laura. I'd say that people's inability to see things as they are is a pretty important overall theme for the show.
  21. Ideas for 3MA shows

I think an episode on Kingdom of Dragon Pass is probably in order at some point.
  22. I disagree with the idea that better visual quality will make older movies more appealing to people. If you look at people's listening habits, they've basically spent the last couple of decades moving to formats with decidedly worse audio quality for the sake of convenience/cheapness. While there is a market for people that would rather listen to vinyl than mp3s, or people that are interested in a properly remastered album, those people (and full disclosure: this includes me) are a distinct minority of music listeners. I suspect the same is true with restored older films. This is tremendously exciting for connoisseurs, but most people aren't going to give a shit. They're just going to watch whatever is new on Netflix. On a completely different topic, I agree with tberton about L4D2. Thematically it was less interesting than the first game, but the gameplay was way better, and the multiplayer was way better as the infected compared to the first game.
  23. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

Also it would be a mistake to think that intelligence was a necessary condition for attending, or even completing, law school.
