Monster Hunter meets Dark Souls meets Yakuza? It's not very Final Fantasy, but it's pretty easy to see the influences based on what's currently working in the Japanese game design sphere.

Accounts of police officers firing too-large numbers of bullets at people aren't uncommon. Honestly, while it's quite upsetting, I don't see how firing 11 times is really worse than firing once. Firing once establishes the intent to kill the suspect. Police are trained to fire until they are satisfied the perceived threat that prompted the lethal force is neutralized (whether or not it actually merited lethal force in this case, which it clearly didn't). In this particular case, fewer bullets would probably have meant fewer deaths, but a single bullet _can_ kill somebody. From a general police behavior perspective, I _want_the officer to assume that every time he pulls the trigger, somebody is already dead. I feel I'm not explaining this well. There was only one decision made: the decision to use the gun at all. The problem existed at the point where he chose to pull the trigger the first time. Everything after that is just following through the course of action that had already been started. Even the 3 second pause there, while it may seem damning, probably wasn't enough time for his to change his mind, particularly in the heat of the moment.

Trapt / Deception is kind of horror themed, and I seem to recall it being pretty camp in it's presentation. There's a new one on Vita I haven't tried.

How Firewatch, BioShock, Gone Home and System Shock are all set in the same universe

When I read this thread, I can't help but think of this guy. -
Damn it, but computers have become really complicated

Have you replaced the battery ever? Mac batteries, I guess because they're designed with very little tolerance, have a tendency to swell up over time as the chemicals react and gas gets trapped inside. The exact location where the battery swells is right underneath the touchpad, which can cause it to have phantom clicks and missed clicks, and also just overall weird behavior. -
I can't tell who is being sincere in this thread and who isn't.

Idle Thumbs 175: It's an Itchio

I hoped you'd show up, SecretAsianMan, because I know you speak some Mandarin from previous conversations, and I hoped somebody would get it. (And establish that I'm not just a madman.) -

What's better than terrible jokes? Bi-lingual terrible jokes! A man walks into a Chinese deli and says "I'd like a Turkey sandwich, and do you have mustard to put on it?" "Mayo." HAHAHAHA. Kill me. -
So, those comments are pretty good, I was skimming them mildly amused until I got to this one: Which completely slayed me, for reasons I am unable to explain.

I don't really know what to make of this, because Korra was originally supposed to only run for 2 short (13 ep?) seasons, which they then gradually extended. So, they had some level of increasing confidence in the show (or maybe just unexpected airtime to fill?) The back and forth makes me almost believe the spin that they found that their target audience just prefers to consume it online, and they're trying other distribution models as an experiment. I haven't watched it since the Season 2 finale though, once they started stealth-releasing it I couldn't be bothered to find it. If it ends up on netflix, I'll probably watch it then, that's how I watched AtLA, and I think it was probably better for it.

Yeah. I assume they have a warehouse full of the old chips and whatnot that they need to clear, and a cosmetic update is probably the best way to goose the sales to do that.

I always liked the moment in the Temzarian episode when Temzarian becomes Skinner, when Skinner's mom tell him to go to his room, then says under her breath "3rd door on the left". It's a nice little joke that redefines the whole dynamic.

David Lynch's Josh Brolin's Campo Santo's Fire Watch With Me: A Motion Picture Event

Whittling would probably be historically accurate. -

For the record, in my mind, this is still just "the Edward Abbey game", and as a result, I expect to be about a middle-aged white misanthrope. -

Unfortunately, after very cursory googling, I could only find US Forest Service demographic info going back to 2009. According to that, he should probably be black*. Although the demographic breakdown is probably different within Wyoming or wherever. Edit: oops, misread the chart. Looks like its 81% white, I don't know what "index scores" are. -
The "what the crap was that game called again?" thread
BobbyBesar replied to BadHat's topic in Video Gaming
Hey, thorn. It's called Tonk in the Land of Buddy Bots. I thought you were building a ship, but no! You're building a bot. Who's your buddy. A buddy-bot, even. Listed for Atari, but I definitely played in on the Apple II, maybe a pirate port or something. -

thorn - I'm pretty sure I played it. In fact, I've been looking for the name to that one for quite some time now, but I haven't been able to figure it out. Even trolled the entire list of Apple ][ games to see if anything sparked. I thought it was ___'s Adventure with some goofy alien name in the blank (Zonk or Bonk or something) - if I recall you were a little alien with big eyes, but couldn't find anything that way either. When I can remember, I'll paw through my old Apple disks at my parents' house and see if I can find it. -
I think it's based on Opera. That's what the DS browser was, IIRC.

There's a significant difference, computationally, between running a native port and emulation. I can't speak to the relative complexity in this particular case though.

What the hell is that graph? Edward Tufte would have a conniption.

Now with Blast Processing.

Yeah, the Famicom buttons one is pretty boss. Thinking about it, if you're going to do stupid naming shenanigans, this one isn't bad. Your grandma will go to Gamestop: "I want to buy a 3DS" "The old 3Ds or the new 3DS?" "The new one, I guess." And they'll get the right one.
-
The should call is the 3D-DS2. That will solve all the naming problems.
-
I guess this is the DSi revision for the 3DS? Given the second analog, I'm assuming this is the "Smash Bros" revision of the 3DS? Nintendo really hasn't learned a thing about market confusion from the WiiU naming fiasco, have they?

I need somebody to tell me how to feel about Space Dandy. I think it's doing some sort of interesting things. But I also think it's a lark. I know that something can be multiple things at the same time, but I'm just having a hard time parsing this one. I'm not even sure if I like it or not.
