  1. These "Great Gatsby" fan covers are good

I never realized the Battle Royale manga was based on a book by the same guy. I just chewed those up at my local library as a teen.
  2. Candy Box

This game made me realize how important discovery is to keeping the mind in Exploration Mode rather than Farm Mode. When I started I was actively playing it a lot, exploring the world and how everything worked, and then I got into refining my build and worked out how to economically progress as quickly as possible. As the discoveries slowed down, I appreciate the fact that the game allows me to 'play' it without touching it, essentially doing by itself the mindless grinding that RPGs sometimes force you to do to get to the next cool power or beat the next boss or area. I know that if I just have my computer online and let the game ripen by itself, I can eventually pluck the fruit of new cool stuff using my accumulated lollipops and candies.
  3. I Had A Random Thought...

In the past month I realized you can use tweezers to actually landscape your body like a garden. It's occaisonally really painful though, and apparently they'll just grow back even pulling out the follicle every time. It's especially difficult and painful to try and get the hair around your fun parts, but I still feel a lot better having started doing this.
  4. Dragon's Crown: Gaze past the giant witch tits

He's taking it there because it's the most logical and strongest argument to make. You'd have to be silly to not see how the representation of women in media is affecting how people, women included, consider women in their life. It's the same with degrading language like nigger or faggot and stereotypes of all kind, when this shit becomes wide-spread it's very damaging to societal progression. There is absolutely a long-term problem in regards to how women are portrayed in media, I just don't think it's bad in this specific game, or at least it's too early to tell by just the art.
  5. Meeting people from the internet is weird

apropos of nothing Jake says a weird thing. Ahh, it's just like the podcast I'm curious how well you Thumbs hosts know the forum-goers here in general. I know you guys read the episode threads because you comment often, and probably the video game forum threads, but do you find any of the bits where we're explicitly characterizing ourselves like the Life or Plug Your Shit threads here, and could you recognize us from the Post Your Face thing?
  6. Dragon's Crown: Gaze past the giant witch tits

I don't have any conclusions to offer but I'll put this out as an observation: I have no problem when characters are sexualized, male or female. It's weird that sexualization and objectification are often tied together and it's unfortunate that some people take social cues, whether subconscious or not, from these media. I think it's more relevant to talk about character complexity which is currently heavily weighted towards male characters, females mostly playing shallow roles or one-shot jokes. This is reflected in the art and animation of games as well as the writing, the two usually go hand in hand but don't necessarily need to, you can have a sexy female with a fleshed out role. In regards to this specific game I'd bet all of the characters, males included, will be little more than meat-suits for the player to inhabit so I don't really take issue with the difference in physical representation. From a design standpoint it seems to me these are all different so that the silhouettes are easily discernible.
  7. Post your face!

shaven 20 year olds and old 30s bearded men. Idle Thumbs.
  8. Unnecessary Comical Picture Thread

    what even how
  9. Feminism

I don't see it as a sweeping weighted claim, just an observation in a void. It's one of those pithy parting shots writers enjoy throwing out sometimes. Maybe in real life some women talk a lot about men, or are affected by the media they enjoy, but either way I don't consider that to have any broader meaning. The Bechdel test is to search for a single instance of women talking to one another about anything other than a male character, not to try and weight the ratio of conversation about men vs anything else.
  10. Things That Improve Your Life

Oh don't worry, I'm sure some people are annoyed when we roll around in the mud and fling poo at one another, but it's just some good old fashioned armpit-fart humor. Idle Banter is for Idly Bantering in whatever manner you choose, it'd probably be less cool if the entirety of the forum became oops all dick jokes though. If you guys haven't already done, grab f.lux. It majorly reduces eyestrain, just set it to 3400k always and you can computer all the time with no headache or sore eyes. It gives your screen an orange tint, but it just takes like 5 minutes for that to feel normal. I remember it getting mentioned earlier in the thread as some sort of sleep assist, but the main usefulness is to remove dat slight eye pain.
  11. Things That Improve Your Life

To be honest I've never had morning wood, or wet dreams. I learned about them in some sex ed class in high school though, apparently most guys get em. That was also the class with the teacher who told us all never to do anything anal though, so boo on that. That's something related to the thread: anal will improve your life. Any gender, any time. Do it.
  12. Life

I read that as see hipsters, do vegans, eat rain. Sounds like a trip to me!
  13. Post your face!

We may not have urkel, but we do have santa. It's a strong day for the Idle Forums.
  14. It strikes me that Idle Thumbs and the Telltale office might really love Mafia and it's probably a cool game to play on the Stream. It's played in person like a board game without a board, over about a half hour. There's also different rulesets for a long-form version designed for forum play, which allows more duplicity and manipulation and information trade/control (especially with a PM system).
  15. I Had A Random Thought...

same here, in middle school I'd get together with my best friend and sleep in the TV room, playing PS2 and SNES games and watching biker mice from mars while chugging down purposely staled marshmellows and boxes of cheez-its.
  16. I Had A Random Thought...

I found another interesting thing in Candy Box,
  17. New people: Read this, say hi.

hi moosek, check out the Multiplayer Networking subforum for cool gamer people. The way it's set up each game basically has its own thread.
  18. Plug your shit

that looks like a fucking awesome event, Snuggles seems like my favorite game and apparently from the pictures there was another one involving the red pointery thing, the goal of which was getting guys to grope each others' butts. So that's a strong contender. In America we call Grape jelly and everything else jam. It's grape jelly, strawberry jam, marmalade jam, etc, in fact I didn't realize the two are basically synonyms for a very long time.
  19. Life

Lifehacker suggests iced tea if you drink soda for the sweetness because it's similar and you can sweeten it yourself with sugar instead of high fructose corn syrup, or if you do soda for the caffeine, black or green tea.
  20. I Had A Random Thought...

I sometimes wonder how my title changes the tone of my posts since I mostly forget about it and I have a pretty dry voice here usually. It's just too strong to change though.
  21. I Had A Random Thought...

Maybe, but then you can just go run to a corner store and buy a bunch of candy and eat it, because adults.
  22. Dota 2 being essentially a remake of the original Dota does carry basically everything back into it, but I disagree that makes it worse in any objective way. For example: in LoL the Lords have zero turning time which makes the action feel snappier, while in Dota the Lords do have some turning time which sacrifices that more visceral feel for some tactical nuance. The decision Riot made to remove this turning time is a more modern approach to game design, making everything as viscerally enjoyable as possible, but it isn't objectively better or worse. The existence of the creep deny mechanic allows Managers in Dota to be competing directly with each other at every step in a game, which means that any skill difference directly becomes an advantage for one player. In LoL both Lords in a lane can and usually do last hit each creep on the enemy side and are not forced to compete directly, though of course both games encourage poking. On the other hand if you're engaging in role-playing to any degree it feels incredibly wrong to attack your own guys, which is essentially the statement Dota 2 makes: it is not trying to be anything other than a competitive video game. The rules of the game are abstract like the lines on a soccer field, having no meaning other than to enable better gameplay. The fact that most things are the same as DotA 1 isn't some blind follow-through on Valve's part, they're choosing to keep these things like high spell mana cost, denying, the mechanical differences, they're keeping it all because they've chosen not to take the modern approach, and in doing so I feel they're preserving a lot of what makes DotA great. To be clear I'm not criticizing Riot for choosing a different path nor am I saying LoL is a lesser game, I don't play either at a high enough level to make that call. What I'm saying is these choices are not objectively bad, they're aiming at a goal which they hit well.
  23. First Person Shooters (PC)

It seems intuitive to me that first-person games would make more sense to a newbie gamer with a mouse than an analog stick, I mean your head doesn't turn robotically moving at the same speed along its full path. BTW tegan what you're describing may actually be Field Of View motion sickness. Basically the way it works is because our real eyes see in an FOV of about 105 some people have varying degrees of motion sickness when playing a game that runs on a lower FOV. Most games (console and PC both) are built to run on 90 FOV, but if it's a PC game you can almost always change it to 105. Even if the game doesn't explicitly avail you that option in its in-game menus you can google 'game FOV solution' and find where the option is in the .ini file.
  24. I Had A Random Thought...

Playing Candy Box just now, and my god do I love how
  25. I Had A Random Thought...

You date multiple people at a time? I don't so I'm curious where your stopping point is, is it a bunch of failed first dates, or if you do go for someone a second time do you then stop with all the other people? I prefer to have it simpler just to keep the dramas down.
