  1. Well, Thumbs

I'm reading that in the Fez companion cube voice.
  2. New Forums! Post feedback, notes, etc here

I feel like you guys were like, "oh wow, youmeyou just joined, we should snazzy up this dump!" It's ok guys, you don't have to try that hard for me. I do like the changes though.
  3. G4ming Keyb0rdz

I've got a Corsair K60. It was on sale on Newegg for so I picked it up (previous one was a horrible-for-gaming Apple keyboard). It's great for gaming as it has cherry reds and the wasd and first 4 numbers are extra strength heavy rubber topped keys. It also has a great wrist rest. For typing, it's terrible, or maybe I'm just used to the tiny Apple keys that you barely have to depress to get a response.
  4. Driving into SF from the tunnel and not seeing the bridge until you're *RIGHT THERE* due to the fog is fucking magical. I lived in SF for 2 years after college and really enjoyed my time there. Despite having been born/spent 80% of my life in NYC, I feel like I'm more at home when in San Francisco. NYC for me feels like a great place to DO things while SF is more of a great place to do nothing. But the good connotation of doing nothing, not the bad.
  5. Diablo III

In the main menu screen under 'resume game' there should be a 'choose quest' button. From here you can select the quest you were on previously along with the last checkpoint you reached in that quest.
  6. Level artists Vs. Minor obstacles

Frozen Synapse has a great application of rocket launchers: they'll blow up anything and are used as a way to demolish enemy cover. But they can afford to do that as the game has such a limited set of variables at play. The problem with wanting unlimited possibility space is you need unlimited resources to do so. So yes. Video games.
  7. Level artists Vs. Minor obstacles

I still recall with consternation Snake's inability to jump over foot high obstacles in Metal Gear Solid. Really stood out in an otherwise amazing game. I'd say it's a necessary evil in any non-sandbox title, but I guess it comes down to how subtle you can make it so as not to break immersion.
  8. Maximillian Payne: Part Trois

I've heard negative things about the added cover dynamic, that it kind of negates the need to John Woo your way through a gunfight. But, having enjoyed the first two, I'll definitely pick this one up once the price drops.
  9. Diablo III

Calling it hollow at normal levels can be understood. But once it gets more difficult you actually have to strategize to get out of a battle alive. That's where the depth of the game comes to the surface. I'm also quite interested to see how the PvP pans out. Been enjoying my games with the idlethumbs crowd. Good times. It's kind of fun having like 10 different friends' games to choose from.
  10. Hahah, I ninja skipped my iTunes forward through that part. My ears remain virginal to all things Walking Dead.
  11. Arma II is going to incorporate DayZ in its next patch, apparently. http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=16786 AWESOME.
  12. Diablo III

Huh, I guess you're right. I didn't notice them at all for some reason before. They were kind more of a nuisance this time around... I only played through the beta a couple of times though, so my memory is likely at fault.
  13. Diablo III BattleTags

youmeyou#1485 Look forward to smashing undead skulls with you all!
  14. Diablo III

I played through the beta chapters this morning before work. Nothing's changed besides a few balance tweaks (they added a shield skeleton and it seems the guardian runs away more but maybe that's just my imagination) My character is Thelonious the Monk. The story is really background, but that's par for the course for my experience with blizzard games. It's more about getting to build your character and play around with your skill-set. I'm also intrigued by the Auction House. I wonder if I can earn back what I spent on the game with absolute minimum effort spent.
  15. Awesomenauts

Yep. I finally played online last night and just got wrecked. It did not go well. The bot AI is kind of horrible in the game. Even when there's a clear path to the enemy base they'll still go after existing turrets until there are none left. And they never wait for eachother to present a strong force. I've decided the best combo right now is healer and monkey. Healer heals monkey who does dps with his crazy long range laser. Failing that the tank robot is a good companion as he can just strut in front of a turret (as long as there's healer nearby) and soak up damage indefinitely. What platform do you guys play on? I'm hotcoals on xbl.
  16. Ghost Recon: Future Thumb Soldier

Yes, one might say it boasts some... robust features.
  17. Please, tell me...

Skyrim was the one game in recent memory where, looking back, I'm kind of torn about whether I had any fun playing it or not. Mostly I think the devs took advantage of that obsessive nature many gamers have by having everyone and their dog (literally) give you quests so that you'd spend hours running all over the land completing fairly minimal quests that led to others and so on. So it was like trying to clean off a ledger sheet that kept filling up over and over. It felt fun at the time but if someone asked me if I wanted to do that now I'd probably tell them to fuck right off.
  18. Please, tell me...

First of all, I don't like the stigma of not being able to enjoy games simply for being 'fun.' The reason most people do anything is because it's fun. Watching TV is fun, sports are fun, drinking and having sex is fun. Why try and attach an awkward self-important definition to what is essentially just another human pastime? Also, there are internal and external forms of expressing enjoyment. Running around playing tag or another activity that requires physical exertion is by necessity going to be more extroverted. But when you play tetris or a similar game that requires very intense concentration, your thought process is internalized. There's less overt communication, it's just a completely different activity. Instinctual and reactionary vs hypothetical and intellectual. But dopamine can be released by a variety of different inputs, so while the activity may be different, the result (fun) will be the same. So I guess that's a complicated way of saying I play games because they're fun. Though you're right it bears discussing what makes different kinds of games and activities fun. (Liking a game for being challenging or liking an immersive experience or liking playing god for example)
  19. Day Z really is blowing up and I might just have to try it. Any thumbs playing right now? I hear the servers are always full, which might spoil things. Still, everything I read sounds absolutely AMAZING. Basically a Stalker MMO. (Think of the possibility spaces!)
  20. Did you see that ludicrous display last night? Thing about Tracy McGrady is Jersey Nuggets aim to solve Bynum, L.
  21. Awesomenauts

Just picked this up last night for xbla, really fun! Having the coop option is really nice as it's very enjoyable to all be in the same room coordinating strategy and what have you. This is also my first Lords Management game so I'm kind of learning as I go. It seems relatively simple: hide behind drones and kill turrets without getting killed. Most of my wins (against the bots) have come from just charging forward and ignoring my own turrest and basically base trading. Because as long as you get to the enemies base first that's where they'll go to defend it, keeping the fight in their turf. I'm sure this all completely changes when you go online.
  22. Carmageddon: Kickstart

The first Carmageddon was absolutely perfect. So much fun, so many hours sunk in, trying to run over super-fast cows and "police, stop!" and that football stadium stage... oh the memories. That being said, I loved Twisted Metal 2 and haven't even *liked* anything else in the franchise since. For whatever reason it never felt right without the early crunchy low-res 3D aesthetic. And maybe I grew up a bit too. So this gives me pause. I'm skeptical that they can take what made Carmageddon great and translate it to something that's relavent 20 years later. (Which is also a general problem with most of these nostalgia-based kickstarts)
  23. Gone Home from The Fullbright Company

Registers interest. All that drawer searching though... reminds me of playing MYST.
  24. The Elder ScrMMOlls

Whoo boy, that RPS article does not spell good tidings. Combine that with the fact that it's going to based of the SWTOR Hero engine and this is starting to look a lot like Bethesda cashing in on the MMO/WoW clone market very similarly to how BioWare has with The Old Republic.
  25. Diablo III

I'm pretty sure the beta is set to easy difficulty so in all likelihood the final game will be much more challenging. That may be that 'thing' that's missing from D1 & D2. I'm engaged by the social aspect, but I also think playing with different spells, attacks, and armor combinations will be the heart of the game for me. Just building up different characters and playstyles was where I had the most fun in the beta, and seeing how other players acted was an added bonus.
