I'm glad we can at least agree that they are selling sex. My main purpose in linking that image was that, in addition to the tired conceit of the storyline, trotting out the same ol' sexy babe poster that comes with every GTA game inspired that 'really?' moment ThunderPeel mentions. Maybe you can argue it's somehow satire, but it just looks immature to me. And that jars with what Rockstar seems to be driving towards: mature narratives that move the genre forward.

If a grenade rolls down a hill, and there aren't any thumbs to discuss it, did it really happen?
-
I wouldn't worry about the thumbs crew being afraid of talking a subject ... *cough, far cry 2* to death.

I guess it's a fine line and it certainly does depend on the game. Fez seems like it's best played in that community oriented puzzle solving manner, as another example. It would less suitable to have to use walkthroughs to get through a game like Portal, though, where much of the joy comes from those personal 'eureka' moments at solving a particularly difficult puzzle.

Can a game be considered well-designed while requiring the use of walkthroughs to not have a frustrating experience with? Not trying to criticize your conclusion, just something I'm curious about generally.

Erkki as far as I know, games are always cheaper on their respective daily sales. So unless the game you want is up for the daily sale, I'd wait 'til the last day to get it.

Idle Forums Game Club 2 - Shadow of the Colossus edition

As the one who introduced the colossus-a-month timeline, I do admit it would drag on. Let's do 2 weeks and keep story spoilered. -

You don't have to start on the first, just have to be done (with colossus #1) by the middle of the month. -

I'm in it and totally excited! I think starting on January 1st seems like a good plan. January is usually a pretty dead month as everyone's burned themselves out from the holidays. -
I think the visuals were used to amazing effect. Everything around you reinforces the idea of loneliness. Even the beautiful remains of a great civilization. The loneliness of the visuals is contrasted against the strength of the multiplayer. You meet a stranger, you call out, hopefully they respond. Or you're the one sailing about when you suddenly hear a quiet chirp from a long way away and turn to search for your new friend. I also think the controls are really, really good actually. Flower is a lot more free flowing and loose since it was mostly taking input from the six-axis. While there was looseness here, you still had plenty of control of your character. I also only used the analog sticks. The best moments actually were boosting off your multiplayer partner to the point where you could both fly through a huge stretch without ever touching the ground. Journey was my personal GOTY 2012. No other game this year has had as much an affect on me as playing through its final moments. You should get your girlfriend to play it too!
-
In an effort to be realistic about everyone's time and will, yes. But I could be overcompensating. What would you propose as an alternate timeline for this?
-
We could do one colossus a month starting january? I'd start a thread, but I don't have the time or skill to write a sweet intro like this one has.

Beta is now public. Get thee to your mechs! Also add me to your buddies list: fancifulnotion

I'd definitely do a SotC game club.
-
Not sure that anyone is drawing a line in the sand. Just your average hyperbolic internet conversation.

I'm playing Blood Money right now at 1920x1200, and it looks decent. It definitely looks dated, but it's playable.
-
In all honesty most of these covers look like mock-ups quickly done so Ken could ride the PR wave all this cover controversy is generating. None of them look particularly finished or well thought out.
-
On the one hand I agree, because I don't think fans tend to have very good taste. #1 for example is a pretty dull looking cover and that's winning. On the other hand, it's purely fan service anyway as they're only giving you the option to decide what goes on the back of the cover.

Well I'm playing HItman Blood money. We I'm playing Hitman: Blood Money now. It's very structured, the club can assign individual missions to play and talk about. Could be any of the original Hitman games. (And looks like they're coming out with an xbox 360 re-release of all 3) Also off the top of my head: the Thief series and the Penumbra series. Both are just games that I haven't played yet and probably could use an impetus to do so.

I'd be down to do another game for the game club. I really like this idea!

Am I right in thinking this is basically a multiplayer FTL? Because that would be ever so rad!
