Weekends are the only time people in different time zones can reasonably hope to play together, though!

Nice job, elmuerte! Can't wait to do some sneaky ship murdering! (thanks to Roswell47)

Did you guys do any voice chat? Is the in-game chat running yet? I'd be willing to set up a mumble server if not.

Oh man, I'll definitely try and make it next time! Normally saturdays are pretty good for me.

It's also generally more pleasant to play an FPS on a PC with a wider-than-usual FOV. This is to account for the fact that your eyeballs are only a foot away from the screen on a PC while they're more like 8-10 feet away from a TV set. So it helps enhance spatial immersion and fights claustrophobia.

The Cave: Ron Gilbert's Double Fine Game (A Tim Schafer Production) (Not Double Fine Adventure)

So has anyone else tried local co-op for this on PC yet? I played a session with my gf for a little over an hour last night and I just have to say neither of us enjoyed the experience. It feels shoehorned in the same way Tails was when he first was introduced into the Sonic games. A second player could control Tails but there was absolutely no point in doing so as the camera always centered on Sonic (and the first player). The Cave allows for multiple players to control characters but then fails to design the game in such a way as to properly allow for this style of play. The main problem of course is the camera. It only focuses on one character at a time and there is no split screen. This wouldn't necessarily break the game if the levels were as linear as in Trine or Rayman: Origins. But they're meant to be explored, and the group is meant to split up quite often when solving puzzles. The only other way this wouldn't break multiplayer is if there was online play but there isn't currently, afaik. The other problem is being forced to have 3 characters even when there are only two human players present. Trine solved this by having one of the characters only teleport in when selected. While it wasn't perfect, it was a whole lot more competent than the way it works in The Cave. While it's true that the third character warps in once you've hit a checkpoint, most of the time you're going to have to select that third character and force them to run to the relavent position to solve a puzzle. And often it's both of you trying to select the third character at once, prompting all kinds of confusion and name calling. Honestly, the only play style that The Cave seems designed for is single player with one player in control of all three characters. I can't recommend playing any other way, sadly. (unless the WiiU version has split screen which i'm assuming it does) -
Rad setup, I forgot how friggin' gigantic the OG XBOX was. There's also an existing thread about setups FYI: http://www.idlethumbs.net/forums/topic/7746-show-me-your-deskgaming-space/page__st__20__hl__+desks#entry192072

I'd argue Battlefield games are equally sisyphean, they just include punctuation in the form of match score limits. Any multiplayer game is necessarily sisyphean, there is no true win state; the game ends when you stop playing. Which is generally why I prefer single player games because I do enjoy that feeling of success reached by accomplishing specific non-repeating goals. Planetside 2 has certain aspects to it that can make you feel especially futile too. Attacking a base when both sides are equal and leaderless becomes a very clear lesson in attrition warfare. The first part of this time-lapse video is a good example of that: Where I have found enjoyable play in Planetside is similar to where I found it in Battlefield: playing with a squad of friends all communicating with each other. And when that is the context I've had far more interesting engagements in PS2 since your squad tends to exceed a dozen players and can capture and defend small bases and outposts away from the frontlines of battle. Which is super gratifying. The giant zerg balls (masses of players) are interesting to observe in PS2 but the lasting fun is playing with an organized group. (Which is why it's unfortunate so few on idlethumbs are interested in playing)

Yeah that show is so damn good. Everything that crew does is pretty much the best. Also recommend The Might Boosh, IT Crowd and Snuff Box. -

How long did it take you? -
Oh nice, part 2 is up! http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2013/01/23/ken-levine-the-conversation-part-two/

True, I've also got Dota 2 invites. But I bet that's about as useless as a screen door on a submarine (ship)

Could you spoiler that please? -
via argobot's twitter a week ago: http://www.rockpaper...ation-part-one/ I'm still reeling from this interview. This is one of the most fascinating gaming articles I've read in a long time. I keep going back to look for the part 2 update. I am enthralled!

Really? Huh. I bought mine because I wanted to play Journey and Ni No Kuni. (And the Uncharteds and God of Wars). The Blu-Ray player was totally just a bonus thing. I've used a gift card to buy Blade Runner and the Alien Trilogy and I think that's about where my collection is going to end.

Ah color me corrected, I was just looking at US sales http://www.geekwire.com/2013/xbox-360-wins-holiday-season-marks-straight-years-atop-market/ But I still don't know if I buy the argument that if the Xbox had had an external Blu-Ray drive available these numbers would be any different.
-
Yeah I think the whole no-disc thing is a silly tangent. It will eventually happen, but certainly not in a year. I'm not surprised MS went with Blu-Ray. Maybe it's with reluctance but it would have been crazy to ship a system in 2013-14 with anything but a Blu-Ray player or close. Regardless I don't think MS is currently losing a ton of business due to lacking the PS3's Blu-Ray player. Aren't their 360 sales way stronger than the PS3's right now, thanks in no small part to the fact that they're able to undercut them because it's way cheaper to make a 360 than a PS3?
-
Thunderpeel, are you suggesting that it's a good idea for MS to release an external Blu-Ray player right now? A year, assumedly, before their next system ships? There is no conceivable universe in which that would be a good investment.

Feel exactly the same way.

Did you guys all get aneurisms over over the weekend and forget about the triumph that is insult swordfighting? (And MI3's facsimile doesn't count) -
If anyone has an extra key, ship me! I've got a copy of Terraria sitting around. Not sure if the values equate.

Actually being bitten turns you into a zombie even if you survive the bite. It's confusing lore, but there it is.

I tend to prefer sci-fi fiction to fantasy so this is anathema to me! Sweet illustrations tho.
