  1. The threat of Watch Dogs

New trailer up, now with more train stopping: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=EtBh4QzZKz4 While this does certainly look like it'll be GTA IV + Hacking, I'm somehow not really into the idea of playing that kind of game. The interactions feel very, very simplified, with basically everything having one possible option. Stop train, hack people's bank accounts, activate road blocks etc. It also suffers from dev demo possibility space obfuscation. He's doing all this stuff as if it makes sense, but we have no idea why or whether there's a briefing you get beforehand or if you can just wander around the city, saving bystanders Spider Man 2 style then proceeding immediately to probably kill several cops. Having free reign to do what you want would be quite interesting, but I'm not seeing a very wide variety of intractable elements to make that a very likely expectation.
  2. Unsure if this will shape up to be a more interesting game than the disappointing Strike Suit Zero apparently was, but goddamn if that isn't an awesome aesthetic. From the 70s sci fi cover to the sweet lo fi but tightly designed art style and sound design. Very nice stuff.
  3. Monaco

I live in the US! We should play. Is the redhead the lookout, or a different character? Cus the lookout is indispensable for map awareness (in multiplayer when you can combine her with the hacker or mole) The hacker seems the most useful, I feel like guards at least at this early stage are easy to avoid but the security systems tend to be what screw me.
  4. Goddamnit, stop stealing things without me!
  5. Metro: Last Light

Though feel free to quit before the horribly imbalanced Still, one of my favorite shooters of the past ever. So this one is most certainly on my radar.
  6. I sort of understand what the designers were going for in making falling off be like, the worst. Because if there was no penalty for falling off, staying on wouldn't feel so thrilling. It's still problematic though and poorly balanced as many times the punishment is too severe and does little more than artificially lengthen fights and take the player out of the game. Speaking of insanely long fights: the 15th colossus.
  7. Nextbox 1080: The Reckoning

  8. Unfortunately, not being in your wonderfully post-work time zone I cannot join. I vote for some kind of weekend get together type thing!
  9. Papers, Please

Absolutely. Though I do also like that there are situations where you are given the opportunity to aid people illegally and must weigh that with the consequences of what docked pay would mean for your family. Creating interesting situations like, "I'd help ya buddy, but I've already got two citations and my son needs medicine so I can't afford a third!"
  10. Papers, Please

Is there a reason to detain rather than turn away? I never got a penalty for merely denying their passport.
  11. Papers, Please

This is super fascinating. As the game lulls you into the sweaty drudgery of being a bureaucrat it slips in startling bits of color and narrative, exemplified by frightened couples and mysterious conspiracies. The mechanics work wonderfully to force the player to balance on the razor's edge between being wrong and fast or being right and poor. And no matter how strictly the border is enforced, the suicide bomber, the murderer, the subversive, still gets through. Your state's policies are reactionary, brutal and effect you (mechanically!!!) as thoroughly as it effects those you damn to death. Really, really impressed so far.
  12. GDC 2013

GDC's #1ReasonWhy talk has gone up: http://www.gdcvault.com/play/1018080/ Lots of really fascinating and intense testimonials. A great addition to the ongoing discussion.
  13. Gearbox? *extended fart noise* I'm much more interested to see what the actual Homeworld devs have in store: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DDhSzuWdKgU
  14. Memory Of A Broken Dimension

ok Besides the frustrating obfuscation of needing to know console commands, I'm digging this a lot so far. Reminds me of Fez/Antichamber in the manner in which it displays puzzles that can only be solved by looking at them a certain way. Really sweet aesthetic too, they should have someone playing this at electronic shows.
  15. Memory Of A Broken Dimension

    patrick i was lost too.
  16. I managed to leap from pillar to pillar as they collapsed, which felt equally bad ass. It was a good fight as long as you kept off the ground.
  17. All caught up now. 12-14 So I guess next two colossi over the next two weeks, then?
  18. I'm also still doing it but am a bit behind. Finished 11 last weekend. 10-11 were super aggravating so it's been hard to pick up the controller again. Then again, this is a perfect time to catch up as there's a bit of a lull is new game releases.
  19. Recently completed video games

How do you beat it? After 60 seconds you enter Hyper Mode - does this mode have a win state?
  20. BioShock Infinite

Well you do murder a lot of female cops, so the music isn't the only forward-thinking element of an otherwise puritanical society.
  21. Holy crap the 10th and 11th colossi were the hardest and most frustrating fights I've played yet. Felt like throwing my controller during the 11th as Wander kept taking a million years to get up only to be knocked down again. ffffffff
  22. Flashback

Yeah I never beat it either. Played dozens of hours of the Sega CD (LOL) version, but I don't remember ever getting to an ending. Oh childhood gaming.
  23. BioShock Infinite

Yup. I posted it a few pages back.
