  1. SimCity: The City Simulator

So has this DRM, Amazon has stopped selling Sim City. That's right, it's gotten such poor reviews it's been pulled from the largest online retailer in the world. http://arstechnica.com/gaming/2013/03/ea-disables-non-critical-gameplay-features-to-relieve-simcity-servers/ In my own way I find this awesome. I've wanted to see EA CEO Ricittiello out for a while now. Between last quarters disappointment, and now with both Sim City and Dead Space 3 "disappointing" in sales, at least there's a chance. Of course, all the smart money's left EA a while ago, meaning the remaining stock holders are the dumb ones. On the other hand I feel bad for the Maxis guys. I don't know if it was there fault exactly, or who's fault all this stupid trouble was. Still, it can't be a good feeling. Maybe Riccietiello will get fired before they do, as the man seems want to fire people for failure, as he's apparently(?) closed down "Danger Close" and "Visceral Games" for Medal of Honor and Dead Space 3 already.

Meet new girl at coffee place, somehow hit it off on the first second, talking to her is really easy and she seems just as good with it. A few minutes later some other guy is hitting on her, that clever bastard Ohwell. Barely know anything about her, and the last girl I was actually really interested in was an astrophysics major that ran marathons, had her choice of full scholarships for a PHD at nice colleges, and like science fiction. Thus this post is tagged #Stupid high standard problems I'm perfectly ok with having. But that I literally just met her and felt like that, which is stupid, still seems to be indicative of something perhaps. It's not like I even go looking for "someone" to be interested in really. Also Miffy, I can't wait to see if a year from now, you suddenly realize you've entered a career where you are "in school" in one way or another for the rest of your life and realize "oh my god, what have I done??? " Hope it works out and it ends up being what you actually want to do. What made you want to do such a thing to begin with?

I think it looks fantastic! Finally, the first real next gen looking game, not Ubisoft's crap split gen stuff that you can tell is being held back by being on the 360/PS3. Sure, I hope the entire City doesn't look like that, would be rather dreary, but so far I'm sold on the visuals.

If it's Dishonored with better stealth and no bunk morality system consider me sold.
  5. SimCity: The City Simulator

I guess I'll wait to see when, and even if, they actually do so; not too mention to WHAT size. It'd take maybe, 4x the size to get me interested. Still not huge, and still missing things like highways, but I could still enjoy it. Still, by that time I might as well wait to see if it goes on sale as well. Edit- Also, if Ni No Kuni doesn't grab you in the beginning, I'm not sure what to say. The story was a big draw, but I stopped playing after the JRPG trappings of stretching out the game to twice as long as it should be, the tutorial to ten times as long, and still sticking with stupid menus for attacks when it's been more than a decade since western RPG's got rid of them for the better.
  6. Assassin's Creed: Mohawk

Watching the trailer and reading about the game, you change the dudes outfit and cut out what sounds to be a very small portion of the game and suddenly its a freeroaming historical pirate game that has nothing to do with AC. It's like the devs didn't want to make an AC game at all, they had this kickass idea about like, Red Dead Piracy or something along those lines. But then couldn't get it approved unless they put "Assassin's Creed" in the title. So they shoehorned the entire thing in. Even the trailer, cut out that last like 30 seconds and suddenly it's not an AC game at all. Not that it really looks like one to begin with. I don't know which came first, the pirate thing or "we're making another Assassin's Creed"; but that AC has so uncomfortable been shoehorned in still instead of this being it's own thing, and probably getting people who don't care about AC to look at it, is a pretty sad statement about the triple A games industry today. Still, if they can deliver on the promises, which I doubt as it sounds like it would take a Rockstar like budget and time commitment to do so, then consider me interested in the non AC parts of the game. "My name is Frenetic Pony, and I want to be a pirate!"

Giant Bomb: https://www.giantbomb.com/videos/quick-look-simcity/2300-7103/ Glad I hesitated in pre-ordering, it just sounds, too small. Like, you can quickly max out a city and then you just have to go do a new one, nor do the "region online" things sound interesting. If a city was, like, 9 times bigger it might sound good. But if I want small scale simulation, then I'm probably sticking with Rollercoaster Tycoon.
  8. Tomb Raider

I'm not sure you have to pay MORE attention to female characters, but as much would be nice. Nathan Drake LOOKS like an adventurer, sure he looks a bit of the male ideal, athletic and muscular and kind of ruggedly handsome. But then that's been around forever. He's still also obviously a character that fits with what he does. Lara and a lot of other female characters still are more obviously built towards being sexy without regard to what their character is supposed to be, if it's considered at all (mini stripper Cortana).
  9. Tomb Raider

God's these are annoying, kind of worked in Fable with it's slightly monty-python esque stuff, and back in Fable 1 it was actually kinda original. But now I remember there was a comic, I think it was about Dragon Age 2. Diagram of anatomy. It was just "Skin (outer layer) Blood (everything inside)". Ridiculous really, then again many video games have not an inkling in their design to ever, ever match their art to their setting unless it's a ridiculous, over the top setting. Bioware is particularly egregious at this, which is part of the reason I can't play their games anymore. Ashley Williams, tough female space marine, or runway super model ready for her walk? There are plenty of others, the latest Hitman and etc. But I guess Bioware was egregious enough to come to mind first.
  10. This is the new (console) shit!

Apologies for the title. Here's my question, the PSORB4PON3IES and the XBOXENOVER9000 are coming out. But what exactly is it that would get you to purchase them, preferably purchase day 1? Price, services, new controllers, the "cloud", games? What exactly would you guys go "OMG Day 1 Perch trigger pulled!" for these things?
  11. This is the new (console) shit!

This is just for Epic and Sweeney's sweaty, acid flashback like vivid dreams of pixels in hues and colors heretofore undreamed of by the waking mind, such glorious visions of unimaginable delight that he has no choice but to heed their calling as those of an entity beyond human comprehension grasping into our mortal plane for a prophet such as him to carry forth a message of such brilliant content that it can only be conveyed in a photo realistic video game. As for those developers not touched by the beyond, Durango and the PS4 won't actually cost much more to make games for, if they cost more at all. It'll probably get a lot cheaper depending on what you're making.
  12. This is the new (console) shit!

Yah, the fire has gone out a bit of the console race. Partially, my guess is because the PC is the one going along with Moore's law. Every PS4 "feature" is basically "Oh, you mean what I can do on my PC already?" Then again that's always been true, console's have never really lead the way. It wasn't until like 2004 that they even got multiplayer part way right, and Xbox Live is still vastly inferior to a good PC gaming multiplayer experience while costing $50. But there is something to be said for making it easy for people to do. It's sort of why consoles exist in the first place. Still it feels like consoles are at least as behind as they've always been. Sony is busy touting twitch.tv like services and "Onlive" stuff while the first adopter type scene, which has had that for years, has been jumping up and down about the Occulus Rift and such, and doing that for over a year now. Way to keep behind the curve I suppose.
  13. Recently completed video games

This, also your explanation about what "SpecOps" was "about" reminded me of those Inception jokes everyone like so much for about a year or two. "It's about the... etc. etc. BRAUUUUM" I just wasn't interested. The game is shoving "look how horrific this is!" directly into your face, and then thirty seconds later obviously forcing you to do that horrific thing. It's so blatantly, lazily manipulative that I just got bored. Yes, war is horrific. Yes, I know other video games let me enjoy blowing the shite out of stuff. What I meant was that there was some sort of message being rammed down my throat, one I didn't need. I was more interested when the game was showing me the questionable line between good and evil, "bad" and "good" guys. To suddenly have it be "oh aren't you horrible!" or, whatever it was trying to convey rather turned me off. I'd have vastly preferred it just presenting me with the situation and letting me question what "my" part was in it all, rather than trying to be so overt about something.
  14. Recently completed video games

This is the part of the game where I quit "Hey it's about morale choices in war" then "Lol nope." Either you're giving me a choice, which makes it impactful, or you're just ramming it down my throat, which could be interesting in it's own way, but wasn't done so here and just ruined the entire effect the game seemed to be going for. At least to me.

There's a difference, a big one, I can see it in movies, which are much better at scaling than games. In games it's rather amazing. This is of course coming from a PC, but I've played stuff streamed out to an HDTV.
  17. Destiny

Johnathon Blow goes full Molyneux, and we still like his games. Bungie just went there on what seems like Halo/Borderlands. Maybe that'll be a new industry term for a style of marketing "Full Molyneux".
  18. PL4YST4TION 4

Last I looked, LoL and other e-sports were pretty big, Putie Pie (the fuck do you spell that? my sister watches him so I don't know) and his cohorts were huge on youtube, and Multiplayer used to be "local only" for consoles as well. But yes, my question is the same as everyone else, Dude Where's My Games Bro? Maybe there's a PS exclusive game where more awkward developers come on stage and tell you about the games they're about to not show off. One of them should have been self acknowledging that no game was actually shown and then deal with it before walking off stage.
  19. PL4YST4TION 4

    A. Didn't see them announce that, it would be weird too, thought they mentioned the streaming would be the way you could try out games. The CPU for the next Xbox is the exact same one as in the PS4 essentially. They also have the same amount of RAM. But ram has gotten dirt cheap after... 2007 was it? Years ago now after anti trust litigation was brought against a bunch of DRAM makers, apparently they'd colluded to artificially hike up the price. Speaking of cost, rumor is about 300 euros, which probably means $400. Expect around the same price point from MS. It's weird and disappointing that both consoles are, once again, going to have very similar experiences. While the PS4 has some more horsepower under the hood, at a more divergent gap than the 360 vs PS3 (which the 360 won btw) it's still not enough to diverge the experiences remarkably. They both have 3d cameras standard, both have big HDD's and "Cloud" stuff from the outset, both have small advancements on the same old Dual Shock we've had since the PS1. Kind of disappointing neither really went nuts, nor did Nintendo, who's "our controller is a tablet!" is one of the stupidest business mistakes in history when actual tablets are about to eclipse PC sales anyway.
  20. PL4YST4TION 4

Then what should a console be based on? Frankly it's a little brilliant. People love watching others playing games, or sharing games, I've seen people take turns playing a single player game and the like. Making that possible and easy for people seems a good bet.
  21. PL4YST4TION 4

Nah, just disappointed "Yay more shooting!" But some of the rest was good. A lot less "look, awkward fake family having fun on stage!" stuff that MS has done recently. Looking forward to Watchdogs and that Suckerpunch thing, as well as The Witness but I'll just buy that on the PC. Maybe all but the Infamous on the PC actually. Unfortunately no other actual... game was shown really. Where's Uncharted 4 and The Last Guardian? Post Script! Oh, and that car thing was shown. That dude was creepy as fuck, half expect that he jerks off to new car pictures at home or something. Rather over zealous there. If you don't know what I'm talking about, find the Car Club or whatever it was and just watch, try not to cringe when he says things like "carbon" or "strap in".
  22. PL4YST4TION 4

#Shooterzone on the #PShooter4 Fuck you Sony, show me something I'd actually buy besides #SitRepShooter
  23. Destiny

It's this new "quasi MMO" style that's all the rage, similar to Day Z and etc. You go into area X, the server matches you up with an assortment of other random players, and says "now you guys form a P2P game". It's basically co-op matcmacking, but without ever waiting for a match to start or something.
  24. SimCity: The City Simulator

I, too, would like to know this. Not that I think 3000 or 4 were bad per se, probably spent a hundred plus hours on each. Heck I bought 4 on Steam in the winter sale and clocked up another 12 hours on it just for old times sake. Would probably clock another 12 if I ever clicked on it again. But I still feel 2000 was the best in a lot of ways. Jesus fuck, I just convinced myself to buy it either way just looking at my post. I always think "oh, I like highly competitive online games the most, or RPG's, or"... and then I realize that when I play the right kind of building Sim I'll play for hundreds if not thousands (Rollercoaster Tycoon probably hit a 1000+ for me) without noticing.
  25. PL4YST4TION 4

Oh that's actually brilliant! And here I am ashamed of not thinking of it. Imagine full personal stereo for not bothering others in the room, or with local multiplayer, with the headphones you already have as easy as kiss my hand! That's just smart if it is.
