  1. The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)

I just came across this: The music video itself has a weird 80's music video on acid vibe. I think it's because the guys are dressed so bizarrely, it just reminds me of "Cars" but not as weird because at least they don't look like albino aliens. But hey whatever I've never even heard of Empire of the Sun and it sounds pretty good. Also, youtube seems to think every other song I like means I would also like Bitter Sweet Symphony from the Verve. Well shut the fuck up youtube cause that shit sounds awful and I disliked it and stop bringing it up. Mostly because I use the recommendation to find new music and I said I don't like it, and I can't hyperbole to a self refining graph search, but I can here.

  3. The Witcher 3: What Geralt Wants

Morrowind FTW! Drink ALL the potions, kill the final boss five minutes after starting a new game, continue onward.
  4. The Witcher 3: What Geralt Wants

Yah, the beginnings are very linear and scripted, but it branches off into exploration and choices once you get beyond the openings.

  6. Gamescom 2013

I'm actually somewhat convinced now about Dragon Age 3. I thought Mass Effect 3 and DA2 were absolute bullshit, but at least they seemed to acknowledge that. Multiple player races, slower and more deliberate combat, coherent art design. I'm not pre-ordering it but at least I'm not writing it off until I see the reviews. As for Naughty Dog:
  7. Dragon Commander: Obama's Wrath

So.... uh. Yeah. See there's this game. Dragon commander. Dragons have jetpacks. It's an RTS. The quicklook opens with something that actually has to do with the title of this thread. Just... go watch http://www.giantbomb.com/videos/quick-look-divinity-dragon-commander/2300-7793/
  8. PL4YST4TION 4

I hope not, I like the studio behind God of War, but the story was played out with 3 and story was part of the games. Besides, it's not like they could advance much more on the "3D brawler where dude smashes stuff" genre anyway.
  9. Life

I accomplished something! I fixed my damned Nook. It's been broken for months now, apparently from whatever blocking the infrared touch layer. A toothbrush fixed it. Which feels incredible, after trying to be an author and seeing month after month "no thank you" without ever so much as anything more personal or specific than a form letter. I don't know why this, more than anything else, felt like an accomplishment, but it did. Also there's this thing, called Virtual Pitch Fest. I bought into it, $50, $10 a pitch. You send out your pitch letter to any Hollywood producer signed up for it, and there are some real names included such as a guy that's doing The Hobbit, among other things. But the reason it costs $10 a pitch is because you are guaranteed a response. If you've never tried to get a script read in Hollywood without a big success already behind you, you've no idea how invaluable that is. Hollywood sits on piles of would be screenplay writers, mountains of paper sitting under them that, considering some of the movies they do put out, must be awful drek almost to a T. That "almost" is where I come in of course, I'm utterly confident I've got a great movie written, and just getting a chance to get through at least a little of the mountain of drek is more than worth $10 a pop. I'm just terrified of another response in the manner of a form letter. But hell, if it was easy it wouldn't pay out six to seven figures now would it?
  10. Gone Home from The Fullbright Company

I just started playing, and it's really not supposed to be an extremely dim unlit mess at the beginning is it? I started off thinking there was something wrong with my drivers, everything was pitch black except the trees outside the entry room. I updated my drivers, and started again, still nothing. I turned up the brightness until I could see that there was at least SOMETHING to see, and I turned on a lamp to find it produced, nothing. No light. I'm playing on an Intel HD 4000. Steve if you're reading this get a patch out, or something, I want to play!
  11. Maximum disappointment confirmed - Prey gets a sequel

It's not a justification. None of you give a single reason not to pirate a game I might be interested in enjoying but not in rewarding people for. Not one logical reason. You're basing your entire assumption on how you "Feel about it" which is just opposed to how I feel. I don't think anyone at Bethesda deserves a reward for ripping a game off a studio that worked hard developing it, and was then held hostage. You on the other hand don't seem to give a shit. You don't care that a ton of people may have lost their jobs, you just want to feel good about yourself when you play a video game. You want to feel like your conforming to societal views, or rewarding someone who did their best even if it's for fucked up reason, or whatever your justification. I'm not proposing hurting anyone and you hate me for it, and you are proposing rewarding people for hurting others, and you give no argument otherwise. I fail to see the outrage here.

Pain and Gain: This might be the best movie Michael Bay has ever done. Probably because it's not really an action movie. Oh sure, there's like, a gun or two that goes off. But nothing SUPER over the top or drawn out or etc. It's based on a true story, and for the most part it kinda sticks to that. It's embellished, but mostly in the comedy factors. Not that it's a comedy, it's... Imagine a classic crime drama, Breaking Bad or Goodfellas or whatever, except the main criminals are complete and utter idiots. And yet at the same you kind of feel bad for these idiots, you get where they're coming from and why they're doing what they do. It's easily Bay's best directed movie,
  13. Maximum disappointment confirmed - Prey gets a sequel

So, if I'm not going to pay for it, you're thesis is I shouldn't use it. Why? I said I'm not paying for it. I know I'm not. I'm not harming the producer of the good, I'm only helping myself by using it anyway. It's a fundamental paradox between our capitalistic society and post scarcity, I know. But that's really, really the way it works. You can go to the piratebay right now, download photoshop, and use it, and if you weren't going to pay for photoshop ever then Adobe's bottom line isn't affected either way.
  14. Maximum disappointment confirmed - Prey gets a sequel

There's got to be a reason a ton of people, including John Carmack and Todd Hollenshead left Id. Why not pirate the game? That's what I'd do. I like putting my money where my mouth is, I refuse to buy games made by really shitty practices and have funded kickstarters and bought games just because people seemed really passionate or consumer friendly. I never played Sins of a Solar Empire (I know, it's great right?) but I bought it at launch simply because I might have liked it and they refused to include DRM.
  15. GTA V

I'm not sure they care, though I know they've got at least one guy porting GTA V over so it may be up to that guy. There's a million nobs and dials they could turn up, if they wanted too, without much trouble. Every headlight, tail light, and turn signal is an actual light? Done in a few days. Every streetlight is an actual light off into several kilometers of distance, and casts a shadow? Again, done in a few days. There's a thousand things like this, relatively little trouble, but the question is whether they care enough to do it. As for free to play, well they've already confirmed they've got no interest in it so far. It could potentially be successful for GTA Online, "purchase now for car/player customization!" Or whatever. But would it earn more money than getting people to pay for the actual game? It might not. Free to play is based around getting people to invest in a game they might not otherwise be interested in and hoping a small percentage will go nuts over your X in game purchases. DOTA and League have to do it because they've too much competition, you can't charge for DOTA 2 really because League is so similar and it's free, and vice versa + for all other LOMA's and MMO's and cheapo management sim games and etc. But GTA doesn't have competition, not really. Charging people $60 or whatever to play at all will probably earn them more money than going Free to Play ever will, at least in this case.
  16. Nextbox 1080: The Reckoning

The #1 reason I'd want an Xbone is more Fable. But a recent interview with Lionhead described their design decision making as "more plural" now (since Molyneux left). As in, design by committee. Which doesn't lead to any good games I've ever seen, when Will Wright made the Sims and the Sims 2 he got together with one other designer and they told the rest of the team "ok, this is what your doing." On the other hand, stuff like Dragon Age 2 and Spore were more "Committee" like, and well... yeah. I'll wait for previews, but it's not looking good. Sorry M1cr0$oft, but doesn't look like I'm paying for your shit no matter what you do so far.
  17. GTA V

    Noooo it's G2S R 9L.

Hey, back the fuck off the venerable semi-colon you illiterate and illegible sophomoric ingrate
  19. DOTA 2

I don't want to play Pro, even though I've been called pro, I don't how much better the Pros are, and I don't care. I'm just frustrated the game runs out of fun for me before I'm ready to put it down. Every other game I played for a long time I felt ready to put down when I did stop playing it, DOTA 2 is the only one that feels like there's nothing more to offer even though I want it to offer more. That's the only thing I'm really trying to explain.
  20. Movie/TV recommendations

    It's called Cars, too easy
  21. DOTA 2

Ha! Nooo, not at all. Let me explain. I'm usually the highest ranked on my team whether we win OR lose. So I'm playing my best but it doesn't feel like it matters one way or another. And since I've learned how to play around a fourth of all the characters already there isn't anything particularly new to learn. Every game goes how I can see it going. Every game that my team is losing can and lately has been turned around if people follow what I say, or is lost when people don't. Not that I give advice unless we're really losing, but that's the way it's worked out for the last thirty+ games. I'm not bad, I'm too good. I'm bored. One recent game, captain's pick, I got saddled with Luna, a character I didn't choose out of six I offered to play. I was highest level on any team almost the entire time, killed nigh as many creeps as the rest of my team combined, and by the end I'd maxed on level AND items; again. Literally maxed, I had 5 items worth 5,000+ gold each, power boots, and several thousand gold saved up. But no, my team wouldn't attack, they just had to wait for their Lifestealer to get Divine Rapier to win. Of course when I finally got them to go for it I was able to demolish the enemy in about a minute single handedly thanks to Satanic, Lincon Sphere, Mjolnir, Butterfly, and I can't remember the last one. Point being, I just feel like I've seen it all, everything. I've faced every hero in the game except the handful people just NEVER play both as allies and enemies. I've seen every scenario played out, I've got 250 hours clocked, and I know others have clocked far more, and I've done far more on other games. But as much as I don't want to be I'm done with DOTA 2. And I know 250 hours if far more value than I could ever hope for out of a free game, Valve rules, the original DOTA guy hit gold. But it's also frustrating, because its the only game I've clocked so much time in that just abruptly ends in value for me. It's too binary, too predictable. You could play Forza, or Civilization, or Smash Bros, or Counterstrike forever and ever and ever without feeling like you've "seen absolutely everything." But for the last 50 hours of DOTA 2 that's how I felt, and I just kept playing hoping I was wrong, like I did when I downloaded it this last time. But it's gone again, and I know I'm probably not wrong. At least it's only about a month till GTA V and the start of the years end video game releases.

I didn't say Finding Nemo was original in its main theme, just that it was superbly well edited. I was just pointing out that Ratatouille and Up aren't weird or original at all really. You've confused the argument.
  23. Movie/TV recommendations

The story is too slow, there are entire sections that could have been cut out without the story changing a jot. And I don't think Brad Pitt ever just plays "Blank: Brad Pitt" in fact I thought he was the most amazing thing in it by far. Has Pitt ever even played a Gangster? Yes, in The Assassination of Jesse James, and he was completely different in that movie from this. Nor can I really can't see his detective from Se7en, or Benjamin Button, or his concerned father from World War Z in Killing Them Softly. The most I can say I see in common is Tyler Durden, but they're both a kind of murdering psychopaths and I suppose there's only so many you can play without overlap coming eventually.

: ( Wall-E is my second favorite Pixar movie, and I think your over expecting of the Incredibles. Really enjoyed it the first and second times, just rewatched it for the first time in years a week ago and it was still good. Not sure what you mean by that though, I mean some people do pedestal the hell out of it which is overboard for me. Also wtf Patrick? Finding Nemo is brilliance incarnate, the second best edited movie in history after Star Wars: A New Hope. Up and Ratatouille are two of Pixar's most conventional movies. A movie about following your dreams and having them come true combined with intelligent animals is about as least weird as you can get. And while Up has some unique aspects, shoving a paltry story about having an unfulfilled life and not having children is about as dead cliche as you can get. I mean, like them away but their themes are far from unique and the same goes with their humor.
