I think it's perfectly okay to explore why you don't like something as much as why you do like something. You wouldn't go around criticizing people for saying something's good because they like it, would you? Let people talk about what they want, stop trying to railroad the content of the discussion.

Why the hell do people still ban hotlinking? Does a fifty-kilobyte file break the bank like it did when dial-up was king?

I'm beginning to get a Bioshock Infinite vibe from the history of the Star Wars. There is always a franchise and a ruiner.

Not news. Everything's always been totally ripping off Astro Boy.

Microsoft's mission statement in a nutshell.

No, Zeusthecat. It means we've confined your peen to this thread, maybe. Probably not. I was born pigeon-toed in my right foot, actually. My parents didn't fix it because I'd have to wear a leg brace for a long time, I think? I wish they had. I was an awkward kid anyway and now, every pair of shoes I own, I wear out the right long before the left. The only upside is that I have a crazy range of motion with my right foot, almost a hundred eighty degrees of rotation. I don't have it, I don't think. The color profile is almost identical with both eyes, but since I am literally blind without corrective lenses, maybe I just can't notice it? I favor my right eye a lot. I favor my right everything. I'd written out a scar list like Tegan, but it was just a litany of accidents inflicted on my dominant arm.

For me it was the sound that drove it home, especially how totally mundane noises can be majestic or earth-shattering when you're tiny.

Moving guys react to enemies slower than still guys. Still trumps moving, crouching trumps standing, cover trumps no cover, facing trumps not facing. The guy who has more of these factors in his favor will win nine out of ten firefights. Not that I've ever been able to do them effectively myself.

Sometimes I sit down at my computer and feel frustration that I have so many games I want to play, when I ought to feel elation that I have so many games I want to play. Currently playing Bioshock 2: Minerva's Den DLC, Tropico 4, Monaco, Kerbal Space Program, and now Dark Souls. Oh, and Crusader Kings II, now and forever.

Yeah, if you want really near-future hard sci-fi, you have Planetes, the first ninety minutes of Sunshine, scattered moments of various Mars movies, and a whole lot of novels. Unless you've got a month free to read Red Mars and its two sequels, Planetes is totally your best bet.

I remember that being the one moment in the game where the otherwise excellent interface fell flat. Instead of just being able to say, "No papers? Get out," it felt like filling out a surreal government form. Work Citation Issue: Cannot process applicant Reason: Applicant has no papers Evidence: Papers were requested, but desk is still empty (see rule 22.1a) Suggested Action: Kick applicant out of office

Hey, it protects the really important stuff, don't it?

Oh, it's just that Kirk had the flattest character arc ever in the first movie and, though Chris Pine's physicality was good, he didn't seem to bring much else to the table then. Not with Into Darkness, though.

Saw the latest Star Trek. The performances were great all around, even poor Chris Pine, but the plot was an anemic, underwritten mess. It just wouldn't end!

Idle Banter posts don't contribute to post count, though. He can talk all he wants here, so long as he doesn't mention games, books, or pods.

Idle Thumbs 106: Imagine the Man
Gormongous replied to Jake's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
Forget it, Nels. It's Chinatown. -
I didn't mind it when it was tied into the Steam Sale a couple years ago. You collected tickets doing dumb community stuff, which could be cashed in for mini-DLCs related to the sale. The tickets had a chance of being coupons too, maybe? It was fun enough, but I'm not sure about it going on all the time. Achievements are best (or least annoying) when the reward is intrinsic. We'll have to see.

Idle Thumbs 106: Imagine the Man
Gormongous replied to Jake's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
Every week, I hope that the theme song is the "ruined" version from episode 102, the one where Jake is making all the noises. -
Zeusthecat is Urkel, that's beyond a doubt.

Well, you've passed the test, fellow American. Please go about your business.

I watched that whole thing aghast. I was going to post something snarky after the first ten minutes about whether all the episodes are this nightmarish, but I soon got the answer: no, they aren't. It's just not possible. Amy's Baking Company is a real business run by real people. If they were willing to take a payout to let actors ruin their names and their future like that, I hope it was beaucoup bucks.

Yeah, I think one of the ugliest manifestations of my own unconscious sexism and racism is that everyone on this forum is American, white, and male to me, unless their username or avatar provides compelling evidence to the contrary. I spent the first three weeks reading Tegan's posts in a male voice until she mentioned some of her queer issues. Screeching halt, let me tell you. And all these foreigners lurking around, speaking English like they know it... Insidious, I tell you.

Yeah, I have a friend who's campaigning hard to get everyone playing it, but I can never him to elaborate beyond "It's everything bad about the eighties, all in one game!" I have begun to suspect that's the only appeal.

Or like me, you could come out of a showing of Side Effects at the Chase Park Plaza, run into John Adams, and refer to his opera as "Doctor Manhattan" within earshot. Maybe I just don't mix well with famous people. Or "Famous" Vanaman.

Yeah, same. I can brute-force some serious charisma if need be, but I have a long refractory period where I find myself disgusting and fake afterwards. I'd rather not.
