  1. Idle Explorers (Spelunky, um, thumbs)

I checked the video and I definitely shot the shopkeeper, but it didn't phase him
  2. Kentucky Route Zero

I finished Act 3 last night. Great stuff. I think the only knock against it I have is that driving around the map gets a bit tedious after a while. I'll put my thoughts in spoiler tags I guess.
  3. Idle Explorers (Spelunky, um, thumbs)

    Bleh
  4. Idle Sugar

I think Hershey's finally got wise and put out some chocolate spread earlier this year. Haven't tried it though. And maybe some assuredly garbage store brands exist, but c'mon. I spent a summer in France years ago and I remember the big grocery store I went to had chocolate spreads out the wazoo, including kilo sized jars of Nutella (lord help me). Peanut butter, meanwhile, was hidden away in a corner of the international foods section.
  5. Movie/TV recommendations

Seriously Deadwood is so good. Great writing, (mostly) great characters, and an interesting setting. It can take some time to get comfortable with its style of prose, but it's worth it. I'll never forgive those limber-dicked cocksuckers at HBO for cancelling it.
  6. Kentucky Route Zero

I was expecting this to be like the Half Life 3 thread where every bump just leads to a broken heart, but instead I got the real deal and now I'm fucking pumped.
  7. Net Neutrality

Well that didn't take long: http://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2014/05/level-3-claims-six-isps-dropping-packets-every-day-over-money-disputes/
  8. Idle Explorers (Spelunky, um, thumbs)

I don't think the scepter melts. If you had blown up the lava pit it would have still been in there.
  9. Idle Sugar

I really like dried mango. It's like fruit jerky. Gotta get the unsweetened kind though...as if mango isn't sweet enough on its own so it needs to be further coated in sugar.
  10. Idle Explorers (Spelunky, um, thumbs)

Two days in one! One death in the Mothership: And one death by old age (but also one death by landmine, so no Hell):

  12. Net Neutrality

Yeah I probably have some of my terminology mixed up. I thought Netflix was now paying to connect directly to Comcast's network instead of having to go through some other higher tier networks, the links to which Comcast was essentially refusing to upgrade, so it's more of a peering thing in this case than premium service?
  13. Net Neutrality

What I love is that it actually disincentivizes last mile providers like Comcast from actually upgrading their infrastructure. They already oversubscribe their networks (I buy a 30Mbps link, but when I try and stream something from Netflix, I still get buffering because Comcast's shitty network gets congested), then they put Netflix in a position where they have to pay up to keep their subscribers happy via a direct peering agreement, bypassing the congestion. So now Comcast is collecting money on both ends. If they actually had a connection to the rest of the Internet that could handle what it's supposed to (ie what I pay for in the first place damn it), they'd lose out on that sweet Netflix money. And since there's literally no other way for me to get high speed Internet from anyone else, I can't even quit their shitty service for someone else! What's that you say? The current FCC chairman is a former top lobbyist for the cable industry? You don't say. It's all very disheartening...
  14. The threat of Big Dog

Yeah, 10 years ago it was a big deal for Asimo to be able to walk. Now it can do things like hop on one foot and kick soccer balls at world leaders. Not trivial stuff to implement. Does anyone know if it can get up on its own if it falls over or does it need people to upright it? I feel like that's the final step in my nightmares being realized.
  15. Idle Explorers (Spelunky, um, thumbs)

I was crushing it, and then, suddenly, I was being crushed...
  16. Idle Explorers (Spelunky, um, thumbs)

    Piece of cake.
  17. InFAMOUS Vanaman

Yeah I liked the first game alright. Never played the 2nd. Sounds like a game to wait for on sale if there ever was one. Also, weirdly relevant post from Joystiq today on the morality system: http://www.joystiq.com/2014/04/25/the-guilty-pleasures-of-infamous-second-son/
  18. InFAMOUS Vanaman

I haven't played this yet but it's so weird to hear how the karma system hasn't evolved at all from the first game. It was terrible then and it sounds like it's terrible now. In Infamous 1 (1nfamous!?) I remember a choice that was something like "do you want to feed the innocent people or MURDER THEM!?!?!" Come on guys...you can do better than that. And it was the same problem then of it not being feasible to alternate good and bad choices, as the game drove you to min/max one or the other to get all the unlocks on that skill tree. Two games later and they haven't changed it at all...weird. Mington, would you ultimately say you'd recommend the game? Sounds like a pretty mixed bag.
  19. Idle Explorers (Spelunky, um, thumbs)

Today I played a game of quick draw with a Tiki Trap and lost. Also, thanks FuryBoy...it's good to know our suffering is appreciated.
  20. Idle Explorers (Spelunky, um, thumbs)

Lost the Ankh in the Ice Caves but did manage to beat Olmec.
  21. Idle Explorers (Spelunky, um, thumbs)

Won't have a chance to do the 23rd, but here's the 22nd. Missed the black market, then fell into the great abyss of the ice caves.
  22. Life

Yeah, even after i started eating pork I didn't really get the big deal. Everyone knows the best pizza is jalapeno and *********. Bacon is similarly overrated. Edit: this forum censors pine-apple???
  23. Life

When I was younger I kept kosher and I'd always get comments like "I can't imagine eating pizza without peperoni!" or "I'd die if I couldn't eat shrimp anymore". It didn't take long for me to get so tired of that and the ensuing conversation so I can imagine your frustration, especially since relative to veganism keeping kosher is pretty lax (depending on your level of observance). That being said, if you really think it's the right dietary choice, then fuck the haters, especially since it doesn't sound like you come off like an ass when you explain yourself.
  24. Idle Explorers (Spelunky, um, thumbs)

Decided to go to the mothership for whatever reason and that was the end of that...
  25. Idle Explorers (Spelunky, um, thumbs)

Completely missed the Black Market, but did manage to bumble my way through beating Olmec. Really the entire Temple section was nothing but lucky breaks.
