David Lynch's Josh Brolin's Campo Santo's Fire Watch With Me: A Motion Picture Event
Professor Video Games replied to TychoCelchuuu's topic in Video Gaming
Preorder the Arson Edition of Firewatch today to get Henry's iconic walkie-talkie. -
That Ashes game is hilarious because not only was it removed from Steam, they actually cancelled the game after it had been released. That Giant Bomb quick look is pretty funny. Don't expect to learn much about cricket though...

I would pay money for either of these Filthy Batman costumes to be available in the next game.

On a brighter note, there's a woman on Jeopardy right now who's got a 16-game win streak going for something over $300k so far. Third most all time (both in consecutive wins and dollars) and the winningest woman in Jeopardy history. That belongs in this thread right? Whatever, it's pretty cool!

Counterpoint: why be smart when you can be unstoppable?

After playing through some downer zombie games (new Walking Dead ep, Last of Us), I felt like playing something that's a bit more relaxed, so I played through Riven over the weekend which I had picked up in some recent sale. I mean it's a Myst game so there's not really much to say about it, and the only reason I mention it is that it's got a number system puzzle that's nearly identical to the one in Fez, though deciphering it is a little more straightforward here. I'm curious if the similarity was deliberate or not.

Idle Explorers (Spelunky, um, thumbs)
Professor Video Games replied to Irishjohn's topic in Multiplayer Networking
Two days in a row! Probably going to limit these to the weekends from here on out. Anyway, I died like an idiot vs. Olmec. -
Yeah Lulu is definitely fictional. The real world exhibition was done by the game's developers (see this article for example). I wish I could have checked it out though. In this post from the previous page, prettyunsmart linked to a couple articles that go into the insanely numerous inspirational underpinnings of a lot of the games elements (including Lulu's name). Be prepared to feel embarrassingly uncultured after reading though.

Idle Thumbs 159: Wilson's Ghoulish Countenance
Professor Video Games replied to Jake's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
I'm really hoping the Watch_Dogs protagonist defensively refers to his own cap as iconic after other characters call him out on it being lame. -

Far Cry 4: A grenade rolls down everest
Professor Video Games replied to Boris Stoke's topic in Video Gaming
That original image they released was supposed to be the box art right? Because after reading through this thread (good grief) I went to the Far Cry 4 site out of curiosity and I guess they changed it to remove the dude with the grenade? He's also not propping his foot on the statue's head anymore, though I still think the image is kinda shitty in that regard. If the rumor of the protagonist being Indian turns out to be true, I think Ubisoft missed an opportunity there by not putting him or her (haha right) on the cover instead of this cartoon villain guy who appears ethnically a bit ambiguous to say the least. How often do bad guys get the cover anyway really? I mean to be fair, Far Cry 3 did the same thing, but I think it would have been cool of them to go the other way. -
List of things that must be in blah

Oh, there's more... http://forums.2k.com/showthread.php?175716-PC-features-that-must-be-added-to-the-PC-version-of-BioShock-Infinite This is a 12-year old kid right? -
Haha yeah I know there's more to it than my glancing through the Wikipedia page will teach me, but it gives me enough knowledge to mess with my Indian coworkers and say cricket is just baseball with two bases, no balls and strikes, and games that last a week for some reason

Yeah I'm a cord cutter as well and the Braves recently signed a deal to put all their games on Fox Sports South. They currently broadcast some percent on a local OTA station, but when that's gone I'll just never get to watch any games. Not that I'll be missing much when they struggle to score even two runs in a game... I looked into the rules of cricket once and it just struck me as a dumbed down/boring version of baseball. YEAH I WENT THERE.

Just finished The Last of Us. Overall I liked it quite a bit. Visually the stuff they are pulling off with the PS3 is amazing and the amount of unique artwork in that game is insane. I can't even imagine how many man-hours went into making all that content. I really liked how they did the stealth combat though I'd say it's not well introduced so it took time to get into the swing of things. And I would say several of the combat scenarios just had too many guys...it made Joel into too much of a one man army. I'd type up more but I'm on my phone and it's annoying. I think the last thing I'll say is I wish they had dialed back on the collectibles...felt too video gamey for the tone they were going for. Oh and there must have been at least five "how ya holding ups" in it so thanks for ruining that for me Sean

How much do I have to pay to be able to type video games as one word?

Here's my real advice. Every time a company interviews you and rejects you, hold a grudge against them forever.
-
I don't think a positive attitude is as important as confidence and good communication. I was technically underqualified for my current job, but my interviewers could see what I should know based on my resume, and they asked questions based on that. So assuming the answers to their questions are somewhere in your brain, explain yourself and your thinking clearly and if you need to ask questions, don't feel embarrassed to. A good interviewer will be patient if your stressing out a bit. I'm in hardware engineering, not software, but I think the point of the interview is roughly the same...they want to see how you think and solve problems and how you would be to work with. If they thought you couldn't handle the job based on qualifications, you wouldn't have gotten the call in the first place.

Though Valve does not attend E3, they simultaneously announce and release HL3 during either Microsoft or Sony's press conference.

Isn't that how Zoidberg says it on Futurama? Edit: Also Zues your wife is right, they don't look very similar.

I think my plan for whipping Anubis II to death would have worked if I hadn't stepped out on the ledge so far -
Science doesn't suck but there's a kind of self-righteous attitude about it that's started cropping up lately that certainly does (suck). Back on TV...I'm slowly/finally getting through the first season of House of Cards. It's good but it's maybe a bit more cynical than I think I'm in the mood for, and the impression I get is that the second season goes a bit off the rails plot-wise. I'll probably stick with it though. And speaking of cynicism, if they wanted to accurately show life as a congressman, it would be 90% scenes of Frank Underwood either attending fundraisers or on the phone asking for campaign contributions.

The Business Side of Video (Space) Games EXCLUSIVELY ON IDLE THUMBS
Professor Video Games replied to Henroid's topic in Video Gaming
Regarding the Kinect, I think they went overboard with what the capabilities really should have been in the first place. The Wii sales crash should have made them realize that the whole motion control thing wasn't going to be a selling point (and doesn't make for many good games) and the Kinect never really demonstrated why it was worth $100. The most important features don't require all that fancy hardware. Just give the thing a mic or two for voice commands, and a decent camera for video streaming and maybe facial recognition. Personally I would have been ok with an extra $25-$50 for that. Instead they stuck people with a $100 device that can see my pulse and track up to 8 (or whatever) skeletons simultaneously...pass. -
The Business Side of Video (Space) Games EXCLUSIVELY ON IDLE THUMBS
Professor Video Games replied to Henroid's topic in Video Gaming
So Microsoft is going to start selling a Kinect-less system. This is crazy right? Wasn't their entire UI built around that thing? It basically means the Kinect is dead as there's not really a compelling reason to get one, and now Microsoft is left with a console that's the same price as the PS4 but from what I understand, less powerful. And the PS4 is already the popular choice. Sales numbers aside, this console has been a total disaster from the start. Good grief.
