  1. Books, books, books...

Haha now that you mention it, I never read anything else by him after finishing that one either...
  2. Damn it, but computers have become really complicated

You're not having overheating issues are you?
  3. General Video Game Deals Thread

I think there's some lady in a brothel under a bar or something you can sleep with? Regarding the game thing in the sale, my plan will be the same as the last one: do community votes for trading cards and sell them for big money ($0.20 or whatever)
  4. Sports

It's amazing how poorly Spain played in their game against Chile. If they keep playing like that I'd say Australia has a good chance of ending up with the win. Before this started who would have thought there was even a remote chance Spain would leave the World Cup winless?
  5. Half-Life 3

Jeez save it for the Ricochet 2 thread guys. I'm trying to get some important and totally real Half Life 3 news here.
  6. Idle Thumbs Criterion Film Club?

I need peer pressure to make me do things, so I'd be in.
  7. Books, books, books...

I read that one years ago and also remember it dragging really, really badly in the middle. I can't remember details at this point, but I think it gets more interesting towards the end? I've knocked out a couple books recently. First was The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay by Michael Chabon, which was great. I wish I had the comic book chops to catch all of his golden age era name dropping but it's not necessary to enjoy the story at all, which has some really beautiful writing in it. Also it taught me about the existence of Bat Mite. Also I just finished Consider the Lobster by David Foster Wallace, which is a collection of essays that on the whole I really liked. I'd say I could use a few fewer footnotes in there, but then it wouldn't be DFW would it?
  8. Life

You realize the first stage is a round robin and not single elimination right?
  9. Jiff?

    Proof that power corrupts.
  10. Grim Fandango being remastered for PS4 and Vita

It was kind of mentioned in the latest podcast but what I'd love to see is commentary from Schafer et al. It would give me a good reason to go back through a game I've already played multiple times.
  11. The E3 Retrospectapalooza

Someone's friend whose uncle works at Nintendo, I'm sure.
  12. Jiff?

That argument is bogus. For example .bin stands for binary but nobody says it like that. NICE TRY STEVE.
  13. Far Cry 4: A grenade rolls down everest

In 30 Rock, the bumpkin character Kenneth is from Stone Mountain, Georgia. Stone Mountain practically a suburb of Atlanta, the least rural part of the entire state.
  14. The E3 Retrospectapalooza

Canvas Curse was awesome. I'm starting to get a WiiU itch...
  15. Far Cry 4: A grenade rolls down everest

I remember when Sleeping Dogs came out there were comments that the Cantonese in the game had a serious Canadian accent to it. In this case I wonder how difficult it is to find voice acting talent from such a specific region. Regardless, it's too bad they couldn't go the extra mile on that one, whatever the rationale.
  16. Lego is Still Cool

I loved Lego as a kid but don't mess with it much anymore. But I did buy the R2D2 set in a nostalgia fueled spending spree and it was really fun to build. The center leg is retractable and he's got a little sawblade and hacking tool hidden in his chest. Also you can spin the head around! Then I saw they made a Curiousity rover set and I got it to be the real life buddy of R2. Perfect cubicle decor. If only they were to the same scale...
  17. I Had A Random Thought...

Not really nerd community related, but I have an irrational hatred of sayings "living the dream" and "not gonna lie."
  18. Kentucky Route Zero

I found moving around the map a bit tedious at times but otherwise never had issues with the pacing. I do agree that the episodes work best spaced out. They are definitely not designed to be the kind of experience you binge on and benefit having time to think in between play sessions. Though the gap between episodes two and three was looooong. On the topic of the cards, I like them...a lot of the scenes are lit or composed a lot like a stage play, and the I feel like the text format really adds to it. Bjorn do you know about the two extra pieces of content the devs have released? There's Limits and Demonstrations, that I guess is best to play before episode 2, and The Entertainment which is a sort of interlude between eps 2 and 3. Both are free on their website and very much worth checking out.
  19. The threat of Watch Dogs

That video lost me at "No cheat codes"
  20. The E3 Retrospectapalooza

Uh, pretty sure it's spelled 2mb.
  21. Idle Thumbs 160: Die Übiverse

To be fair, he also says the games aren't literally connected and it's just for fun.
  22. Idle Food - Cooking!

Whoa I always assumed lox involved smoking, but apparently that's specifically novalox. Definitely adding it to my to-do list. Any idea how long it keeps in the fridge? I feel you on the beets. I made some beet-based veggie burgers recently and my kitchen was a purple disaster zone.
  23. The E3 Retrospectapalooza

The era of WoW clones is over. Now is the time of Lords Management clones.
  24. Life

    Family vacations truly are magical.
  25. Idle Thumbs 160: Die Übiverse

Oh this is fun. Watoad has a voice that isn't grating and he is actually helpful. Wabowser is the democratically elected and widely loved ruler of the wakoopas (who are also totally nice). Also he's a huge women's rights advocate.
