I think if Comcast hadn't idiotically started throttling Netflix in order to get them to cough up money for a direct peering deal, there would have been way less pressure for this to happen. It's such a highly visible maneuver that a bigger chunk of the public started taking notice of what net neutrality is really for and why it's important. It goes along with now clearly bone-headed move of Verizon suing over the old FCC neutrality rules, which resulted in the judge effectively forcing the FCC to do this Title II reclassification. These corporations seem to have absolutely zero foresight. Assuming this gets through the lawsuit blast that comes from Verizon and co., I'm hopeful it'll stick around. While I suppose the FCC could later revoke this, there'd have to be a good reason to avoid a public outcry (and corporate outcry from the big silicon valley players). I still want to see line unbundling, but that's a pipe-dream.

Idle Thumbs 196: Ode on a Grecian Hat Sale
Professor Video Games replied to Jake's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
I always liked these achievements because it was an easy way to see how far my friends had progressed in games we were both playing. I hate the notifications for them though. -
Damn it, but computers have become really complicated
Professor Video Games replied to Erkki's topic in Idle Banter
I've got a G700, which apparently is now replaced by the uglier G700s. I really like it because its removable USB cable is positioned in such a way as to allow you to switch from wired to wireless seamlessly. This was the main draw for me because it made it easy to bring the mouse over to my TV when I ran my PC to it. Features that I very rarely use include multiple profiles (per game or app or whatever) and buttons to adjust mouse sensitivity on the fly. -
Twin Peaks Rewatch 16: Drive With a Dead Girl
Professor Video Games replied to Jake's topic in Twin Peaks Rewatch Episodes
The podcast conversation reminded me about Invitation to Love, which I guess has been dropped in season 2? I need to know what happens! -
You are history's greatest monster

Finished Jazzpunk yesterday. It has some good visual gags, a great style, and some truly groan worthy puns (that's good), but man, I have never had a game give me motion sickness like this did. I played on PC and I think it's the narrow FOV? There's some annoying mouse smoothing which I turned off but that wasn't enough. I could play for one or maybe two hours before I had to stop and hit the couch. Good thing it's pretty short or this post would be in the quitters club thread.

Yeah I glanced through Kotaku when Patrick Klepek moved over there and it wasn't really what I was looking for. Maybe I'll just start my own news aggregator, Traqball. How hard could it be?

Yeah they are good listens. This sucks. What's a good Joystiq alternative for an industry news feed of sorts with minimal fluff stories? (obviously they must be ethical and unbiased)

Yeah in the grand scheme of things it's not a big deal, but it's fun to bring up . Now god only knows what sorts of financial maneuvering the individual teams do to avoid taxes, but it's probably no better/worse than any of our other giant corporations these days. And it's beside the point of them demanding help funding their stadiums when they are pulling in more money than ever. What I would love to see is a local government demand a share of tv revenue or something in exchange for help funding a stadium. Of course no team would ever agree to it but a man can dream.
-
One thing that continues to bother me about the NFL is how they repeatedly strong-arm broke-ass local governments to fork over hundreds of millions of dollars for new stadiums while keeping most or all the profits from tv deals and ticket sales, and paying relatively meager rents. And of course the NFL itself is a tax exempt nonprofit. And I mean not that it's limited to the NFL (the Braves just pulled this garbage in Atlanta) but the NFL is the most profitable for sure.

Grim Fandango being remastered for PS4 and Vita
Professor Video Games replied to Thrik's topic in Video Gaming
Well, it's a new release and *sigh* LucasArts no longer exists so from a legal perspective, they may not even be allowed to add the LucasArts logo. -
Ah, yeah I must have tuned a bit after he stormed off, because Jason was playing when I started watching. I did the picture of Garbage the band. I did see Brad snap at Dan about his continuing to take the game seriously and be competitive after I guess 3+ hours. I thought Brad was going to punch him.

That feature is essentially Dan conducting psychological torture on the rest of the staff. I only caught some of the end, but even Drew seemed to be getting a bit frazzled.

Finished Escape Goat 2 over the weekend (after having to replay a good chunk of levels when my save disappeared mysteriously). Overall it's a fun puzzle/platformer. You control a purple goat who can double jump and headbut stuff plus you have a little mouse dude who can run around the walls of the level to hit switches, trigger enemies, etc. Good difficulty curve and I rarely found myself getting frustrated. The only times I got annoyed were a few levels that required very precise timing in their execution, getting me into that scenario where I knew exactly what to do but had to spend another 20 retries to actually execute.

It's not everything. It's just that when games he doesn't like come up, he really goes out of his way to let everyone know how terrible they are (Majora's Mask, Destiny, anything involving Yoshi, etc), usually by yelling loudly "IT'S TERRIBLE" repeatedly. It's funny once, but this happens every single time and it gets really wearisome. Dibs, I'm pretty sure scalloped potatoes are just baked, not fried. At least that's how it is in AMERICA *does U-S-A chant*.

There's a bar in town that makes those and calls them potato rounds. They're awesome.

Idle Thumbs 195: Business Guys On Planes
Professor Video Games replied to Jake's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
I want a meets-meets-meets game jam. -
With a little salt drama's not so bad.

Some heartless jackass makes a fake Majora's Mask HD trailer because he hates me, specifically
Professor Video Games replied to Udvarnoky's topic in Video Gaming
I would play Ocarina first if only because it's more interesting to see how the characters get repurposed in Majora's Mask. -
The lack of film knowledge of any kind isn't surprising after he explained how he talked his way out of doing work in several classes. Aside from that, if I talked to a person with a film degree and they said they'd never seen Citizen Kane, I'd have more questions about the school they went to than the person themselves. My next question would definitely be about what movies they were required to watch. Gonna take this chance to say I'm probably done with the GBcast, which bums me out because I've listened since the site began. Surprisingly, it's mostly because of their game discussions. I've gotten tired of Jeff's negativity, Dan, insane/terrible persona aside, seems to have a vocabulary consisting of the words "super", "fun", and "cool" to describe why a game is good, and Brad seems to quit every game after an hour or two (except DOTA and Destiny) so these days he basically just echoes what I assume he sees in his Twitter feed with the preface "Now I haven't gotten that far into this but what I hear is <Internet stuff>". Drew, of course, is the best but is generally quiet. I'm hopeful the East Coast crew gets one together soon and that it's good. Also, Tegan, that drawing is great.

Is bathroom best common room to build a PC in?
Professor Video Games replied to Gaizokubanou's topic in Idle Banter
I tried building a pc in my bathroom but now it's full of user logs. There. -
Was your friend taking steroids or something? That's when I've heard of tendon issues like that. With those bench machines, because they are on rails there's a lot less balancing/control needed so I don't find feel like I get the same benefit as normal free lifts (bar or dumbbell). Better than nothing if you're at all unsure about the weight though and need a spot.
-
Mechanics are roughly the same. More oracles, some extra gorgons in the maze, and maybe some extra enemies at the last fight? Having good weapons certainly helps but probably isn't necessary. Being 30+ is the big thing because there's a big damage penalty (both dealth and received) when you are underleveled. Edit: Also no revives (per encounter), which is probably the toughest part

Grim Fandango being remastered for PS4 and Vita
Professor Video Games replied to Thrik's topic in Video Gaming
If they were going to make it free they would have held the launch until Feb and made it free immediately. As it is now, they would just piss everyone who bought it by having it for sale for like 4 days before making it free. I do think it will be a Plus game eventually, but not for several months at least. -
Most racks I use for squats have adjustable bars I can position in case I fail. Then I can just gracefully collapse in a heap and the bars will catch the weight (I've never had to actually do this though because I'm too big of a baby to really push myself to the limit).
