Regarding grounding, if you just touch the case every now and then you'll be fine. You don't have to touch anything sensitive to do this anyway. That guide is fine. It's a really simple procedure and all the connectors are keyed so it's practically impossible to plug the wrong things in. The big challenge is usually cable management. Also, considering that green light is on, be prepared for the possibility that the supply is ok and this is a motherboard/cpu issue (but hopefully not).

What was the rationale behind making the second season so much longer? The first season was short and was better for it. Was it just the popularity? Or maybe the question is actually why is the first season so short?

I don't know if there's been an increase in interest or not, but there's certainly a scene that's into mechanical watches that I would say comes from the same mental space as something like getting into vinyl. Quartz watches are better in just about every way, but the mechanisms involved in mechanical watches are really neat and there's something about technology that you can see/understand that is appealing (plus probably some backlash over the ever increasing pervasiveness of modern tech). And like JonCole said, at least with a normal watch it won't be obsolete in a year. Anyway, there are people that get way too into just about everything...watches, shoes, video game figurines...I wouldn't read too much into it. I've thought about getting a watch mainly because there are plenty of situations where I feel getting my phone out is rude, even if it's just to check the time. Of course now with smartwatches even looking at those is kinda no good.

I'm a little over halfway through the season and yeah I agree. It's got its share of jokes/scenes that miss the mark, but plenty more that work, and I enjoy most of the characters, esp Titus Andromedon (best name). If you're a 30 Rock fan I think it's worth watching. And I do agree that it's weird they still cut all the episodes to 23 minutes...there are a few plot arcs that felt rushed. You are on Netflix...be free!

It's not really allegorical, but The Swapper does a great job of merging it's puzzle gimmick (cloning yourself) and narrative. Worth checking out if you haven't played it. Anyway, happy 200, Thumbs. I think this podcast is the fucking bee's knees.

Assuming you're just playing solo stuff, the cost effective solution is to buy a long USB cable for $5 from monoprice or wherever for those fun/sad marathon sessions. One related accessory that I have and really like is a charging cradle. Instead of having to get out the cable when the battery is low (which for the PS4 is pretty often), I can just drop it on the dock whenever I'm not using the system. I think it was $20?

Yeah totally agree. Even if the game had turned out poorly (which it hasn't so far), the doc at least is really well done and insightful. If you're at all interested in how the sausage that is video games is made, it's worth checking out.

So is Half Life 3 out yet or what?

I watched a trailer for Helldivers and thought it looked like Magicka with guns (ie it's very easy to accidentally murder your friends). Then I found out it is from the same developer and it made more sense. I loved Magicaka, but these days I don't really have people to play a game like that with, so I'll probably end up passing on it. Looks fun though.

I've found LCD Soundsystem is killer running music.

I don't think Brad and Dan is generally a good quicklook combo. I have liked the last few Vinny/Alex ones though (Hand of Fate and Grow Home I think?). The last few Demo Derbies have also been great. They've pulled Jeff in and his encyclopedic knowledge of the industry history adds a lot plus it's fun to listen to him suffer through the really terrible and seemingly endless material on those discs.

For real man. Maybe I should just learn how to make a website, become a good writer, and make a replacement site myself. How hard could it be?

Oh you mean The Theory of Everything. Edit: To add some substance to this post, I saw Only Lovers Left Alive last night and thought it was great. A for reals good vampire movie, which is hard to come by these days.

While I agree in theory, the result would be few to no animated films getting any recognition whatever.

I started listening to Hardcore History and I really like it, but every time he reads a passage or quote, I can only hear the narrator for Wizard People, Dear Reader. This is both great and terrible.

Being a terrible person, I was curious to see a student body slam a college basketball player (ie a giant). Very disappointed
