  1. Rebirth on PC has a smoothing filter that you can toggle, but nothing that I've found reverts it to the old art style.

I think this was included mostly as a joke, because of how many people asked for the original art style.

Re: L4D vs L4D2, something that always bothered me is that the lack of melee weapons in L4D always felt like a deliberate decision, since all the weapons had a melee push thing anyway. But then L4D2 brought in swords and crowbars and whatnot seemingly just because that was something they could add.

  2. From what I've heard of Rebirth it starts out quite a bit easier but as you play it more and more stuff gets added, and every time you hit a new milestone it gets harder.  Pretty soon Mom is like the boss of level of 1.

One of the common complaints I heard about the original game was that, because of Wrath of the Lamb+other content updates, the game was much harder that it was on launch. New players who bought the game+expansion were having a really hard time, since expansion content was active immediately and couldn't be turned off. So in Rebirth some of the more difficult room/enemy layouts don't appear right away.

Chris was asking on the cast what the benefit of it being a new game was. As far as I know, the things that are different and wouldn't have been possible in flash are: 1) 60 fps (flash caps at 30), 2) reduced lag in crowded rooms (the flash version would lag even on fast machines), and 3) supposedly, as much new content as WotL (Edmund claimed the flash file wouldn't compile if they made it any larger than it already was). Another change that is really interesting to me is that items that effect your projectiles (like dr. fetus or brimstone) now stack in interesting ways rather than mostly overriding each other.

  3. No More Heroes' waggle was extremely goddamn satisfying,

I thought of No More Heroes as soon as I read the thread title. That game was Wii only for a while, and I assume that's partly because the waggle was practically a core feature.

  4. It seems like they've gone out of their way to make sure people realize the space minotaur thing is an actual game with depth to it and not just a weird pac-man clone, but eehhhhh, it's still kind of off-putting to me? The thing that really irks me about it isn't so much how it'll play, but the fact that it seems really thematically incongruous with everything else they've shown. Like, I kinda feel like the only reason it's an 80's arcade cabinet (as opposed to a magical closet or whatever) is because the devs grew up in the 80's and think 80's games are cool?

  5.

Not unlike Anita would like games to be rid of elements of sexism and bigotry, they want games to shed the burden of any social agenda

I feel like this runs into the criticism=censorship thing that seems so common among #gameboys. Anita isn't arguing for sexist games to be banned or whatever, she's just expressing that they are lame. I mean, I'm sure you already know that, but it's frustrating that they don't seem to.

What the fuck is your avatar.

    Edit: Oh I get it.

    Yesssss.

  6. ..."everyone's opinion of games and gamers drops back a decade until they're considered toys and the people that play them are children". But you know what? We were better off back then...

This opinion is so insane to me I am having a hard time accepting it. I guess they believe there are a fixed number of games that can exist? And so every time someone makes a game they don't want that's one fewer game for them? How does one arrive at this opinion?

  7. I'm curious to see what the final product ends up looking like. I've probably watched the kickstarter trailer ten times already, so I'll be surprised if it dosen't end up having something I'll find engaging.

I noticed in the video one of the locations is "Weaver's homestead" and I wonder if that's supposed to be a not to Kentucky Route Zero or if I'm just looking for things that aren't there because KR0 is The Best (seriously you guys, it's so good). The games don't seem to have a ton in common, but it looks like there are some stylistic similarities between them (again though, maybe that's just my KR0-colored glasses)

  8. I agree with tberton, Korra seasons 1 and 2 weren't very good, and absolutely had tons of arbitrary "drama". If season 4 had coma after those, I would agree that it would look like it was shaping up to be more of the same. But with season 3 they demonstrated they remembered how to make a good show again, so I'm cautiously optimistic about this season.
