Outsourced boss fights are still better than no boss fights. How disappointing would it be if the Fire Witch died in a cut scene?

- when you bypass a card (as with Femme Fatale) you don't trigger any "when you encounter" conditions on a piece of ice (no Tollbooth fee or Data Raven token)
Wait, is this actually true? Because the wording on the card seems to imply otherwise:
When you install Femme Fatale, choose an installed piece of ice. When you encounter that ice, you may spend 1 [Credits] per subroutine on that ice to bypass it.
How come you get one "when you encounter" trigger but not the other?
Edit: Nevermind, I checked the FAQ and it says
Bypassing prevents any unresolved conditional abilities that met their trigger condition when the ice was encountered from resolving.
Which is not how I expected that to work, but I guess that's why FAQ's exist. I just got this game, so I'm still trying to figure out how it works.

I'm pretty sure you don't have to have the beta client installed to play the new maps, you just have to check the "allow beta maps" in the options somewhere. As far as I can tell, the tf2 beta client is more or less an abandoned project at this point.

The Smissmas update was released today and it is pretty great. They added a new game mode that gives everyone a grappling hook and super powers. It is incredibly silly and I am having so much fun. Seriously you guys. Grappling hooks. It's awesome. Go play it.

I don't get it.
Whoville, like from How the Grinch Stole Christmas. Unless that wasn't the part you didn't get? I never claimed it was a good joke.
Also, I stuck some Christmas lights inside my already sweet Santa hat and it is immensely festive:

It isn't like broshooters are in any danger of going away though. Comparing it to Viking Metal Whatever doesn't make a ton of sense, since Viking Metal Whatever is not already one of the most popular genres of music.
-
I came up with a dumb Christmas joke, and this seemed like a good place to put it.
"Spicyness is measured on the Scoville scale, what is peppermintyness measured on?"
The Whoville scale
I should not be as proud of this joke as I am.

Honestly, my favorite album this year is Mouth Silence, maybe that means I should just not post in the thread.

I don't understand how that is a defensible position, but I guess gamergate does.

Some friends and I started a podcast where we ask our listeners ridiculous hypothetical questions such as "What is labor day's dark secret?" or "What would you replace your teeth with?". We then spend an hour exploring the consequences of the various answers we get and awarding our favorites with $100,000 imaginary dollars (or an imaginary prize of equal value). We have a lot of fun recording it, and I've had people tell me they enjoy listening to it, but I'm curious if it's funny to people who aren't already our friends.
We call it the $100,000 Podcast, you can check it out if you want. It would be fun to have more variety in the kinds of answers we get. If you do listen, I'd recommend the more recent episodes, some of our early ones were pretty rough. If you don't listen I guess that's cool too but I don't have any recommendations in that case.

Man, this thread tricked me into reading KotakuInAction again, and like every other time I've done that, it was a mistake. It just makes me sad about the world in a way that reading threads like this doesn't. I think it's seeing that people so genuinely believe things that are crazy, but with so much passion that I can see my 14-year-old self buying into it a little bit? Why do people have to be so shitty?

(From far away this looks like "No llamas" or "No goats," but when I look really close and see what it actually is, I have no idea what the fuck I'm looking at.
Ok so I don't know if anyone still cares about this dumb thing but I actually know what that is. It's a warning sign for an amusement park ride, a "keep arms inside at all times" sort of thing.

I haven't played Far Cry 4, so I can't comment on how he's portrayed in the story, but I will say that I immediately recognized him as asian. It wasn't until people started complaining that I realized he might be mistaken as white. Obviously that doesn't necessarily mean much, but it's made these discussions a little bit harder for me to follow.

Especially when I for some reason decided to read the Dota 2 subreddit because new update info today for the next hero and find a thread where everyone's like BBUBUBUT WHAT'S WRONG WITH SEXY and ugh fuck.
Yeah, that reddit thread was worse than I thought it would be. Like, there are a few people pointing out that the set has plenty of cool changes, and would still look good if they hadn't taken all her clothes off for some reason, but then all the responses are "it gave me a boner tho so it's k".

Initial designs for sonic in sonic boom:
It looks kinda like the Scout from TF2, doesn't it?

I just played Here And There Along The Echo, and it is kind of wonderful. The writing has the same poetic style as the main game, but voiced this time. Whoever did the voice work did a perfect job, too.
I suspect there is more going on here that most people realize. People in the steam discussions have found some easter eggs, and it seems like there are others yet to be found. In addition, the ebay auctuion for that weird phone ended a few days ago, and I wouldn't be surprised if there is something unusual in there.
The auction page implies more phones will be put on sale in the future, but as is typical with KR0, it is unclear where the fiction aligns with reality.

All of Futurama is on netflix in the US, although maybe it isn't elsewhere?
Also, as someone who has never watched The Simpsons, I find this thread surprisingly interesting.

Is the main character in this seriously names Hiro? This is worse than when I found out the main character in "Bones" was names Dr. Bones.

I believe one of the stated goals of the remake was to have a difficulty curve that is friendlier to new players than the original. More difficult room and enemy types are unlocked over time rather than being dumped on you all at once as soon as you install the expansion.

Oh hey, I remember playing that years ago. It was weird. I will have to give this version a shot.

Has anyone managed to beat the "solar system" challenge? I've gotten close a couple times, but man, it's a tough one.
-
I guess this looks pretty good? I don't think I really like the character designs though. I mean, it's cool that they aren't all white dudes, but they still seem kind of boring and generic to me. The giant monkey dude in SMNC at least had a cool suit and quoted Shakespeare.

Yeah, that HL2 ep2 was crazy. I watched a speedrun of that game years ago and it was cool to see how much more thoroughly it's been broken since then.
