Carving pumpkins is my favorite part of Halloween. I don't get too fancy with it, because to me, the interesting part in condensing an image to a silhouette that is both recognizable and structurally sound. I have not decided what I'm going to carve this year, does anyone here have an idea of something you'd want to see on a pumpkin?

The Idle Thumbs Lords Management Consortium - Dota 2, LoL, other Lords Managers unite
Cleinhun replied to Sean's topic in Multiplayer Networking
Some friends of mine played in an amateur tournament a few months ago, so they exist. Then again they're all way better than I am and took it reasonably seriously, I don't know what the average skill level really is. Actually, upon looking at http://amateurdota2league.com/ it seems they have signups for their season 5 in a few days, and as far as I can tell, it's open to anybody. If you have 4 friends and can afford the $1 entry fee maybe try that. If you don't have 4 friends I bet you could find 4 people on these forums who'd do it. -

I missed it because I, too, do not understand timezones. -
The ALL NEW Monday Night Multi-Thumbs RANDOMIZER

This sounds fun, I'll try and be there. -
That reddit thread is pretty nuts. people keep saying things like "we're just trying to have a conversation about journalism" and "zoe is practically a footnote at this point" but then every other post is about how quinn and sarkersian are liars who are manufacturing outrage for profit. How is it that there are so many people on board with this? And then there are posts like this one: which is basically chemtrail level craziness. How is this real life???

Season 3 fixed most of the problems I had with the first 2 seasons, while improving on the parts they did well. It's basically the show I hoped season 1 would be. The most important changes, at least as far as my enjoyment of the show is concerned, are A: They significantly turned town the obnoxious teen drama, so it feels like the characters are actually friends B: The antagonists have both reasonable motivations and character traits other than "evil" and C: Characters no longer speak exclusively in exposition. If you liked the idea of the show but felt let down by season 1 and/or 2, I think it's absolutely worth giving 3 a shot, they've really stepped up their game.

Super Smash Bros. (Spoiler: Snake Kills Ganondorf)

I assumed the reason waluigi isn't playable is that they thought they had enough mario universe characters. I'll be a little mad if if these leaks are accurate and we get idiot bowser jr instead. -
Idle Thumbs 170: Esophagus Sarcophagus

I became familiar with the word grok because Mark Rosewater (lead designer of Magic: the Gathering) used it all the time in his design columns. It always struck me as a useful word for talking about teaching game mechanics, but I don't think I've heard it used in any other context. -
Valve released an alpha version of the public mod/workshop tools for Dota 2 today. This is pretty cool on it's own, as it will allow for custom game modes and maps much more easily that before. What is potentially even more interesting, however, is that a user on reddit discovered that the tools themselves appear to be running Source 2 with Dota ported into it, which would explain why the system requirements are so high.

The fact that that video and much of the website are written in first person from the robot's perspective makes it so much worse. "I hope that humans and robots can learn to trust each other as a result of my journey"

world of thanks to extreme restraints. ...yeah, that's all I have to contribute.

The worst part of the TI4 finals was that VG picked the same losing strategy 3 games in a row. If they had played those games to completion they would have been just as boring but longer.

Help me forget about Olly Moss and move on with my life
Cleinhun replied to melmer's topic in Idle Banter
A friend of mine has a standing offer to give me $20 if I touch Chris Remo's hair and provide him with photographic evidence of it. This seems like the sort of thread where I should bring this up. -
Yes, that was what I was looking for, thanks.

Idle Thumbs 167: And That's Why Skeletons Fart That Way
Cleinhun replied to Jake's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
I was excited that .skeleton was a real TLD but according to this you are a liar. On the plus side, now I know that there is an official list of TLD's and it is hilarious. -
I don't think valve needs to chance the game for it to be more interesting for spectators, seeing as most of the games in the tournament were already good. Lords like Tidehunter Faceless and Enigma were all common picks outside of the 4 grand final games, and they all have flashy exciting teamfight abilities. I do not believe that final games were an inevitable result of the current game balance, they were just what those 2 teams happened to do.

What was the episode where the computer made that horrifying nightmare sound? I don't know how else to describe it.

JazzPunk - A Retro Spyberpunk Comedy Adventure

I'm not sure the gravy race is supposed to be beatable. at least I was never able to do it, and it seemed like the AI was designed to make perfect laps But then my friend beat it? ...But then a character said "that's not supposed to be possible" In conclusion: ????? -
Clash of the type-ins is a pretty cool cast where the hosts take an interactive fiction game and play it over skype with the author of the game. If you're someone like me who likes the idea of IF but lacks the cultural vocabulary these games assume, you should check it out. Plus, since they're playing with the authors, they can say "this puzzle is kinda bullshit, sorry. Here's how you get past it" instead of spending 30 minutes trying things/guessing which verb the game wants you to use. One of the hosts is also on Video Games Taco, which is cool if you're one of those people who is sad that VGtaco only uploads every three months. Anyway, it's neat, check it out.

I'm not sure if this is quite the right place to ask this, but I recorded a podcast with some friends of mine and we are looking for a place to host it. We've been using google drive, but that seems pretty sub-optimal. Does anyone know a good place to host a podcast that maybe 15 people will download?
-
According to this TI4 will have a separate stream and commentary aimed at newer players. I know this is a thing people have asked for and I think it's a really good idea, given how complicated this game is.

Somebody Please Explain This Scene From Transformers 4 To Me
Cleinhun replied to tegan's topic in Movies & Television
I just found out today that the main character in this movie is named Cade Yeager, which is pretty strange by itself, but now you are telling me that this is a real thing that happens? I mean, I haven't payed much attention to the Transformers movies since Transformers 2 took a dump directly into my eyeballs, but excuse me? What? What is happening?
