I read Diamond Age and then Snow Crash, because some friends recommended them, and then I read Cryptonomicon. It wasn't interest so much as boredom that spurred my reading the latter, but I would say it fundamentally altered my opinion of his works. When you read a 5-page summary of the theory behind Van-Eck Phreaking, juxtaposed with an essay concerning the foundations of sexuality, and you want more, then you're either a Stephenson fan or you're surfing Wikipedia.

My thinking is that the AH is for people who want to get to 60 and then find epic loot. This will also probably be the point when the smith becomes relevant, assuming there are epic blacksmith diagrams dropping in inferno.

Agreed. And they all look twice as cool at night. -

Those are wildly different locations! Edit: I may have missed his point completely. -
I used to see interviews with KG and Jim asking about why John seems so cold and bitter, and they would just laugh it off. He is a little hostile at times, but he blows everyone else out of the water when it comes to facing off critics-of-gaming-as-a-whole with objectivity and reason. As far as D3 goes, I'm enjoying the Hell out of it. Just checked out the AH for the first time, and now my DPS is huge. Should make the grind through normal a little less tedious. I don't understand why Blizzard continue to spend money on writers. Their dialogue and VO is beyond bad. It should have it's own genre.

Idle Thumbs Progresscast #12: The Progresscast Within

This was a great cast. I enjoy to hear things discussed and handled with a level of maturity that might surprise you. Makes me think of San Francisco as a Mecca of tolerance and decency, which is kind of the opposite of DC. -
I'm baffled by those decorations.

I played the open beta as well, and I'm scared now that this will be a game that I buy because of peer pressure and not because I actually like it.

I'm really trying hard to forget about this game until it's released. I was freaking out for months before DX3 came out, and that... did not live up to my expectations. I have enjoyed the heck out of Arkane's previous games though, so maybe I worry too much.

Hey everyone. Long-time fan, new-ish member here. I've posted a few times already, but I figured I'd introduce myself formally before the podcast gets back to being a regular thing. Video games, bird noise, JP theme, etc.

I use the bow to take out the armored guys. You've gotta drop them first anyway, so might as well do it with a weapon that doesn't scare the others.

The Idle Thumbs Podcast Episode 13: Day One Perch

Has anyone sampled the "I don't play games" from 1:17:09 yet? I can see it being useful in several ways. -
I've been playing it, and it is very much like Uncharted meets Silent Hill. The story's not too engrossing, but the mechanics are great. Every gunfight is basically a puzzle to be solved. Climbing is solid and well paced. The stamina bar adds a layer of drama that makes you feel like you have to scrounge for every little thing. It's just very well balanced and an interesting world to explore. And it's only $15.
