  1. So I saw there's actually a rom hack for X and Y called Neo X/Y that just makes it harder and I think it basically does what you suggested. I don't have a hacked 3ds or emulator so I can't check it out, but reading the description it actually does sound a lot better than the actual game. I actually kind of do wish Nintendo would do something like this, though I really don't think they will.

  2. I think we're the exact opposite. I don't care about anything in the game for the most part besides online battles. If I could just not play the game and just skip to the battles I would (and pretty much do as the last time I was into Pokemon I spent more time playing on online battling software). That being said my interest in Pokemon peaked in Pearl/Soul Silver, though I liked X/Y.

What would a harder difficulty change? Would it mean just a smarter AI because I think without changing the Pokemon every trainer has to a balanced lineup it's still going to be easy. I mean the idea of gyms having Pokemon of all the same type is basically always going to be simple to beat.

  3. So I hadn't even heard of this until yesterday but it's pretty much a Harvest Moon-alike and it looks super cool. I really liked the old Harvest Moon games, but haven't been a fan of anything that's come out in the past 10 years or so (though I haven't played all of them, maybe some are good). This looks cool though. Has anyone played it yet? I'll probably pick it up and give it a go when I have some free time.

  4. I mean if you enjoy them doing their straight up comedy movies (like Ladykillers) then you'll probably (maybe) like this one, but those just never seem to work for me as much as I do love the Coen brothers.

I also just felt that the movie was pretty incoherent, like there were a lot of separate scenes that never came together to form a movie.

  5. There are things like The Golem's Mighty Swing by James Sturm which is about a Jewish baseball team, or Essex County by Jeff Lemire which had a lot of hockey going on especially in the second act. Or Southern Bastards by Jason Aaron which is about football kind of, but like Essex County it's really more of a character piece than a sports piece. As far as regular serialized weekly/monthly stories about sports I don't know of any, those types of books existed for sure, but not for a while.

The Comics Journal did an interview a few days ago with Sloane Leong about sports and comics, I found it to be an interesting read.

  6. So I was never a huge John Scott fan, even when he played for the Sharks last season, but after following the drama around him with the NHL all star game and reading what he's said/written I got a lot of respect for him.

  7. It just seemed a lot less tight than the first season. I guess I probably was comparing it more directly to season 1 than I should have. Season 3 has a much wider scope which means less time spent on each of the individual plot lines which made it seem slow to me and I lost interest in some of the threads. I guess it was just going from season 1 where there's basically just the police and then the Barksdale crew, or season 2 where it's mostly just the police and the docks witch the prison stuff on the side. There are some specific things that I wasn't a huge fan of like how it seemed like every single character was having an affair and also with the writing it started to stand out to me how everyone sort of talks in anecdotes. I didn't hate the season by any means, I just really loved it when I first saw it and didn't this time. A lot of that might have just been binge watching the show as fast as I did.

Also Cuttys plot line I really liked. One of the things I missed was the super low level street stuff from Season 1 did showing young kids getting drawn into the game and Cutty was sort of the reverse of that.

  8. I'm through three seasons of The Wire and it's fantastic. I've been replaying the season ending montages on youtube all day.

I rewatched it not that long ago and I actually liked the second season a lot more than the first time I saw it. On the other hand I found the third season I originally considered one of the best and I was not a big fan of it the second time around. Nothing beats the first season for me though.

  9. I tried watching Ladykillers last week and had to stop before getting even a half hour in because I hated it so much. And for reference I love pretty much every Coen Brothers movie, except I'm in the small minority of people who don't care for the Big Lebowski.

My favorite is O, Brother, but I wouldn't argue that it's their best.

  10. So I saw Room, which I thought was good, but man the music was so bad. It was a lot of Thomas Newman style piano music basically just copying American Beauty and then randomly a song by This Will Destroy You that on top of not fitting was very heavily used in Moneyball already. It was also just so in cohesive and it felt like they never replaced their temp music.

  11. It depends what you mean/want. There's still a lot of good stuff coming out that's grounded and personal by publishers like Drawn & Quarterly or Fantagraphics or Top Shelf or Pantheon, but I don't know if those types of books are what you're looking for (I'm assuming not).
