  1. The battle one is nice until you get to the point where you can never actually battle for like a week.

I finally had my first battle in a couple weeks the other day which means that I won't be able to do anything in that game any time soon.

  2. I think I've played CQ on Halloween night the past 2-3 years and I almost have enough in my steam wallet from selling CSGO stuff to get #2 for free, but I haven't played the dlc for the first game yet so I might just play that instead and get 2 next year. I suppose I could always play the game on a day other than Halloween, but it would feel weird.

  3. The comic book focused spin-off of Book Riot went live recently at Panels.net and it's got a lot of cool people working on it so I figured I'd share it.  There isn't a lot at the moment as it just started this month, but they have a big list of contributors lined up and a lot of the names have me excited, plus the whole project is being run by Paul Montgomery who is a really cool dude.

  4. Everyone seems to really like Scooby-Doo Mystery Inc., but I remember watching an episode or two on Netflix and really being disappointed. Does it improve as it goes on? I'm reading about it on Netflix and I guess it has a long ongoing plot instead of just being a bunch of one-and-done episodes, which I hadn't realized.

  5. Yes, exactly that one. Is there another version of this story? I began suspecting what would happen close to end and was super bummed out to find out I was right. I just realized this is also my first Zatanna comic ever and the first Wonder Woman comic I've read in ages.

I believe that was an original story JMS came up with and has only ever been in that single issue. I really liked it and I normally don't like most things by JMS, comics or otherwise, but that issue was great.

Edit: regarding the Oni bundle, The Sixth Gun and Letter 44 are both great and are both on my list of books that I read monthly in issues which isn't very long. Stumptown also is a good detective book which makes since as it's by Greg Rucka. I think a third volume of it just started which I'll probably look into once it's collected. I haven't read any of the other books besides Scott Pilgrim/Lost at Sea

  6. I don't if this should be here or on the Feminism thread, but I decided to get ALL the Batgirl comics on sale and so far:

-In one comics the cops spend two panels staring at Batgirls ass.

-In another comic, Robin stare's at Batgirl's breasts!

-In the one I'm reading now Catwoman and Batgirl fought.... NAKED!

In a way, the scene made sense, because Selina is the kind of girl to go to a nude club and Barbara is the kind who never do this, but still, the real reason they did this is obvious...

Edit: I just read an issue of the Brave and The Bold that has Barabara Gordon right before becoming... The Oracle... Noooooo.... *sobs eternally*

Was that the girls nnight out issue with wonder woman and zatana I think, by JMS?

  7. I read Batgirl Year One a while ago and liked it, but I honestly don't remember anything about it other than the Marcos Martin art being fantastic like usual so that might not be a good sign for the actual story.

I haven't read the Batgirl Adventures book, but the Batman Adventures books were good, especially if you like the animated series as they were in the same style and by the same writers, like Paul Dini.

  8. The combat in Final Fantasy games hasn't been 'standard turn-based final fantasy' combat since FF9. FFX slowed combat down to make it much more tactical. FF11 and 14 are MMOs, so they run real-time with hotkeys. FF12 was real-time, with battles taking place without leaving the world. FF13 was semi-turn based built around changing classes in real time and had a strong emphasis on buffs and debuffs.

For that matter, describing Final Fantasy combat as 'standard turn-based' is a bit weird because the 'standard' is Dragon Quest, with no real-time elements. Are you referring to how there isn't a separate battle area?

I haven't played 13 so I didn't realize it was semi-real-time, from what I've seen of it it looked like the normal select your moves from a menu and then your party attacks. I thought they had just gone back to something more like the old games and was worried that that might also be the case in 15, but I guess I was wrong. I actually really liked the combat in 12 and it's my favorite post-ffvi game because of it. Also, for what it's worth I played FFXI and it was weird. It was trying really hard to simulate the feel of a normal Final Fantasy game so there weren't actually hotkeys like normal MMOs, you had to use a menu to select what you wanted to do from the usual stuff like "Attack" or "Magic" or "Items" and it would get queued up.

How was FFX different from the other games, I remember it being pretty much the same, but it's been a while since I played it.

  9. I started watching Static Shock after Milestone stuff was brought up in the comics thread. I think I'm liking it more than I did as a kid, and I really liked it as a kid. Also a lot of the more serious stuff like gang violence and the kids coming from low income single parent families seems a lot less in the background than I remember it being when I was little.

  10. Does anybody have any thoughts on the Humble Star Trek Comic Bundle?

Burden of Knowledge is good, other than that I'm not familiar with everything else. I wish the John Byrne stuff was in it, specifically Leonard McCoy: Frontier Doctor which is great. Also regarding Star Trek comics, I'm really excited to pick up the new City on the Edge of Forever book when it's done and collected.
