  1. Project Eternity, Obsidian's Isometric Fantasy RPG

To be fair, his version of cool includes tribal tattoos. Backing this, though I always liked Troika more then Obsidian (I still like Obsidian games) and this is out of love for Tim Cain.
  2. Idle Tongues (food before your mind goes elsewhere)

It's the bird spit, which is what the nests are made of. When they add it to water it turns into jelly, kind of.
  3. The Nintendo Wii U is Great Thread

I camped out overnight to get a Wii on launch day (I was in highschool and it was with a bunch of friends), but that was because there was a Zelda game and the Wii as a whole was a new thing at the time. This, I feel less compelled to buy. I'll probably buy a 3ds around Christmas, then maybe next year get a Wii U when there's more compelling games out.
  4. Idle Tongues (food before your mind goes elsewhere)

It's the Japanese version, as in it is NOT Iron Chef America, I hate that show and will never watch it. The episodes were the dubbed ones though, as opposed to the ones with subtitles. I don't ever watch competative cooking shows, but I've always loved Iron Chef. I just watch an episode where the ingredient was swallow's nest, it was cool and at the same time weird, because the ingredient was swallow's nest. They used a lot of it, I think they said it was $24k worth of swallow's nest, and then on top of the the commentator pointed out that those were wholesale prices and that at a resturaunt it would be closer to $100k to order dishes with that much swallow's nest. Yeah about the ramen, I'm pretty sure the resturaunt just wasn't very good. At some point I'm going to try and track down a good place.
  5. The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)

I've been listeing to a lot of Dredg recently (well I listen to them a fair amount, but even mroe so recently). They're a local band from around here in the San Jose/Los Gatos area, but I think at this point they're kind of big (relatively). They're playing two different shows at the end of December where they'll be playing two of their older albums in their entirety so I'm pretty stoked.
  6. The Binding of Isaac

I own this, I got it a while ago in some steam sale, but haven't played it. I even got the DLC in the summer sale this year (the only thing I got, I'm proud of that fact). I'll play it at some point, but for some reason jsut haven't gotten around to it.
  7. Idle Tongues (food before your mind goes elsewhere)

I don't know if this is the right place to put this, I may end up putting it in the Movies/TV thread at some point if I have more to say, but I've started watching Iron Chef again for the first time is probably close to 10 years and it's awesome. I also didn't realize how old it was (first season was '92 so 20 years ago). In the past two days I've watched maybe 10-12 episodes, which now that I think about it is a lot given that they're an hour (of television time) long. I found a site with divx player videos of a large amount of the episodes and I'll just scroll through the episode list looking at the ingredients and find one that looks cool, like mochi for example, and watch it. It's pretty addicting, I'll finish an episode and then see some other ingredient and wonder what they're going to make with it and have to watch another.
  8. Why are books so goddamn expensive?

I don't use the keyboard that much, but in pretty much every book I read I'll search for something at least once or twice, and even more if I'm reading something like sci-fi/fantasy wehre there's lots of people/places/things and a name get's dropped and I can't remember what it is. For that I use the keyboard and enjoy having real buttons over virtual ones, and the same goes for turning pages. Question: so when I read usualyl I'll follow along with my thumb under the words I'm reading, would this cause the touch screen Kindle to misbehave at all, swiping my finger across the screen under every row of text I read?
  9. Borderlands 2

I'm going to be getting a copy of it for going to the Gearbox panel at PAX last year (Randy gave everyone who went a card with a code to redeem the game), so I'll be playing it for sure. That being said, knowing I won't have to make a buying decision has made me not really care about following the game at all. I think I looked at the names of the playable characters, and I know there's a 5th class that is day 0 DLC (I think?), but that's it.
  10. Quitter's Club: Don't be ashamed to quit the game.

Some people might be okay with all of these Wood Elves walking around our streets, heck, some might even play as one, but I'll tell you what: it's just not the same Tamriel I grew up in.
  11. Why are books so goddamn expensive?

So there's new Kindles out now. They look pretty good, as in the screens, but I'd still rather have my older Kindle with the keyboard.
  12. Black Mesa Source?

What do I vote for it? I wouldn't pay for it if it were on Steam, isn't it a free mod? I don't really get Greenlight, is this the kind of thing that's supposed to be on it?
  13. Comics Extravaganza - Pow Bang Smash!

Yeah, I only read digital comics these days, for the most part at least. I actually bought a Nexus 7 for the sole purpose of reading comics.
  14. Quitter's Club: Don't be ashamed to quit the game.

I should probably mention that a lot of the time when I stop playing a game before I finish it I still feel like I've gotten my money's worth out of it at that point, even if it's still something I intend to still complete in the future. So a lot of the time not finishing a game isn't even a big loss for me.
  15. Guild Wars 2

Okay we're matched up with them in WvW now
  16. Quitter's Club: Don't be ashamed to quit the game.

My friend got Bioshock when it came out and just got around to beating it last Winter. He went 100% wrench build, witht he life steal and freeze on hit, and it ended up being incredibly strong. It also made the final boss even more absurd and disjointed in relation to the rest of the game. He literally walked up to the boss and held down the trigger and since he had freeze on hit, it just froze the boss and as soon as he became unfrozen he would get frozen again. It took a long time, but he didn't get hit once and he probably could have just taped his trigger down and not touched the controller.
  17. Movie/TV recommendations

I find that interesting. I didn't like 2 at all, though I thought the first movie was really good. Haven't seent he third and don't plan on seeing it. I just watched God Bless America, and the first 15 or so minutes were really good. The movie had so much potential. Then as soon as I realized that the percocious little girl was actually going to be a main character (I didn't see the cover of the movie) I realized it wasn't meant to be. The movie ended up being terrible (obviously this is just imo), the girl was so annoying I wanted to stop watching the movie so many times, but I was watching it with my parents and felt obligated to stay. It makes me mad how good it could have been and how they just made it so stupid.
  18. Guild Wars 2

My friend just bought the game from them because the digital copy was sold out on Amazon and through Arena Net (which is weird for a digital copy). Same experience, except for the part about getting the serial key.
  19. Comics Extravaganza - Pow Bang Smash!

I love Daytripper! Not much I can say that I haven't already said. I love Jeff Lemire. Anyways, so I'm pretty sure it hasn't been brought up yet and deffiniteley should. The Richard Stark's Parker books by Darwyne Cooke, who did DC: The New Frontier, which probably deserves it's own post and recomendation. So far I've only read the first book, there are two more out and a fourth in the works. It's good. Really good. The art, the writing, everything.
  20. Quitter's Club: Don't be ashamed to quit the game.

I usually dont "quit" games, but the percentage of games that I actually end up finishing is very small. The last game I remember finishing was Bastion back in December, and it was only 8ish hours long. Usually I'll get into the zone for a game and play it a lot for a few days straight, but sometyhing comes up and I don't play the game for a day, and once that cycle is broken the game is basically dead to me. A lot of times I'll think about coming back, but won't remember where I was in the game or what was going on so I'll decide I should probably just start over again if I wan't to play it, and some times I end up finishing the game, some times the same thing happens. Also a lot of times I'll get to the very end of games and either decide I want to finish side quests and I'll never end up finishing them so I never finish the game. When I played Wind Waker I got to the very very end of the game and decided I wanted to get every figurine, and I got a ton of them, but there were a couple that at that point it was impossible for me to get, so I haven't done the last boss fight. Some games I'll like so much that I'll get to the end and not want to actually finish it so I'll just leave it. That happens a lot with books for me, I'll like the book and read it super fast, but then get to the end and leave the last chapter or two. I also haven't watched the last episode of Seinfeld. Metro 2033 I got maybe 10 minutes in and then I heard Steve Blum's voice and instantly quit because I hate it so much, and on top of that he has a terrible fake accent and it makes it even worse. I'll probably play it at some point, with the full Russian audio, so I can avoid his voice.
  21. Guild Wars 2

I think ANet have made a point in stating that the game is the exact same at the max level, or at least they've said that in other MMOs the game that you play at max level is a different game that you play when you are leveling up, and that they are directly opposed to that philosophy and want the High level content to be the same as the low level content. I play very infrequently and am only level 30 so I don't know first hand how similar or different high level PvE is, though I have my suspicions.
  22. Black Mesa Source?

I've always been sort of un sure about how I feel about Black Mesa, in that I regularly re-play HL1, it's probably my favorite single player PC game ever, so I don't really care about how pretty it looks. If it's good I'll play Black Mesa, but probably only once and then if I re-play HL1 again I'll just play HL1.
  23. Guild Wars 2

Keep checking the server list (if your above issue gets fixed and you can log in again), if you try at off peak hours the server will probably only be high population, or at least thats how it was for me.
  24. At pub level it doesn't really matter, the same goes for super good heroes, there are some heroes that are super good, but at pub level the execution required for them to be super good isn't there, so they aren't any better than other heroes.
  25. Guild Wars 2

I'm assuming it's population based, as this server is full most of the time. Is Denravi the same? Hopefully things end up working out after the first round of WvWvW ends and servers are re-matched up.
