Do we really not already have a thread for this? If we do I'm an idiot, a blind idiot. If not, well, discuss Guild Wars 2 I'm going to play it, I already pre-purched it like a lot of people, but honestly I don't see it staying fun for that long. A lot of the things it's doing to make it different from other MMOs makes it are negatives, for me personally. If I didn't have a TON of real life friends playing it I probably wouldn't buy it, but I do and that's probably worth a hell of a lot more than anything else in an online multiplayer game. Edit: I should clarify, when I say there are things I don't like, I mean in an MMO. So for me Guild Wars 2 wont be an MMO, it'll just be a multiplayer game I play with a bunch of my friends when we're all online, and I'm sure I'll have a blast. I just won't spend the hours I spent in The early years of WoW or in EQ, and I won't care/stress about the game as much. Which isn't really a bad thing.

So my new policy with cosmetic items is that now as soon as I get an item I already have I delete it and hope it recycles. So far I've deleted three rares and haven't gotten a mythical, but I've gotten some uncommons and a rare.

First PC in 9 years; what should I play?
TheLastBaron replied to fausto higgins's topic in Video Gaming
Here's what you do. You install Steam and as sales happen you pick up games. Since you haven't had a PC for 9 years some of these games are at the point where they're old enough that for $5 or so you can get a whole series. You keep doing this and within a few months you'll have more than enough games to last you for 9 more years. -
I just got goosebumps.

I had 3 and gave one to one of my friends (we used to play HoN together, but he's been too busy for that and might be for Dota 2) and am saving the other 2 with the hope that I might be able to get a couple friends to switch from League. -

The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)

I never got into the first Periphery album and when I heard the first song from the second album the vocals just sounded too much like Linkin Park and I didn't listen to anything else on it. On the other hand the new HAARP Machine I love. I also liked The Safety Fire's album earlier this year is probably my favorite album so far in 2012. Regarding the Godspeed album, I finally got around to picking it up and have listened to it maybe 3 times through, but so far I haven't really gotten into it. I'll keep listening to it and maybe it will grow on me, but so far it hasn't really done anything for me. -

Hence he's a situational pick. Still he's no longer "widely considered one of the worst heroes in the game". -

I've seen Alch picked in competitive games so he's definitely considered viable now as he has the highest potential gpm of any hero, though he's still a situational pick. -
Depends, some items you use, some just give you stats or auras or the like. You can't use items form your stash though, that's just for holding items.

Hero Arena maps were pretty rad, and they didn't get left behind by TD and DotA maps, they just didn't get as big. Fight of Characters was always super popular though, as well as some others. I do hope at some point people can make custom maps for Dota 2 (maybe even be able to submit them to the workshop?) and it would be awesome if it sort of became like a new version of Wc3 in terms of the custom map community, since that's not going to happen in SC2. Also, a Dota 2 version of Darwin's Island or DBZ Tribute would be amazing. -

That hasn't been my experience at all, in the 10 or so games I've played people have been a lot better than in matchmaking, probably because whatever happens you get items anyways, and in the Rosh fight you are working together already. -

It's at least 1 item every game, and it's possible to get 3, so it seems really good if you're into cosmetic items. -

So yeah, here's a thread to discuss general things about music, be it theory or related to playing an instrument, or whatever. A few people were talking about picking up the guitar so I figured this might be a helpful thread to have. I have a decent level of understanding when it comes to theory and have been studying music at college for the past few years, and also have played bass and guitar for close to 10 years now so if people want to talk about stuff or ask questions feel free to ask and I (and probably other people in this forum) will be happy do help.

Yeah, they work on me and I hate them. It just feels way too cheap and dumb.

Day 9 played Slender on his stream this past Wednesday and I really enjoyed watching it, but normally I hate scary games. Well I don't hate them per se, I just don't ever play them because I don't enjoy scary things. I don't watch scary movies either, well I don't watch "horror" movies, I'll watch psychological thrillers. I have Amnesia from the Potato Sack, but I've never played it. The only scary game I've played was the one time I did boot up Amnesia to play the Justine DLC to get the achievement for the Portal 2 event. That was too much for me so I played it windowed with the sound muted. Haven't touched it since.

Also, would anyone be interested if we made a thread on music, as in playing instruments and theory and such? I'm no expert, but I've been playing guitar and bass for maybe 10 years and am majoring in music in college so have a few years of theory so I (as well as other people) could help people with any questions they have or explain stuff.

Well strings will break, it's normal, and doesn't have to do with the quality of the guitar. It isn't something that happens all the time, but as the strings wear over time chances are that at some point one of them might break. A lot of the times its the high e string which is the thinnest string, but I've had the E string on my bass break a few times over the years (it's about as thick as the 1/8" jack on a pair of headphones). It's not something that I'd worry about, it's just that I find it a lot easier to spend $4-5 on an extra set of strings and have them handy in case something happens rather than having to play with only 5 strings until I have time to go to the store or order a new set. Also over time the strings will lose their tone and after a while it's good to change them anyways (they'll sound really bad and if you look they'll have flat spots where they make contact with the frets).

Yes, though strings are also cheap, you can get a good set for anywhere between $3-10 USD and it's worth having an extra set around in case a string breaks at some point. An electric guitar can look like a lot of things, it can be thin and solid like your typical Fender strat, or it can be big and hollow like an acoustic, but with pickups. There are also acoustic guitars that have pickups installed in the sound hole (they're referred to as acoustic-electric guitars). It all depends on what you want. The bigger guitars and the hollow guitars will be louder, so for example I have a solid body guitar and a semi-hollow guitar which isn't as big as a full hollow-body guitar, but part of it is hollow and there's an f-hole on it like a violin would have. If I'm playing the solid body guitar by myself not plugged it I can hear it fine, but it sounds really thin and plain and if I was playing with someone else it would probably be inaudible. The semi-hollow guitar is closer to an acoustic guitar in terms of tone and volume, and a hollow-body guitar like a Gretsch would basically be like a regular acoustic guitar.

There's also something that you can enable that makes a line from your hero to your cursor when you select a skill or an item like a ward and if it's in range its a green arrow and if its not it's red. At least thats how I think it works, I don't use it so I'm not 100% and I don't think it's that helpful. In other news, Centaur is really fucking strong now. I also always think of him as Brad Wardell now. It's Bradley to his friends though.
