Neptune's Bountiful Pride: The Sequel
TheLastBaron replied to Murdoc's topic in Multiplayer Networking
So to clarify, we are submitting a name which will be added to a pool and then names form the pool will then be distributed to the players randomly? Meaning for example I might submit the name "Joe Smith" or whatever and then names would go out and someone would get the name, but that person is probably someone who is not me? -
I came into this thread and saw a video called Silent Unboxing. The person started unboxing and it made sound. I was immediately unhappy.

I didn't know whther I should put this in the Dota/LoL thread since this game is a Lords Management or not, I decided just to make a separate thread. I just got into the beta for this today so I'm assuming beta keys went out. Did anyone else get it? I played a single game of it at PAX last year and saw a decent amount of it since I spent a fair amount of time at the Hi-Rez booth because of Tribes and it looks good. I'm currently installing it so I don't know what's changed since then but I've heard good things from 2 of my friends who also got into the beta. If anyone wants to play a game let me know. I think my in game name is TheLastBaron, assuming it just uses Hi-Rez master accounts as your in game name. Edit: So I guess it's like Tribes in that I get a number of keys and each person I give a key gets more keys. I have three keys and am going to give two away to real life friends but if I give my third key away here that person should get three more key and we can continue the chain to get anyone here who wants a key one. If anyone wants my last key just let me know and I'll hook it up.

Thats actually a reason why pads are becoming more popular, they're harder to hear than the typical sticks people use. I know a lot of SSF4 players use pads, well by a lot I mean there are top tier players use pads which used to never happen. -

The point of that was never that the parry was super hard to do, it was that doing it under that much pressure with 0 margin for error with perfect timing was impressive and a crazy moment. I can (could) do the ironman infinite in MvC2, that doesn't mean I can do this in a high pressure game. Similar thing with speedruns, you can practice a game and be able to pull off all the glitches and get good splits, but unless you can pull everything off in a full run/race you wont get a good time and being able to is what makes it so impressive. -
I like how everyone is a clone.

The reason I ask is because I don't really know how a sequel would work, given the ending to the game. Link's Awakening is probably my favorite Zelda game, favorite 2D Zelda game for sure, but I don't see how you would make a game be specifically a sequel to it rather than just another Zelda game given that the story is pretty self contained and it ends where it starts (starts with his ship in the middle of a storm and ends with him waking up floating on a piece of the wreckage).

I'm down/in/up for it -
By LA2 do you mean a remake or an actual sequel? Also isn't Link's Awakening a sequel set in the LTTP world/timeline?

So I originally heard about this game on the podcast Top Score (where host Emily Reese interviews game composers) in an episode where the guest was Brian D'Oliveira who composed this game. At the time the game was only on PSN so I couldn't play it, but I just saw it's not on steam. Has anyone played it? Based on the premise and the interview it seems like it is either really good, or really poor, based on how well executed it is, and reviews seem hit or miss. For anyone who wants to listen to the interview you can hear it at http://minnesota.publicradio.org/display/web/2012/12/21/papo-and-yo-top-score-brian-doliveira and it's a good listen even if you have no interest in the game.

I watched the BBC program Stargazing a little while back and it made me really angry at all the light pollution here, as well as hate Johnathan Ross even more. then I watched this and hated light pollution even more. 0:53 and 5:07 especially are awesome.

For the record if people were to get something happening I would be down to drive up from San Jose and do whatever sort of thing people do when not interacting via the internet.

Back when I played there weren't commercial sticks (except I guess that X-Arcade thing that used to be a thing) so most people either made them or bought them form people who made them. I made one and it was pretty cool and also not expensive, just took some switches which are cheap and a controller to get the board from. I think a lot of people today use pads, which I find weird as pad players used to be like second tier. getting used to the input is definitely a challenge, for the first year I played at arcades I couldn't consistently dragon punch. I originally used a Dreamcast pad before I made a stick and stick movements are a lot easier with an actual joystick instead of a controller analog stick. -

It's been at Evo before, this time it's because the last game slot was open for a fundraiser and I guess most people donated for Meele, which is cool. -

I think Super Smash deserves a lot more credit than it gets for being so accessible yet at the same time being just as deep as most other fighting games (Meele that is). I never got that into it, that is I only ever played it as a normal person would, some of my other friends got super technical with it which is basically what happens to every game you play once you play fighting games competitively (and why I can't play fighting games any more). If you want you can just play around with friends and it's super fun, or you can play with people who are crazy good at doing stuff like wavedashing or techs and it's also super fun. Compare that to other fighting games where if you have to know a whole bunch of moves and combos just to not get crushed and it's a pretty impressive achievement. -

I'm curious to see what the state of fighting games in 5-10 years. On one hand the EVOs now are held at big name hotels in Vegas, versus the ones I used to go to were in really small places not even close to the strip with much smaller crowds (not to mention no streams). On the other hand the arcade scene is dying pretty fast (MvC3 isn't even made in a cab version). Arcades were such a huge part of fighting games, I can't even imagine what it's like to try and play competitively just over xbox live or whatever people do now. I guess it's a plus if you don't live in an area with a big arcade scene, but as someone who used to spend maybe 15-20 hours every week with my friends at arcades it just feels so weird seeing people who just play by themselves all the time and then go to competitions. I'm probably biased because the arcade I went to had a really good scene with lots of good players played there like Ricky Ortiz. I don't play or follow fighting games at all really these days, and I probably won't watch Evo this year (I haven't watched it since they dropped MvC2 and made S/SF4 the only SF game), but it's cool to see it getting really popular. -

Some heartless jackass makes a fake Majora's Mask HD trailer because he hates me, specifically
TheLastBaron replied to Udvarnoky's topic in Video Gaming
Didn't they say after OoT came out that they wouldn't do a remake of Majora's Mask until after they did an original game for the 3DS, or something like that? Meaning that if this is a new game set in the same world/time/whatever as LTTP that that would still be true? -

I went to Evo in '04, '05, and '06 and that was the best moment out of all of them, even though I don't play SFII. Even the ones nowadays at the fancy hotels with tons of people aren't as crazy as that. The Pokemon video is kind of funny, but it's not really impressive since he's not doing anything special, just killing the other team with entry hazards. One of the things that I find most impressive are (some) speedruns. The most entertaining is probably SM64. I could watch it all day. -
Left 4 Thumbs - The Homethumbing 2
TheLastBaron replied to Wrestlevania's topic in Multiplayer Networking
I always played with three friends, which probably made it worse since we usually beat the other team whenever it wasn't another group of four. In hindsight we probably should have always split it 2/2 so no matter what it doesn't end up with one person by themselves. To be fair, we were also probably annoying to play against as we took it more serious than the majority of people (i.e. doing things like the shortcut on the very first level of Dead Center where you jump out the window at the end of the very first hall and fall down to the window right next to the elevator) -
Left 4 Thumbs - The Homethumbing 2
TheLastBaron replied to Wrestlevania's topic in Multiplayer Networking
I just played this game with a friend for the first time since before The Passing was out and people leaving is still a huge problem. If people do bad on the first round of a map, even if it's only by a couple hundred points, the whole team leaves. I don't really know what Valve could do though, maybe add cosmetic items and have it be you have to stay til the end of the campaign. I played a ton of the game in the first few months after it came out (almost 150 hours in 2 months) and the games that were fun were either 4v4 pre-mades, or games with cool people that just wanted to have fun. The majority of games ended on the very first map of a campaign, though. -
Crytek Cevat Yerli: Graphics Are “60% Of The Game”
TheLastBaron replied to elmuerte's topic in Video Gaming
I would if his point was about visuals in general, as opposed to audio or whatever else, he might have a point, but I'm assuming it was about specifically graphic fidelity (page won't load so not sure). If talking about visuals in general, I would probably agree. In a lot of the games what you see is more important than what you hear (most games are playable with the sound muted, most games are not playable with the screen off). However if talking about how good something looks relating to how good something is, I'm currently playing Deus Ex GOTY because I started playing Human Revolution and it just made me want to play a game that's 13 years old. I also think that as graphics get better and better they will become less important. After watching the PS4 announcement stream and there was the one presentation about the racing game with the super good looking cars all I could think was that the cars in racing games already look good and that the appeal for me is in how good the sound is. In a game like GTA it's hard to say if I care more about the graphics or audio more. For me just as much of the immersion probably comes from things like the radio stations as from realistic the city is. -
This might be/is probably old news, but I haven't been following The Great Gatsby at all, mostly because I assumed I would not like it. But I just saw that the soundtrack and it looks terrible (in the context of being the soundtrack for The Great Gatsby). http://consequenceofsound.net/2013/04/the-great-gatsby-soundtrack-features-new-jay-z-the-xx-florence-the-machine/
