  1. General Video Game Deals Thread

I didn't actually realize there was a new Bundle until I saw this. I got the email, but it was in the middle of a bunch of emails from every forum I've ever signed up for telling me Happy Birthday and I assumed the Humble Bundle was the same.
  2. Games with dogs (pets)

Are there any games that are about having a pet and what it feels like to have a pet? I don't mean something like Nintendogs, but I guess like trying to convey what it's like having one. I can't explain it very well so I'm going to give some back-story. I have two dogs both of whom I like a lot and one who is probably my best friend. In the past four years the majority of my friends have moved away for school and while I still talk to them all the time on a day to day basis I don't really hang out with them all that much (relative to before). On the other hand I hang out with my dog all the time. If I'm watching TV he's usually on the sofa next to me and if I get up he'll follow me so at any given point in the day when I'm home chances are that he's within ten feet of me (he also sleeps in a big leather recliner next to me). The majority of the episodes of the podcast I've listened to while taking him for his walks. So basically when I say he's probably my best friend I don't mean it in a cheesy/ stupid way. Are there any games with pets that actually do a good job of representing what a pet is actually like? All the things I can think of are just like Dragon Age where you have a party member who is your dog, or horses in games like Zelda or Shadow of the Colossus.
  3. Games with dogs (pets)

Do they have super hearing and super smell? Those would actually be really useful.
  4. General Video Game Deals Thread

This week it's Alan Wake + American Nightmare
  5. Steam Trading Card

I think it's not so much about making more money on f2p games as it is about expanding the trading community/economy that exists around certain Steam games to Steam as a whole, especially with the new Steam marketplace.
  6. Comics Extravaganza - Pow Bang Smash!

I just picked up the first trade of Fatale and it's great. As a huge Brubaker/Phillips fan I'm loving it.
  7. Steam Trading Card

Yeah that's what I was thinking. Since there are only a few games I would care about having a badge for once more games have cards I'll have plenty to trade with. I also might try and trade some of my large stash of metal in TF2 for TF2 cards and then trade those for different cards (I mean in the future, right now I don't really care about the badges)
  8. 5 Minute Mystery

I did a couple and in all of them the clues were very heavy handed. I'm not sure if this is because they need to be in one clear sentence that you can label or if the authors just think they're more subtle than they actually are, but it got kind of annoying.
  9. Nextbox 1080: The Reckoning

I didn't watch the release or look at anything other than the pictures. My personal impression is that I think it looks fine and if there are games on it that I think I will enjoy then I'll buy it and if there aren't I won't.
  10. Steam Trading Card

Well you could also trade other things besides cards like items or games. Also I think for the free to play games you get cards based on how much money you spend int he store, It hink Valve said it's something like a card for roughly every $9. I don't know if there is still a cap on this but if not you could then in theory end up with more cards than you need.
  11. 5 Minute Mystery

In 6th grade we had a series of books called Five Minute Mysteries in our class and everyone was super into them. I remember whenever we had our reading time everyone would race to snag them.
  12. Idle Thumbs 106: Imagine the Man

I'm only maybe 30 minutes into the cast so far so am only going to comment on Dota. Chris mentioned that he liked the game, but that the way he enjoyed playing it was in a way that didn't require him to get super invested into it and it isn't that possible for that to happen. What this made me thing of was custom games which currently don't exist outside of completely organizing a full group of 10 people. In Warcraft 3 DotA people would play games with ridiculous rules such as same hero only mid or death match which basically exist as a means play a game where everyone is going in with the express purpose of only having fun and not getting that invested. Valve have halfway supported these by adding them as option in custom lobbies, but this is where it gets to the point where you need to organize your own game as there isn't any sort of way to browse lobbies for these games. The reason I thought of it is that I usually only play Dota in the evenings with other people like Sean and/or other Telltale people, and/or other Thumbs and what usually comes up is a situation where it's our last game and the game ends in frustrating defeat. When this happens it's always a situation of having to decide if you want to play another in the hopes that you'll end on a high note, or quit and go to sleep in a bad mood. Not that long ago when this happened I was thinking about how it would be nice if custom games were more prevalent as it would be a way to play a game and end on a high note, where you might not win, but you at least have fun and don't get invested to the point that losing means the rest of your night is going to suck. I know Valve is still working on some other game modes so hopefully in the future playing them is relatively easy to do. I'm actually also going to ask something about XCOM. How many low rank people do other Thumbs have in their squad? I've been playing with basically one person always being pretty bad, one person being okay but not one of my top guys, and the other guys all being the best that I currently have available. I'm starting to think that I should probably try and get a lot more of my newbies experience as currently I have a lot invested in maybe 7-8 soldiers and a wipe would be a really crippling setback. On the other hand this also ensures that I can be pretty confident that all my rookies are going to make it through their first couple missions (except for this one guy I had who got one shot at the end of a mission when I had basically already won. He reminded me of Speedy from The Venture Brothers).

  16. Papers, Please

From what I remember you check for a discrepancy and you highlight the page where it lists the papers required.
  17. Steam Trading Card

Is this still in beta or did everyone get in now? I didn't get any sort of notification, but I noticed I now have two Dota 2 cards. Edit: I just restarted Steam and got the notification, I have 3 beta invites if anyone wants them.

  19. Dragon's Crown: Gaze past the giant witch tits

    I don't see anything wrong
  20. XCOM Enemy Unknown

I bought this game when it was the daily deal a few days ago and am surprised by how fast I've been sucked into this game. I'm going to read through this thread before I say any more because I'm not very far in and every thought I have has probably already be said. Okay I read it, I wish all my guys didn't sound American. I know it would be a lot of work to record lines in a bunch of different languages/accents, but it'd be cool if my Japanese guys and my African guys didn't sound like they were from the same place as my British guys. I looked at the customization options and I don't think the sets of voices are different for each of the however many races there are, I might be wrong, but if they did that it would be cool. Maybe some cool group of modders will do something. Another thing, for capturing aliens to interrogate I'm assuming you only need to capture them once and then after that there isn't any benefit to capturing the same species anymore. Is this correct? Also one last thing, does anyone else play in a way that is objectively bad or unoptimal, but more narratively satisfying? For example I just did the mission to assault the alien base and a lot of it was stuff in the middle with parallel walkways on either side and I started by sending one of my guys down the left side and the other 5 I kept together on the right. My 5 main guys basically did all the work, but when I got to the end I had the 6th jump down and take out the commander, basically replicating . The only reason it even worked out instead of the guy who was solo dying very early was because all the aliens who got alerted to the other 5 rushed over to them and left him alone.

  22. I Had A Random Thought...

Were there any other N64 games that had dual color carts like Pokemon Stadium 2?
  23. Post your face!

So my birthday is coming up on the 28th and I just wanted to remind everyone about my party so last year's mishap doesn't repeat itself. http://i.imgur.com/MmOsTKq.jpg
