  1. Speculation about a fictional Linklater game

I am in full support of an Ethan Hawke role playing game.
  2. Getting a phone

There's a program on the android developer forums that does everything. I think it's specifically for the Verizon model, but if you have a different provider there's another tool posted by the same guy. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2301720 I just downloaded the zip which was a folder with a bunch of stuff in it and then just dragged the folder to my desktop and opened it and there's a file called RUN_ME that you run and everything else you can ignore, you won't have to touch it. The hardest part was that you have to have you phone in developer debugging mode which is normally straight forward, but I couldn't find out where to enable it. It turns out what you have to do is go to Settings, then the More tab, then scroll all the way to the bottom and click the About Phone option. Scroll down to where it says the build number and just tap on it a little bit, I think like 7 times or so, and you'll get a little message saying the Developer Options tab is now available. I don't know why they didn't just have it available form the start, but that's how to do it, and in the options there's just a box you check to enable debugging. Once you have debugging enabled you just plug your phone into the pc with the usb cable and run the "RUN_ME" file and it just pops up a window with a menu and numbered options. just hit 1 and it will start doing everything, with occasional "press any key to continue" prompts and a couple things where a window will pop up and directions which are really simple like just "press start". There are 3 total things to do form the menu, options 3 and 4 are just different options for recovery modes, I think 3 is ClockWorkMod which is the most popular, but TWRP does the same thing. like I said the whole process of going from 1-3 took me maybe 5 minutes and it's super straightforward. One thing I noticed is that the process requires rebooting the phone a couple times, which happens automatically, but once or twice after rebooting the prompt stayed at "waiting for device" or something. I unplugged the usb cable and plugged it back in and it detected the phone. I guess when the phone booted back up with the cable already plugged in my pc wasn't noticing it. Anyways, once you finish it will let you know you're done and that's it.
  3. Yeah it is usually pretty full at night time, as far as I remember it's the only chat room I'm in so it's always open when I'm on, though that doesn't mean I see it all the time since when I'm not in a game I'm usually watching games or something, but I check it fairly frequently and I know there are a lot other people who are fairly active.
  4. Dota Today 2: The Lord's Pitch

Lords Pitch for me = http://www.lords.org/ Brad is right, it's very British. Edit: When I heard Brad talking about backers having their name in Massive Chalice I considered upping my pledge, but then I realized my last name would be a pretty lame game to come up. I'm still considering it, but "Baron" just seems boring. I wish I had a cooler name.
  5. E3 2013 Idle Thumbs Steam Chat

I forgot E3 was even happening soon. I'll probably be in the chat as I'm usually in the chat anyways. I'm usually the only person in it, but if I check the tab for it after a few days I'll usually find that at some point someone has joined the chat, said "WIZARD!!!" and left. I'm 100% serious about that, it happens pretty frequently. Actually I think a decent amount of the time they join and say "VIDEO GAMES" and then leave.
  6. Getting a phone

I got a Galaxy S4 yesterday and rooting it took maybe 5 minutes total. I haven't messed with it much, I'm mostly glad I was able to keep my unlimited data on Verizon after upgrading without too much hassle.
  7. Dota Today 1: QOP Top and POTM Bottom

I would quit Dota 2 for that.
  8. Steam Greenlight

I decided to do some voting since I haven't done any in a really long time. In my first 10 games I think 6 or 7 of them were Horror games. I'm not really sure how I feel about it, but I voted them all down because I don't like horror games and I wouldn't buy them, but not because I thought they were bad games (some were, some seemed decent, some I didn't watch the whole video for). If Amnesia was on Greenlight I would most likely down-vote it and that makes me feel kind of weird (I own Amnesia and am super glad it exists, but I will never play it. The same is true for the Penumbra games.) Do you guys vote strictly on whether you personally would buy/play the particular game, or do you more just vote based on if you think it should be a thing that's on Steam?
  9. Omni

I remember seeing basically this same thing on G4TTV like 10 years ago back when they had shows like Arena with pros playing Unreal on tv and in one episode they had everyone play some game using basically this, and I thought wow that's crazy, but things like this will never be a real thing outside of some crazy expensive unit that only exists on Tech TV. Edit: I found it, the game was America's Army http://archives.starbulletin.com/2003/10/21/business/index2.html
  10. Dota Today 1: QOP Top and POTM Bottom

I think exort Invoker reminds me of fighting games the most out of every character I've played in a LoMa.
  11. General Video Game Deals Thread

Yeah I definitely feel the same way. I don't factor it into the purchase, meaning I buy it solely for the initial games, but there's always the expectation that I'll get something else down the line.
  12. Dota Today 1: QOP Top and POTM Bottom

So last week I was in Santa Barbra and couldn't play Dota at all and in the days since I've been back I haven't played either. I've noticed I feel less compelled to play it. I don't mean that as in I don't want to play it or if someone hit me up to play a game I wouldn't be down, but rather I normally feel such a strong pull to play the game every single night and as soon as I play my next game I'll be in it's clutches again. Is this what it feels like to quit smoking? Edit: For what it's worth I just wanted to add that in don't you can dodge (some) things that aren't skillshots by disjointing the projectiles. Either by skills or using items like Manta at the right time.
  13. General Video Game Deals Thread

Four more games added to the Humble Bundle. I'm glad I'm getting more games, but I'm more excited to see what the next weekly deal is.
  14. Idle Thumbs 105: XCOM Obama

I started an iroman classic playthrough and was using the naming scheme of soccer players from the person's country, but I also would change their appearance to look like the person. It was so much more effort than it was worth and I gave up on the play through pretty early.
  15. Speculation about a fictional Linklater game

Btw if you liked those movies you should watch A Scanner Darkly. Also I think you'd like Man From Earth, but it's not a Linklater, but it's really good.
  16. Speculation about a fictional Linklater game

I didn't read the op but I'm assuming the question is how you would combine Bad News Bears with School of Rock and get a game. It would probably be like Pokemon, but with children.
  17. Comics Extravaganza - Pow Bang Smash!

I've been wanting to get Building Stories since it came out, but the $50 price tag always made me get something else instead. I just saw that it's now only $33 on Amazon and I think it's finally time to snag it.
  18. The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)

Yeah same here, I didn't listen to the entire thing for just that reason
  19. The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)

Boards of Canada streamed Tomorrow's Harvest a few hours ago on Youtube, which means a low quality version of the album will probably be hitting the web soon, or probably already is up. I liked it, don't know what else to say though.
  20. Dota Today 1: QOP Top and POTM Bottom

I have it set where it's just colors and shapes and then holding down alt toggles the portraits. You can also choose to have Portraits be the default and alt toggles the colors/shapes, or you can have everything be team colors (green and red) and there's also the option to have hero names instead of portraits. I find player colors too helpful to not have, which is why I don't have portraits all the time, but a lot of pro's I've seen have hero names enables as the default so take that as you will.
  21. Dear Esther

Yeah, I feel you. Here's an interview with Jessica Curry who did the music for the game. It's a cool listen. http://minnesota.publicradio.org/display/web/2012/10/03/jessica-curry-dear-esther-top-score
  22. Remember Me

Ziiiiiiiing! Here's a 5 minute interview with the composer of the game. http://minnesota.publicradio.org/display/web/2013/05/24/olivier-deriviere-remember-me-on-top-score
  23. Dota Today 1: QOP Top and POTM Bottom

Engineer is my favorite class in tf2 and I always play support focused.
  24. Unity

Everyone in this thread should work together to make the best game ever created and then become more super rich and become the first private citizens to go to the moon.
  25. Dear Esther

If I just thought of this game as "Super Sick Hiking Simulator 2012" it would already be worth my money.
