  1. General Video Game Deals Thread

Gone Home is currently $4.99, I just bought two gift copies.
  2. Video game music renditions

I actually generally enjoy if someone does a good metal cover of a song because the arrangement is usually interesting and original. That isn't to say that I ever really bother to look up covers or that I get super stoked about metal versions of video game songs, but when I do hear someone playing something I enjoy a well done arrangement over someone just playing the song exactly as it is in the game. If the person is mediocre I don't really care what instrument it is.
  3. Comics Extravaganza - Pow Bang Smash!

    Yes, yes you should.
  4. Kickstarter Project Gaming handwarmers

At MLG this past weekend one of the players on a Dota 2 team paused in the middle of a game because his hands were cold.
  5. Didn't they do the same thing with P4,releasing it for the PS2?
  6. The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)

Well he was solo when I saw him so maybe he's just less of a dick when he has band members with him and he can't just walk off stage.
  7. The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)

I had a similar experience seeing Jeff Mangum, but it wasn't at a festival it was his own show. He got angry people were taking pictures on their phones.

I've never actually watched Fringe, but I love the theme to it. I love the X-Files though.
  9. Comics Extravaganza - Pow Bang Smash!

Building Stories makes a great gift, but it's a very unconventional format and also costs like $50. I haven't read the Wrinkle in Time comic, but I've heard it's excellent. Asterios Polyp is good, and so is Tale of Sand, which was so popular last holiday season I couldn't get it for the longest time. I really liked I Kill Giants, it kind of reminded me of Too Cool to be Forgotten which is great along with anything else by Jeff Robinson. Essex County is the book I've probably bought the most for other people, it's my favorite graphic novel ever. For a collected series I'll second Sandman, it's amazing.
  10. Show me your desk/gaming space

I was hoping that's what it was, but it could have also been 007 The World is Not Enough
  11. PL4YST4TION 4

Around here people would line up hours before stores would open to get Wiis even weeks after it came out, when stores would get new ones in stock.
  12. Cartoons!

I watched the first few episodes of this season of Korra and stopped because I did not like it. I don't really know what else to say.
  13. Show me your desk/gaming space

What game is the blue n64 cart?
  14. I camped overnight with a bunch of friends for a Wii. I just did it for fun, but when Weiß became impossible to get for the longest time I felt cool having one. I still haven't beaten Twilight Princess.
  15. Nintendo 3DS

UI kind of wish I didn't buy the extra Mii plaza games because everything that isn't the puzzle one or Find Mii takes a while to clear. When I was at Day of the Devs I had my 3DS and I didn't even bother clearing my queue so I just got 10 tags, but then games like Pokemon got like +70. Is there a way to just not go through all the games? I know sometimes if I haven't cleared everything it'll sometimes say "There's some guys at your plaza gate, do you want to greet them? Warning you won't be able to finish your games" or something, but I don't know what causes that to happen, versus it just not tagging any new people.
  16. DOTA 2

They didn't delay it for the update, they weren't going to do it at all until people got mad. Also Ember Spirit has been in WC3 Dota for a while, he was super broken when he came out, not sure if he's been changed since I haven't followed changes to heroes not in Dota 2. Apparently Earth Spirit is also super over powered, but since he was just added in December I haven't tried him personally.

  18. The most niche podcast you have listened too

I listen to a podcast on d.i.y. audio/recording equipment where they do things like talk about mic preamp circuit design or argue over the merits of through hole vs surface mount and vice versa on components. It's pretty dope.
  19. Idle Thumbs 131: Real Life

I just wanted to come here and interject to stay that people do in fact still smoke cigarettes. I can't comment about other places, but people in my age bracket (early 20's) who live in the Bay Area smoke, and a high number of them at that. I don't, but enough people around me do that if I see someone smoking I don't really even notice it.
  20. Board Games?

Did you play the Star Wars Monopoly video game? That's the only one I've played, but I liked it more than any game of normal monopoly.
  21. DOTA 2

I've gotten to the point where when I'm playing by myself I go through the same cycle of queuing something other than AP and then losing, and then the next game queuing AP, picking Furion and winning. I feel like a huge jerk when I do it too because the reason I pick Furion specifically is so I can play the game solo. I used to do it with Tinker, but with him you have to actually play in a lane (I hate ancients and jungling is really bad now with the small camp move). Also Ursa used to be a go to hero when I wanted to just win, I've never lost with him out of like 14-15 games, but now I can't jungle him either. It's like Valve doesn't want to support my solo play-style. Why can't they just let me play PvE if I want to?
  22. Idle Thumbs 131: Real Life

I sold my trading cards and with the proceeds I bought two Dota 2 tournament passes (NEL and EEL). From spectating those I've gotten almost a full page of items (full page is 80) and each one on the market sells for ~$1-5. I also still had enough money in my wallet to buy the second season of NEL which just started so that's another months of items.
  23. Episode 8... ?

  24. PL4YST4TION 4

Wow, so I was talking to a bunch of my friends today and someone said something about needing to get around to buying the new FIFA and I jokingly asked why they weren't just going to wait a week and get it on the PS4 and I found out that out of everyone in that group (5-6 people in their early 20's who play a fair amount of games, but pretty much just all the EA Sports games, CoD, and like GTA) no one had any interest in getting a new console because they all currently own working consoles. The thing that blew my mind is that someone said they wanted a Wii U and it turns out that pretty much everyone was planning on buying a Wii U at some point in the near future. I don't know what's hip with young people anymore.
  25. Desktop Dungeons

I'm super stoked to see this finally out since I know the QCF guys and they're rad. I wasn't sure if they were going to have to end up going through Greenlight, but I guess since it's an IGF winner it wasn't an issue.
