  1. Comics Extravaganza - Pow Bang Smash!

Yeah I've been reading it, I like it a lot. Archie comics, as in the publisher, are so deceptively progressive.
  2. Recently completed video games

So I guess I technically finished Pokemon Y a little while back, but I didn't think about it because I don't ever really care about the story in any of the games. I'm currently in full training mode trying to get a team built. They've made it really easy in this game to breed Pokemon with good IVs (stats). His name is actually Ico I believe.
  3. Video game music renditions

    Gah, double post.
  4. Video game music renditions

Did OCR make a label for video game music? I think I saw an email saying that but I'll have to check.
  5. Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor

So I guess that MERP mod for skyrim probably got shut down for this.
  6. Dota Today 9: The Dazzle In Question

Yeah in games like that I almost wish there were a vote kick like in WC3/HoN and bots would take over like L4D. I say almost because in those games vote kick is mostly used to kick whoever gives up first blood. I definitely hate people who just intentionally ruin games, I even have a hotkey set up spamming Q for when people try to feed couriers.
  7. Dota Today 9: The Dazzle In Question

I wouldn't call a game where you're down 10 or so kills by 10 minutes probably lost. So many games change significantly once a team gets level 6 on their supports and/or the first big item on their cores. I've certainly been on both sides of games like that plenty of times. If it's impossible to leave your base then yeah, you can't really do much, but if you can farm your jungle and then try to smoke and either get a pick off or initiate a team fight a lot of games are very salvageable. Edit: really don't want to keep this argument going since I'm pretty sure this is an agree to disagree type of issue for most of us, but I felt the need to post because I always try and stay positive like my buddy Jason Nesmith.
  8. Dota Today 9: The Dazzle In Question

When you say the game was lost do you mean the other team was up by 10 kills by 10 minutes, or do you mean the other team was up by 30 kills and most of your towers by 10 minutes? Because I would agree that in one of those cases the game is probably lost.
  9. Battlestar Galactica (BSG) and spinoffs

I'm making a third attempt at trying to watch the modern Battlestar Galactica, and I think it might be time to accept that I just really don't like anything about this show. The original I enjoy because it has the whole charm of being from the 70s plus it doesn't try to be anything besides fun. With this show there just isn't anything I like, but I keep hoping if I just watch 5-10 more episodes I'll get enough inertia to care about something in this show.
  10. Dota Today 9: The Dazzle In Question

I was planning on reading this whole thread to catch up on the discussion that's been going on, but saw this and didn't need to read any further because my day was made.
  11. The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)

I hadn't gotten around to listening to the new Touche Amore album, and I'm not a very big fan of them, but I'm considering seeing them in a couple weeks because they're playing with MewithoutYou so I figured I'd finally pick up the album and give it a listen. I'm liking it a lot.
  12. Books, books, books...

Which narrator was it? There are two versions on audible, was it the same one as the version in the bundle?
  13. San Francisco Residents!

So this past weekend apparently there was a furry convention in downtown San Jose. That is all.
  14. The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)

New Springsteen album is good, but the new version of The Ghost of Tom Joad is not working for me.
  15. Comics Extravaganza - Pow Bang Smash!

Does anyone else here read Optic Nerve? I'm finally going to get around to reading the new issue that came out last year and I'm half looking forward to it and half dreading it because it's usually pretty soul crushing.
  16. Unepic

Weird, there's been a Nyan Cat courier in Heroes of Newerth for years and I don't think there was ever a fuss over that.
  17. You Have One of Three Wishes

I can't pick an answer without trying to base it on what would have the biggest change on how the world works. I guess I would pick eating.
  18. Intoxication in Video Games

Wasn't there a discussion about this on Crate & Crowbar at some point? I don't remember what any of them said, just that it was a thing.
  19. Comics Extravaganza - Pow Bang Smash!

I mostly read indie books these days and I would group what I read into three main categories, roughly equal in terms of the volume that I read. First is books mostly about people, things like Essex County, Blankets, all the Alex Robinson books like Too Cool to be Forgotten. Top Shelf puts out a lot of good books of this type (such as all the ones I mentioned). A lot of the time they're single books but there's also series' like Strangers in Paradise. Next is Crime comics. Basically anything by Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips. Criminal, Scene of the Crime, Fatale, ect. Also Darwyn Cooke's Parker books, Torpedo, and Blacksad are all fantastic. This category has a lot of overlap with superhero comics, with books like both Incognito and Sleeper by Brubaker/Phillips having superheroes. There's also series' like Gotham Central which was amazing as well as straight superhero books that have crime themes like a lot of the good Batman and Catwoman books. Then there's Sci-fi/Fantasy type books, things like Fables or Saga or Joe the Barbarian (also Jonathan Hickman is on fire right now with both The Manhattan Projects and East of West). I'm also really excited for new Sandman. These aren't hard categories, there's a lot of overlap in books like Scalped or 100 Bullets which are a mix of the first two categories, or Sweet Tooth which is in a post-apocalyptic setting with a lot of just normal people stuff, and then there are things like Hellblazer or Preacher (Garth Ennis is so amazing) which are a little bit of everything. I'm writing this on my phone and at this point I think I should stop and come back later when I'm at a computer since I can't really see much of what I've written anymore. I'll also try to format it better as it's probably horrible.
  20. Books, books, books...

I started reading the first book of Brandon Sanderson's new series and I'm having a hard time getting past the bad dialogue and annoying characters. I don't know if I'll be able to handle 900 more pages of this let alone 9 more thousand page books.
  21. Comics Extravaganza - Pow Bang Smash!

I'm starting the Solo books DC did (each book is a collection of short stories by each issue's featured creator and sometimes other writers but they always do all the art). I'm still on the first one which is Tim Sale's and it's so good. I'm really looking forward to Darwyn Cooke's though, I think it's number 5.
  22. Movie/TV recommendations

I was kind of disappointed by the new Sherlock, but I'm still excited for new episodes.
  23. Your Favourite Book This Year (2013)

Those are the same covers as the ones in the US. I read most of Name of the Wind right before Wise Man's Fear came out because one of my friends was super excited about it and then stopped because I didn't want to get 2/3ds of the way through a trilogy and then have to wait five years for the last book.
  24. Comics Extravaganza - Pow Bang Smash!

I use a Nexus 7 for reading series' that I read in issues and for ones that I read in trades it depends on if they're something I want on my shelf. Short series' that are only a few trades I will probably buy in paper format, especially mini series' like Daytripper that fit in a single book. I'm reading both Trillium and The Wake digitally at the moment, but will probably buy them in paper once they're done. Single book titles like The Underwater Welder or Tale of Sand or Asterios Polyp I always get physical copies of so that if I want I can lend them to people.
  25. 2014 Predictions!

    This year might be rad.
