  1. Non-video games

I'm sure I'd enjoy the game, but I don't know anyone that plays it or is interested in it and I have friends that already play Magic so it's a bit of a tough sell.
  2. Double Fine - Kickstarter - MASSIVE CHALICE

There was a while where I was thinking of just taking the clan name of Baron literally and having the motto be one of the various things my grandfather, Alfred Baron, used to say (he was Jewish and would always go "amongst my people we have a saying" which he would follow up with one of his many sayings). However I couldn't decide if I wanted to have everything be in English try and ask my dad what the original Yiddish was. I know DF said they're fine with people having thing that aren't in English, I think they actually encourage it, but I'm assuming there is a very small number of people who will play the game that would actually understand it. Anyways, as I was thinking about it I sort of realized that I didn't really feel comfortable going down that path given that the game is about the supremacy of bloodlines and my grandfather was an Austrian Jew born in 1917 and he went through some really fucked up stuff. So now I'm back to square one and I have basically two days to go. I guess worst case scenario I can just google "Latin mottos" and pick something.
  3. Awful Day-Ruining Bugs

I basically keep tabs open as an alternative to bookmarks (I do use bookmarks for some things, but if I want to remember something I'll leave a tab open so that I see it as if I made a bookmark and forgot about it I wouldn't remember to look for it). Speaking of tabs, does anyone know if you can reorder tabs on Chrome for Android? I have around 20 tabs open usually on my phone and try and keep them in a certain order, but sometimes I'll accidentally close one and when I go and restore it it just puts it at the bottom instead of where it was which annoys me.
  4. Non-video games

I actually really like Thunderstone (haven't played it for a while and I don't know what's different in Advance) and I really dislike Dominion. I own Dominion and never ever play it because I find it so boring and solitary. I found Thunderstone a lot more engaging, though I know there are some cards in Dominion expansions that make it more interactive. I think my main problem with any deck-building game is that I'm a huge fan of card games like Magic where you can draft decks and deck building games come really close to giving me the same feeling, except then that's the whole game so instead of building a deck and then playing with it you build a deck and the game ends. It always just feels a little empty to me on its own and maybe I like Thunderstone more because the whole adventuring and fighting monsters and leveling up distracts me from that. Speaking of drafting, I saw that Netrunner was adding drafting a while ago. Has anyone tried it? That might be the thing that finally gets me into Netrunner if it's done well.

I just rewatched the first Patrick McGoohan episode of Columbo last night (the one at the military academy). Man I forgot how great that episode was.
  6. Awful Day-Ruining Bugs

I currently have 40 tabs open in Firefox on my main monitor and 10 or so tabs in Chrome on my other monitor. For some reason when I full-screen things on my second monitor in Firefox it goes full screen on my main monitor so I use Chrome, but other than that I'm committed to Firefox because I need my add-ons.
  7. Comics Extravaganza - Pow Bang Smash!

I would say when it comes to licensed books it's never safe to assume anything. If you like a creator's previous work then there's always a decent chance you'll dig stuff they do in the future. I certainly get more excited when I see a team I like working on a new book than when I see a new book coming out with characters I like. I'll follow people I like from creator owned books to big two series' and usually I end up liking those too (examples being people like Rick Remender going from Fear Agent to Captain America, or Jason Aaron going from Scalped to a bunch of stuff at Marvel like Thor). On the other hand I really liked Andy Diggle's Vertigo work, especially Hellblazer, but havent liked anything he's done since. Licensed books I'm always warry of, however. Most of the time there's so much editorial constraint involved in working with the property that even if you like the writer you won't even recognize them in the work. There are some exceptions, I loved Matt Wagner's Zorro stuff, but I'm always extremely cautious.

It's probably not what you're thinking of, but Lords of Waterdeep is very similar to Caylus. I found Lords of Waterdeep alright, it's certainly a perfectly serviceable worker placement game, but it didn't really stand out to me amongst the field of other worker placement games that are out there when I played it. Also I thought the mandatory quests only made the game worse/less enjoyable to play. I only played a few games of it right when the game first came out, so 2-3 years ago, and all the games were with 3 people so maybe if I played it again now with more people I'd like it more. It's also worth pointing out that in general I'm not a huge fan of any worker placement games (I don't dislike them and I have and will play them).
  9. Selling console to GameStop vs. Pawn Shop

I wish my Craigslist experiences were that interesting, but despite having bought and sold a bunch of stuff on it the only awkward encounters I've ever had were related to language related (not being able to find someone and calling them only to find out they don't speak English. It eventually worked out fine.) I would also put in a vote for Craigslist over a pawnshop and certainly Gamestop, though like Jake I'm probably biased living in the bay area.
  10. Comics Extravaganza - Pow Bang Smash!

So the next issue of Afterlife with Archie came out on Wednesday, but I put off reading it until today because I didn't want to read it right after Life with Archie 37. I liked the issue, but the main thing is it also includes a preview for the new Sabrina series. The art is not at all what I expected, it's kind of sketchy with a watercolor thing going on, but also its a lot less cartoony. It's like some Sean Phillips Matt Kindt hybrid. The story itself is what it claims to be, a straight up horror story with witches in a small Massachusetts town during the 50's. I don't know if I'll pick it up when it actually comes out as unlike Archie I don't really care that much about the cast of characters in Sabrina and the art doesn't do as much for me as Francavilla's does on Afterlife.

Man I have my banner down, but coming up with a keep name/motto/battle cry is hard. Oh well I have a week.
  12. The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)

I was worried the new RX Bandits album was going to be bad because I thought they had broken up and then I saw the album art and thought it looked really bad so I was pessimistic. So far I'm digging it though. I still miss when they had horns, but I liked their last album.
  13. Batmazement: Knightly Man Bruce

Wow, that Red Hood costume actually has a red hood.
  14. Comics Extravaganza - Pow Bang Smash!

So the epilogue/followup issue to last week's Life with Archie (the big one) is out, but I still haven't picked it up. Last week was the first time in a while that I went into a comic shop since I don't normally buy physical copies of singles, but man they had a great series of variant covers that were only available by getting physical copies from stores. I don't know what I'm going to get, a lot of it depends on what's available, but I'm thinking Chiang is my favorite, though I like all of them except Ross. Last week for the "big issue" I got the Ramon Perez cover and wouldn't have bought a different cover it if it was sold out and would have just gotten it online. I think a lot of people probably went for the Francavilla cover because of the Afterlife with Archie vibe (which is funny because that series started because of a variant cover he did early on for Life with Archie). Here's all the covers for the two issues. They're all really cool, though I think the Alex Ross one is kind of creepy.
  15. Myst-a-likes?

The list is copied from a post he did in another forum and those games were already mentioned in the thread.
  16. Movie/TV recommendations

So I guess ABC has a game show that's copying the format of Takeshi's Castle/MXC called Wipeout. I'd never heard of it before, not sure how popular it is, but my friend that I've known since elementary school was on it and won. Watching a game show with someone you know on it is the most absurd thing ever. I had another friend who was on some dating show called Perfect Score and also won, and that was also really weird to watch. They were both basically playing characters, like for my friend on Wipeout they had a really strong emphasis on the fact that he's a male who makes a living crocheting things and selling them on Etsy and it became his "thing". Sooo weird http://www.hulu.com/watch/663626
  17. Manga Thread of Reading Comics Backwards

A month or two ago one of my friends read all of Naruto from #1 up to what was then current over the course of a couple days. At first it made me want to pick it up again, but he said that it just got worse and worse so I didn't. I haven't read any shonen in probably 5+ years and don't see myself picking up a new series again. It's impressive that Naruto is still going though, I was reading it in elementary school and am now done with college.
  18. The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)

I agree that the song is in no way a parody of Blurred Lines.
  19. I leant my cart for MM to a friend probably 10 years ago and never got it back. Every time I remind him and ask for it back he assumes it's a joke and just sort of chuckles and moves on.
  20. When I worked at Fry's duplicating what's in the picture would have taken me all of maybe two minutes, I'm skeptical.
  21. The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)

My middle school science teacher was really into the Dead, he was in the 100+ camp I believe. His name was Mr. Hippie as in his degree he had on the wall was made out to Paul Hippie. I recently watched a documentary on Netflix about the history and development of the glass pipe scene and basically every person they talked to originally started out by following Dead tours and selling pipes there. One thing about this Weird Al album, I've never actually heard any of the songs being parodied besides Blurred Lines and things in the polka. That doesn't mean it isn't enjoyable, but it feels weird.
  22. Jazz

So who here likes jazz? Who are you listening to? I saw Brad Mehldau a couple weeks ago and he was great! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-RS4oLB56Ig
  23. Double Fine - Kickstarter - MASSIVE CHALICE

I still have no idea what I'm doing, my sigil is probably done unless I decide to change my mind, but in tyerms of my motto and anything I have nothing.
  24. The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)

Yeah this is exactly what I'm hoping. Just put out songs/videos one at a time and then collect them and add in the original songs every few years.
  25. Movie/TV recommendations

I mean it's no Dr. Zaius, but it's good.
