  1. Return of the Steam Box!

    Oh man that's the best
  2. Return of the Steam Box!

Do you mean it's sort of like the triggers on the GameCube controller?
  3. Comics Extravaganza - Pow Bang Smash!

So I got the new Adrian Tomine hardcover collection when it came out a week or two ago and man I love that the book jacket is just clear plastic and you can take it off and loose the text on the cover. So clean.
  4. Uncharted (4 and The Nathan Drake Collection)

I never actually played any of the Uncharted games even though I have a PS3, think I'm going to pick this up.
  5. Other podcasts

If anyone is a fan of the Star Wars Minute podcast there's a new podcast spin-off focusing on Goodfellas featuring the three hosts of the ifanboy podcast. For those who don't know the format, it's a daily podcast that talks about the film (so in this case Goodfellas) one minute at a time. They'll probably get a variety of guests, the Star Wars Minute podcast had a lot of guests including people like Doug Benson. It's only on episode #14 right now (so they're 14 minutes into the film) and I'm really digging it. http://goodfellasminute.com
  6. Episode 324: Tower Defense

I loved wintermaul and all the other -maul variations that came out.Edit: also I really wish there were more multiplayer tower defense games. There're things like Sanctum and Orcs must die, but I really loved wintermaul where you were on a team where different people were in different positions and they were very different. Being Orange required you to build very differently than if you were gray. On top of that the collaborative yet competetive nature of having the scores was super interesting. You'd be mad if someone's maze leaked, but if it leaked into yours you'd be happy for the extra resources you'd get from killing the creeps.
  7. So the creator of The Stanley Parable has a new game out

Interesting, I read If on a winter's night... a couple weeks ago and the comparison makes me want to check this out (more than I already did I should say) That was definitely my experience reading it as well.
  8. I'm really behind on episodes so won't be hearing this for a while, but as a big fan of Danielle since the old GameShark podcast days I'm going to miss her.
  9. Comics Extravaganza - Pow Bang Smash!

The current Humble Bundle has a lot of good stuff, I'm interested to see what gets added, but so far there's Love and Rockets, Barefoot Gen, Essex County, Bone, and The Boys (at least a miniseries spinoff) amongst other things.
  10. Cartoons!

I've been rewatching Hey Arnold for the first time since I was a kid and it's so good. I just finished the Christmas episode where Arnold tries to find Mr Hyunh's daughter which I always really liked and it's still super good. Also the episode where he goes to the baseball game because Mickey Kaline was so good now that I realized Mickey Kaline is Ron Perlman. Also the music is absolutely top notch.
  11. Sports

So the San Jose Earthquakes are trying to make a playoff push and won tonight's game and Matias Perez Garcia, the player who scored, took his shirt off to celebrate getting a second yellow. I'm super happy because he's a joke and him being suspended is probably the best thing that could happen for the Quakes right now. I'm not that into MLS though now that European soccer has started. I have season tickets and go to all the home games, but I don't think the Quakes are going to make it and I mostly just go because their new stadium is a really fun place. Still, it was a funny thing to happen.
  12. The Vanishing of Ethan Carter

Until now I've only ever gotten motion sickness from playing a video game once which was the very first time I played Half Life 1. Literally 5 minutes into the game I thought I was going to throw up so I closed it. Man that was weird/unexpected, I'll probably go pick up some dramamine and try it again this weekend.
  13. The Nintendo Wii U is Great Thread

I just got a refurbished Wii U from Nintendo because it was cheaper and it's in pristine condition which I'm happy about even though I don't care about scratches or anything. I got the Wind Waker one with Nintendo Land which I'm actually really digging as a casual hang out with friends game. I'll probably get Mario Kart 8, but I really hated driving with the Wii mote in the Wii version and wish it supported the gamecube adapter (I'm assuming no games besides Smash can use the adapter, correct?). Maybe I'll pick up a classic controller.
  14. Comics Extravaganza - Pow Bang Smash!

For me personally no, I'm actually exactly where you are in that I only read Astro City at this point (mostly out of habit, but it has been super good the past few months).
  15. The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)

I saw Incubus a week or so ago playing with Deftones and Death From Above 1979. I went 80% for Deftones, but the other 20% was Incubus. I really like them, I just haven't listened to them in a really long time and after seeing them I have no idea why cause they're great.
  16. The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)

Not that long ago I posted a song by Foxing. They just released a new one from their upcoming album on NPR and man am I excited for their album. http://www.npr.org/sections/allsongs/2015/08/27/434857775/vikings-choice-foxing-the-magdelene?
  17. Pro Gaming Documentaries.

There was a really good Street Fighter II documentary called Bang the Machine I saw at EVO 04 that followed people and explored the East/West Coast rivalry and USA vs Japan. I guess all the original footage was lost in 9/11 and the cut that they had at the time used unlicensed music so they can't release it, but I believe it still gets screenings at events so if anyone gets the opportunity to see it you definitely should.
  18. Recently completed video games

I finally finished the third Professor Layton game, I was like 10 or so puzzles from the end whenever I last played it (probably when it came out). I really liked it probably my favorite of the three I've played. I guess I'll try and track down the 4th one now.
  19. Nintendo 3DS

For me it was more going from expecting to eventually like it to realizing it wasn't going to happen. I mostly just found it really boring. I do appreciate the random battle slider though.
  20. Comics Extravaganza - Pow Bang Smash!

Yeah I really liked Locke & Key(and We3 for that matter). I think it might be a good thing to not know who Joe Hill is going in, I at first recommend the series to some people and when I told them it was by Stephen King's son they were immediately sceptical.
  21. Comics Extravaganza - Pow Bang Smash!

There were problems with Ex Machina at the end, but it was more on Tony Harris' side of things. Everything felt/looked rushed.
  22. The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)

    New Dear Hunter song http://m.billboard.com/entry/view/id/132199
  23. Comics Extravaganza - Pow Bang Smash!

If you liked it he just started the sequel a month or two back called Providence
  24. The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)

Saw Foxing the other night opening for mewithoutYou. I'd heard of them, but I don't really listen to many modern emo bands I usually just listen to older standard fare like Sunny Day Real Estate or American Football or Mineral. They were insanely good live. They have some post-rock stuff going on that kind of brought me back to Moving Mountains' first album. I've been listening to them a lot since, mostly live videos because I think they're better live than on their album.
  25. Making Music. Tunes by Idle Thumbsters

Sibelius is another notation software like Finale. For more full featured workstation software there's Digital Performer by MOTU, but it's probably in the ballpark of an order of magnitude more than $35. Logic and Pro Tools also have score views, though personally I've never actually used it in Pro Tools I've just used Sibelius and sent stuff into Pro Tools (it's integrated into Pro Tools as both are by Avid, but I think you can also rewire Sibelius into any DAW).
