  1. Feminism

I wholeheartedly agree. Feminism being named "feminism" (suggesting the opposite of chauvinism?) is probably what has contributed the most to make people jump to conclusions about what it is. The word seems to imply that it is about femininity and females when really it would be more aptly named "egalitarianism". Unfortunately that's its name and hey did you know peanuts are neither peas nor nuts? Here is a quick Wikipedia definition: Feminism is a collection of movements aimed at defining, establishing, and defending equal political, economic, and social rights and equal opportunities for women.[1][2][3] Its concepts overlap with those of women's rights. Feminism is mainly focused on women's issues, but because feminism seeks gender equality, some feminists argue that men's liberation is therefore a necessary part of feminism, and that men are also harmed by sexism and gender roles. Feminists are "person whose beliefs and behavior are based on feminism."[4] Feminist theory exists in a variety of disciplines, it emerged from these feminist movements[5][6] and includes general theories[specify] and theories about the origins of inequality, and, in some cases, about the social construction of sex and gender. Feminist activists have campaigned for women's rights—such as in contract, property, and voting — while also promoting women's rights to bodily integrity and autonomy and reproductive rights. They have opposed domestic violence, sexual harassment, and sexual assault. In economics, they have advocated for workplace rights, including equal pay and opportunities for careers and to start businesses. Some of the earlier forms of feminism have been criticized for being geared towards white, middle-class, educated perspectives. This led to the creation of ethnically-specific or multiculturalist forms of feminism.

Are you sure? Are you white, male, and in a first world country?

Uhhh she's not smiling. That's... that's not what smiles look like. Folks there are so many other things I'd love to say (like "it's not about not being able to say offensive shit, it's about whining when people get offended") but I'm just gonna wait for someone to make a feminism thread instead and here's a picture

Yes! It goes both ways. Unless the job is for a ladies' swimsuits model. Edit: also, saying feminism is about the superiority of women is like saying the civil rights movement is about the superiority of the black race.

Those rules are put in place as an attempt to balance out the current sexist (AS IN, DISCRIMINATING WOMEN) status quo. They do get misused at times, and I agree with you that people should get hired entirely due to merit, but it happens just as often that a perfectly qualified woman will not get hired over a less qualified man just because she might get pregnant at some point. Your generalization is not just a generalization; I think it is misinformed about the definition of feminism. Feminism fights for equality. Anything other than that is not feminism. I'd really like to hear exactly why you think that list of incidents – which depict attitudes of hostility, condescension, discrimination, and derision towards women – is about "female superiority". Also, TV shows "for women" such as Lifetime movies and soap operas are INDEED extremely sexist, because they cater to and promote a bunch of stereotypes about both sexes. That is exactly what feminism is against.

That comic is an accurate account of something that actually happened, with the Comic-Making Lady in the comic being Kate Beaton. Some guy with a blog tweeted at her that her comics were so good he'd marry her or something like that, and she replied more or less like she does in the comic. Then the guy got all indignant and made a blog post and the rest is history. That does happen a lot, it just doesn't happen very much in this particular friendly little corner of the internet, and I am glad. Generally guys act like if you don't take a compliment well, even if it's based entirely on your looks/fuckability as opposed to actual accomplishments, then you are a stuck-up bitch. Also btw that comic is done by a guy so the fact that it's a generalization is self-evident. Obviously there are men and women on both sides of the issue, and the women who are like HA HA WHAT A HYSTERICAL BITCH, I AM SO GLAD I'M NOT LIKE OTHER WOMEN AM I RITE GUISE are the worst. The worst.

Agreed, that's why I came here.

I think you misunderstood my statement. I think Pixar makes the best computer-animated movies on a constant basis. The only ungood ones, as ThunderPeel already mentioned, were the Cars ones. I'm not a huge fan of the Toy Story movies, but they're really not bad compared to most other stuff. Aren't those the only two that have had sequels? I tend to dislike Dreamworks movies (the ones that always, ALWAYS, have characters with one eyebrow raised in promotional material) in general; good things like How To Train Your Dragon are a rarity. And other studios try but frequently end up making either horrible stuff (Hoodwinked, Open Season, Polar Express) or mediocre things that look pretty but don't do much else (Happy Feet, Robots, The Tale of Desperaux). I am a horrible snob. What I meant was that it would be very strange if Pixar suddenly started adapting comics into movies, since their regular material is original stories. And I like it that way. Kroms - I'm talking specifically about computer rendered animation. All the examples you posted are absolutely gorgeous to be sure but they are either drawn (best, imo) or stop-action (also best). With that restriction in mind I do think that while Pixar does not have a perfect flawless record they are the best in computer animation. Who did not cry during Up? WHO?? I DEMAND TO KNOW.

  14. Movie/TV recommendations

Yeah, sorry, forgot to mention that. I'd be less concerned if it were being done by Pixar, but adapting a comic would be completely outside their MO, so I'd be concerned for a different reason.
  15. Books, books, books...

Guys, guys. Shhh. In heaven, everything is fine.

Speaking of animation, Bone is being made into a movie. I really wish this were relevant to the animation fps conversation but sadly it's being done in 3D computer animation. I know computer animation can be really beautiful, as evidenced in all non-Cars Pixar movies, but a big part of the beauty of Bone is the line quality an the charm of the drawings. Oh well at least it's not live action.

No, part 1 came out last year. This is the last one. They made tons of money and... already... pulled it off... Wait, is this post from the past? WELCOME TO THE FUTURE, CITIZEN
  18. Alan Moore signing

Yes, thank you for correcting my lazy linking.
  19. Alan Moore signing

I came into this thread expecting a video of Alan Moore singing, and was highly disappointed. I was wondering if maybe it was a fan recording catching him in an impromptu rendition of the song from V For Vendetta or possibly a music video starring his voluminous beard and long flowing mane but alas it was neither and all I have is words about him signing books. And love. Loooooove. So somebody go back there and get him to sing, thanks in advance EDIT: Oh, I forgot - I get my graphic novels from topshelf.com, they are super nice and when they were late with my comic order they tossed like three freebies in there (Rasl, Blindspot, and some other thing I don't remember).
