  1. Half-Life 3

I wonder if GTA5's billion dollars plus will give them a moment's pause about "all multiplayer only" philosophy, though i guess money isn't their primary concern.
  2. Return of the Steam Box!

I would have gone with Steam Engine, which is two puns for one.
  3. Return of the Steam Box!

Steam Box is real! Gauntlet thrown on 4th console!
  4. Return of the Steam Box!

I can see the move being Valve offering a reduced percentage take for any game that is also SteamOS ported, assuming they take 30% now, lowering it 20 or 15.
  5. or wait. IT pitches the idea that Amnesia games be shopped out to promising studios to experiment with. The Campo Santo logo has a horror vibe. You hear it hear first: Amnesia: An Abattoir for Puffins coming 2014.
  6. General Video Game Deals Thread

    Edit! Wrong Thread!
  7. Write An Episode Of Idle Thumbs

reader mail already? what a bunch of bums.
  8. The Spelunky cave isn't going to hurl a bunch of vile invective at your for standing on the wrong ladder for 5 seconds.
  9. Return of the Steam Box!

I hope it's just an illustration. Much of the software they sell is also optimized around 4 button console controllers.
  10. Whoa. Congrats dudes. Power moves. So the last few weeks of podcasting re: F2P mobile apps was MARKET RESEARCH!
  11. Audio books

Update! A Supposedly Fun Thing I'll Never Do Again is really fascinating, but a few points more challenging than I enjoy in an audiobook. The second essay is on TV, irony, and what it all means for fiction writers that is just amazing, but it's a bit heady, and I have to focus more intently on every sentence than if I were reading it, which is kind of hard on a commute.
  12. The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)

Yesss. God, all the Target videos are so good. Treasures.
  13. I find it so hard to fathom that they just won't give us HL3/EP3. i can't think of another instance where there is a lot of money, demand, and potentially fun to be had, where a company just keeps a lid on it.
  14. General Video Game Deals Thread

Free Terraria on Play Store! Edit: Oh wait! this might not be a DEAL!
  15. The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)

For fans of Gone Home Game, one of my favorite records this year:
  16. GTA V

I'm guessing they're probably in a little bit of a panic about this, but rather than go through this charade, where we all know they're not being totally honest, they should just say "we'll sell you the upgrade for $15 or like $30 including the first big DLC." We'll all do it.
  17. GTA V

this song and dance is so weird. "open to a pc release" even though every other GTA is available for PC, it's only grown as a platform, and this is the game that cost you the most?
  18. Audio books

I need a new audiobook! I was thinking some of the other David Foster Wallace stuff, as I've only read (and loved) Infinite Jest. Any recommendations there, or in general? I would prefer something in the ballpark of 20 hours. (~600 page). Fitting the bill there is Broom of the System, Pale King, and A Supposedly Fun Thing I'll Never Do Again. Audiobooks I have previously enjoyed: Wolf Hall Thousand Autumns of Jacob de Zoet The Flamethrowers Red Mars Perdido Street Station
  19. The Sun Also Rises by Ernest Hemingway

I think Sean's Twofor of motorcycle wreck & wedding tossed a wrench in the system.
  20. while i was a child, i spake pizza, i read pizza, i understood pizza, but when i became a man i put away pizza'd things.
  21. Idle Thumbs 122: Mario's Picnic

Oh man, one of my favorites. I love that if you walk like 15 feet south of the starting point it's almost certain death, but if you really push it, you can clear the base.
  22. Idle Thumbs 122: Mario's Picnic

Quick notes on Witcher 2, which I love: 1) I don't think it would be a great "Thumbs Game." In most ways it's a straight forward narrative fantasy RPG with little systematic activity. There are some neat choices, but they are explicit narrative ones, and I feel that IT generally hates that kind of gaming. (Even though it's also the games they actually make. har har 1 luv.) 2) The tutorial was patched in for the Expanded Edition, and not something you ran into in the initial version. Both Witchers 1 & 2 got a free, and comprehensive, upgrade/polish passes almost a year after their releases. One of my favorite qualities of the eastern euro games is their near hostility to the player. "Here, we made this, YOU figure it out." It's a fun mystery!
  23. Feminism

It kind of is run by anonymous organizers, as all the logistics are handled by Reed Exhibitions, one of the countries largest conference companies.
  24. Feminism

I think the closest thing to an answer is try and do your part to listen to women, not talk over/around them, and try to keep your community accountable to some minimum standards. once it's unacceptable to behave that way in a plurality of communities change is inevitable.
  25. Quitter's Club: Don't be ashamed to quit the game.

NO! Gaming is an endless credibility test who's rigor must be constantly reinforced.
