  1. Every plumbing company should feel obligated to use the "#1 in the #2 Business" tag.
  2. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

You seem to have conflated a few points in a way that I'm not following, but to be honest I'm not interested in debating this with you. There is nothing you will say that will make me think Eron's actions were anything other than vile, and resulted in severe harm to a significant number of other people.
  3. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

I always saw Eron as a very intellectual person with semi-decent people skills. He was always super friendly and everyone had good things to say about him. All this says is that person is a lousy judge of character. No level of romantic spurning justifies sending a hate mob after a person, leading to months of death threats and harassment. Also, I'm sure you'll find plenty of people who thinks his actions are truly abhorrent.
  4. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

i don't know why, but it always manages to sort of surprised me that so many people are still so vehement about their righteousness, and that Eron and now his buddy are on record like that. the doublespeak of the comments also boggles the mind.
  5. Unnecessary Comical Picture Thread

Sounds like a compatriot of the genius Chuck Tingle, who I'm sure you all know from the erotic ebooks "Pounded in the Butt by My Own Butt" "Pounded by President Bigfoot" and Pounded in the Butt by My Book Pounded in the Butt by My Own Butt" (available on Amazon)
  6. Movie/TV recommendations

Oh, I think if it ended the other way it would have been momentarily satisfying/sweet but the kind of thing that festers overnight. At least with me. Also, it would have undermined everything else the movie was saying about gender/masculinity.

  9. Movie/TV recommendations

Caught one time Thumbs sponsor Ex-Machina this weekend, and wound up enjoying it quite a bit. Nicely paced, quiet science fiction movie with two really great performances by Alicia Vikander and Oscar Issac, and a solid visual/sonic design. I was a little worried that ending was going to turn into Also, I think he did a nice job on the gender commentary, both explicit (the tech bro) and implicit (the nice guyTM).
  10. [Release] Introduction To Video Games

Good god. Do you live in some world with 80 hour days?!
  11. Desktop Dungeons

I haven't tried the update, but this game is a hoot, and it can be brain breakingly hard. (for me)
  12. [RELEASE] Could I borrow your hair? (I Like the Hair)

    haha, fair enough!
  13. [RELEASE] Could I borrow your hair? (I Like the Hair)

will it be correlating responses (web player?), or just local?
  14. Star Wars VII - Open spoilers

it was a long long time ago. no participation trophies.
  15. Star Wars VII - Open spoilers

it also does a tremendous disservice to the samurai legends that begat the whole saga. even in the shlockier stuff a deadly master would often be portrayed as wielding great force with little action, or even their hair. it's really hard to focus on any one thing. just total failures of planning and execution.
  16. star trek could be funny at times, but they were uniformly terrible at comedy.
  17. The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)

2015 better be Sheer Mag's year!
  18. Nobody expects the Dragon Age Inquisition

I'm near the end, What Pride has Wrought, and realized I hadn't even been to the Hissing Wastes yet, which brings me to my main complaint: I feel like individual parts of the game are well done but it's very poorly knit together. It's more obvious where the seam lines are, with self contained content bites. So much of the world barely ties into the rest of the major story, aside from being places that you have to go and close rifts. Related: It would have been cool if Skyhold (and other strongholds/cities) were under perpetual demon siege and closing rifts had some effect on that. The core campaign path is actually seems kind of short compared the total content, and a lot of that world stuff seems downgraded to codex entries. Every map is full of medieval text messages, where you never catch up with the people sending. I feel like in other the other games you'd eventually catch up to the lovers or the vengeful brothers. Now, it always seems like the end is a desiccated skeleton. My memory of the previous game also involved your party members having more to say about the places you went. Hissing Wastes is a good example, and also the one where I think they did the best job of it. I liked this zone's theme, and Varric has something to say about each ruin, but when you get to the last one, it's just a chest, and he just delivers the one line like "I guess this is what the paragon had made" and that's it? He talks about the myth of paragons becoming living stone, which would have been a cool opportunity to do something with that, either have it be true, or not true and be something to talk about.
  19. Who did you hook up with? (Mass-Effect series)

Tali doesn't get down with ladies, but she was too good a friend, and my perpetual party member. I also didn't want to spoil the mystery of what's under the suit. I also agree on the strength of the non-romantic relationships, which I think were generally more robust/better fleshed out than the Dragon Ages, where DA2 got the closest.
  20. [RELEASE] Could I borrow your hair? (I Like the Hair)

    I've participated! Funny idea!
  21. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

Yeah. Are a few sleazy opportunists getting over worth the possibility of the dummies realizing they wasted their money? I assume almost all these organizations are basically grifts, and hope that at some point people would catch on.
  22. Idle Thumbs 206: Owen Wilson's Nose

I've enjoyed the recent rotating host segments. If we include guests I think they have all been interesting, thoughtful people who have brought a good energy to their episodes. I wonder if it helps in the face of the OLD TIMERS have less ability/time to devote to games broadly. To that end I think Danielle has been super vital to the show, both in enthusiasm for new stuff and a general optimism.
  23. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

Haha. almost 10k in donations down the drain.
  24. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

As somebody who works a large (26k) nerd conference dealers room, you spend an INSANE amount of time trying to get these shithead vendors to put away stuff you don't want sold. Like we have a hard "no weapons of any kind" policy and most recently had to tell the same table to put away the same goddamn weapons like 2 or 3 times a day, every day for 3 days. what would be more effective than pounding the conference would be to focus on the vendor selling it and tell people not to patronize that vendor.
  25. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

these people can obviously cause great harm to women through their actions but what kind of idiot wastes their time that kind of banal thinking? what medieval corner of the world does this shitheel live in where he thinks a woman needs to promote fertility? again, if it weren't that they can leverage significant harm it'd be totally ridiculous.
