  1. Haha, I was J Mallard. The main point in the game that broke me was Kevin Spacey's betrayal. Since the beginning, we had been working together (as blues brothers, so to speak), and decided that we needed to take out one of the border players to even stand a chance. Poor Crazy Crane was chosen. Once that war was seemingly won, I asked Spacey who he wanted to target next and he said Sax. Over the next day or two I was gearing up for the attack on Sax, but Spacey's messages became short and few. It didn't help that when I was trying to coordinate attacks against Sax, I sent the message TO Sax instead and got to watch him wrestle with this diplomatic leak. After I sent the first wave into Sax's territory, I see the fleet of Kevin Goddamn Spacey pointing my way. I was legit bummed after that. And that's how Neptune's Pride taught me that I should never trust anyone. But Kevin, I was super surprised you hadn't told Sax about your plan. If you had have ganged up on me I would have been screwed. Also, I tried to get Uhrmungle on my side by the end of it, to keep Sax down and me up hopefully. But Uhr was pretty resigned by then, and the game just kind of fizzled out. Cheers for the game thumbs, it was a weird month.
  2. Game 2 is over. Congrats, Sax.
  3. DOTA 2

Oh wow, I didn't realise Valve just traced over Dota patch notes. I guess they'd lose scene cred by going against the genre creator, but it still seems weird to put your game's balance in third party hands.
  4. DOTA 2

How do Dota patches affect Dota 2? I'm still fairly new, so I'm still not sure what the relationship between them is like. Does Valve implement icefrog's will, or do they diverge somewhat?
  5. Feminism

The writer of BL2 is at least acknowledging his usage of the trope:https://twitter.com/reverendanthony/status/339484894956765185
  6. The Thumbs vs GB Dota smackdown is coming.
  7. Sending messages to the wrong people is hilarious, and happened to me in game #2. That feeling of impending dread when you realise the mistake is what makes NP so goddamn good.
  8. «Game Shop»

Baaarf. Kept hoping they'd turn it around by the end, but it was even worse than expected.
  9. Curiosity – What's Inside the Cube?

Yeah, sharing the prize is a bit like live-streaming your trip to Wonka's factory.
  10. These "Great Gatsby" fan covers are good

Was expecting 20 images of green lights and 20 yellow cars, but was pleasantly surprised! Particularly like the headless tux one.
  11. Official "Idle Thumbs Motorcycle Club" leather jacket with a rhinestone wizard on the back.
  12. The threat of Big Dog

Finally. A robot that can beat Takeshi's Castle. http://youtu.be/9yiVWwsCMyo
  13. No love for Dyad?

Psychedelic Wipeout-esque Dyad has recently been released from the prison known as "PS3 downloadable title", and is now available for PC and Mac. I haven't spent a whole load of time with it yet, and it's pretty baffling a lot of the time, but when you get in the zone, it's a really gorgeous experience. There's some neat dynamic music stuff thrown in there too. Leigh Alexander and Quintin Smith wrote a sort of epistolary review thing: http://www.gamasutra.com/view/feature/182086/hey_baby_do_you_dyad_a_letter_.php http://www.dyadgame.com/
  14. Other things like mana-burn and dodge chance were removed from LoL over the years, as they led a crusade against "anti-fun" mechanics. While this removed the insane edge cases brought about by these mechanics, it's arguably a much flatter game without them. By removing denying, LoL passively promotes skirmishes much more than Dota, which arguably leads to decent e-sportsy things. The EU/NA meta scene in LoL pretty much revolves entirely around champion kills, while Asia is much more into straight farming games. But yeah, I agree that the options for controlling a lane are pretty non-existant in LoL.
  15. Current game 2 status: I think we can establish that the cyclops icon is overpowered and needs to be nerfed.
  16. Jake seemed way further to the left than usual in this episode. But the stereo is great in general.
  17. If you're willing to wait a day, episodes are uploaded to youtube with really handy timestamps. (Whoever updates the channel doesn't get a whole load of mentions, but they're doing a great job.)
  18. I play on EUW under "Kajimi", so feel free to add me or whatever. It's weird how few LoL players are on here.
  19. Ships only move based on hourly ticks, right? Ships used to move in real-time in NP1. Is it possible to game this system a bit by launching ships just before the tick, reducing the launch time? Or is there still a mandatory launch period?
  20. In Professional LoL news, a team called "Wizards Club" lost in the playoffs and didn't make it into the summer season. Who the hell am I supposed to root for now?
  21. Current game 2 progress:
  22. The threat of Big Dog

BZZT ID PLEASE...I'M SORRY BUDDY WE'RE FULL TONIGHT BZZT And the scene of it turning the key in a door is surely the opening to some terrifying cybernoir film.
  23. Phaedrus gets to end every message with PHAEDRUS OUT. The RP basically writes itself.
  24. Can we get the obligatory picture of player names?
