Yeah for as much as I love this series, I haven't beaten any of the games. I got to the last bosses of parts 1 and 3 (well, "last bosses" for the narrative; in all the games there's post-story content). Part 2 I got to the third stratum, which was snow-filled, but I fell away from it. I really need to pick it back up.

What was the most Idle Thumbs thing to happen without Idle Thumbs?

I came here to post about Peter Molyneux saying that the industry isn't ready for Milo, but that Pokemon tournament story is... wow. -
You're in the fiery (3rd) stratum right? I always thought of it as being a bit easier than the 2nd stratum.
-
The second one is more or less version 2.0 of the first game - yes I know this sounds silly to say, but hear me out. It's the same classes, with the three new ones obviously, and all their skills persist. But they're tuned up and refined to be more balanced, stronger in some areas, and weaker (and thus less overpowered) in others. So when I say 2.0, it's like in the context of an MMO or whatever. That's probably a bad way to describe it. Bottom line is, you'll like part two. Part three will kinda change your view on a lot of shit though. They perfected the art of synergies between classes in part 3, which kinda has two layers happening with that because you can subclass after a certain point.

I haven't looked into the optional pay stuff, if any. I know people are throwing around the term "pay to win" in a manner of drumming up fear, but it's a misused term for... well, everything. Though I imagine there have been past examples of it being the case.
-
Hang on a second, "gracefully" is an actual term within the defined specification? I thought that was Remo just jazzing up the fact as he was presenting it. If I had to guess, a 'graceful' fail just means the program itself is like, boop, error. Rather than making your computer shit a brick and bluescreen, right?

Here's another thing. Makes me feel old thinking back to the HUD and presentation of Mechwarrior 2, and now in this game everything is just detailed as all can be, the HUD looks amazing, the sound of your mech getting hit by explosives... it's just great.
-
I'm only a few minutes into listening, but that little fact Chris drops regarding Microsoft's Windows 95 certification blows my mind (IGN.com). Like what the hell.
-
It's kinda killing me inside that the game is going to play out the timeline of the Clan Invasion in real time. We have to wait like a year or two before clans are put into the game. Not that I'm knowledgeable on whatever lore there is to Battletech, but Mechwarrior 2 left a huge impression on me. Plus, Timberwolf is a cooler name for a mech than "Mad Cat."

What was the most Idle Thumbs thing to happen without Idle Thumbs?

It took me a second to realize what was going on there. Oh man. -
I don't think there's any evidence to sup-

Yes it is possible for both sides of an issue (the internet vs. Phil Fish over the years, apparently) to be assholes. It doesn't matter who casts the first stone, one side can take things more gracefully and hurling him / herself against the jagged rocks of the internet.
-
I'm under the impression that the origin of "a grenade rolled down a hill" happened off air, and we're just left with it being a thing about Far Cry 2.
-
If any one of those comments came from someone with a public face, feel free to boycott their product or services. As for me, I have two assholes in the same timespan to harbor a hatred for - Rush Limbaugh and Phil Fish. Both made the same error (inflammatory speech on a public medium), and both continue to not rectify the situation. Edit - The bottom line however is in that last quoted comment - In the age of the internet, negative comments (be they warranted or not) will come. And there is a skill involved in dealing with them. Phil Fish does not have that skill, which earns him more negative views.

Actually, I have a better idea. Later tonight I'm going to write a letter to Gamasutra, or rather the direct organizers of GDC, and make the demand that they never allow this guy at the event ever again in any capacity. Not even as an observer. This is ridiculous. I would urge others to write the same letter.
-
Pulling this from elsewhere: So uh, I'm not exactly convinced that this Phil Fish guy is an upstanding example in any way. His piss-poor behavior and antics really have me on the verge of saying "Nobody buy his goddamn game when it comes out," which I mean, boycotting is kind of a silly thing and my convictions on video games usually don't go to such extremes. But even if this is all shtick, the guy should realize it's not funny to anyone but him. Usually when stuff like this is shtick, it's clear within itself that it is. But no, this guy seems to be the real deal - he seems to have gotten it within his head he's something and can mouth off. And I've said it in the past of other people (more important, ACTUAL public figures), the best way to teach them a lesson is to hit their wallets.

GDC 2012: The Death of Nick Breckon
Henroid replied to Jake's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
And I'm Nick Breckon. -
I'm convinced at this point that there is a marketable demographic that responds to the phrase "downloadable content" as a thing to go "FUCK YEAH" over and will buy into. And marketing to that demo is more worthwhile than marketing to the rest of us who see through that crap.

GDC 2012: The Death of Nick Breckon

I cannot tell you guys how pleased I was to hear that discussion about Super Metroid. It also kinda opened my eyes to how much I've taken the game for granted. I've played the game at least once every year since it's come out. I've got the game nailed down to like 40 minutes of gameplay with 100% items (I am ridiculous). So there's a lot of rooms that I just see glimpses of, and there's rooms I never even go through. I haven't played it that way since the first time mind you, but when all of the visuals and layout of the game became routine, I switched over into "dominate this game now." -
It can also be argued that Microsoft 'fathered' modern video gaming, with XBox Live and making console online play a huge thing. But it's not an argument I'm actually interested in having, nor is it a position I can really defend. But yeah. That guy who mouthed off on Japan, this is the first time I've heard of his game (wow what a bad impression). You'd think someone working on his first game would be more humble. And I've seen people bring up like Cliffy B in comparison, and while I won't defend it necessarily, Cliffy B is at least established already and sorta paid his dues. Again, that doesn't make it okay, but the difference is the shock factor. In this case, it's some dude without a finished game mouthing off. Like what? He's also not doing a good job in the aftermath. His twitter feed had a post that pretty much said, "Sorry but it's true, your games suck!" I don't think he's qualified the opinion yet either.
-
That's exactly it. And it's not wrong necessarily, but man, it really does suck because we end up on missing out on things. Localization seems to have a growing negative stigma. But it could just be some odd hiccup.

I was just now saying elsewhere on the net that I've been critical of Japan in the VG industry as of late, but I'm at least able to point to why I'm saying that (it's focused on the business decision end - like Konami not wanting to pursue Castlevania a lot because it's not a 'money maker,' Capcom's treatment of Mega Man as of late (and fans), etc). And I try to not make it like a random out of ass insult. "YOU GUYS SUCK" or whatever. As for the "spiritual home" comment, I'm not sure what you're taking offense to. From the perspective of "Nintendo is in Japan" it makes sense I guess, maybe. That's not as big a problem as "ALL OF JAPAN'S GAMES SUCK."

Uh oh, bad shit happened at GDC. http://www.develop-online.net/news/40061/GDC-Japanese-dev-mocked-your-games-suck
