Chris sold me on this Civ 5 expansion. I require it, there is nothing else that will satisfy me. Anyway back to fortifying my doors and windows for the robot insurrection.

Does this count? This totally counts.

Coming up with metaphors is hard. This one is way better. -

I don't deny that being fair or the right way to do it if you're gonna do it, but again, I don't see how jailbreaking hurts Square's software they're selling you. Like imagine if iTunes stopped working on your PC because you have Winamp installed also. I dunno why you'd have both in the first place but still. -

I have a vague memory of a flash game that was puzzly in nature, where you had to climb up stairs to the next floor (it was time limit based). It was impossible to finish the game on a single life, but when you continued your previous lives would all be doing their thing and solve puzzles, or parts of puzzles, as you progressed. I can't remember where it is on the net nor its name. -

Square has noted today an update is coming out for the game to remove the hostile reaction to jailbroken devices. But there's a catch. They said they're doing this because they did a poor job at communicating this would happen. It means it was intentional, and that they likely will do this again on future apps (only better note that it will be needlessly hostile). I don't understand the motivation here. Jailbreaking isn't illegal, which also means it can't be against Apple's TOS or EULAs or whatever. It isn't paramount to piracy. Square literally gains nothing by locking software if your device is jailbroken. There's no piracy prevention, there's no corporate handjobs to give out, there is literally nothing to gain. -

So Deus Ex: The Fall has anti-jailbreaking 'tech' built into it. If your device is jailbroken, the game will display a popup when you attempt to fire any weapon - a necessity for the tutorial. I think this is a first for video games, if not jailbreaking detection and action based on it. I'm just disappointed it isn't conveyed in the game logic. Like the guy's vision gets a glitch when he tries to pull the trigger. "What's wrong?!" The comm cues in. "Your augmentations... they're... they're jailbroken!" Edit - Now with more screenshot. -

She's had some days already to cope with things (time heals all wounds, or so I've heard). Specifically, https://twitter.com/EnemyNanner/status/354341391213662209

I don't know what to say really aside from what I wrote elsewhere on the net, so I'll just use that: The timing of this - for him and his wife - is just really not fair. I hate describing it like that but what else is there? This is the worst. RIP Ryan, and my thoughts and prayers are there for his friends and loved ones.

So Rogue Legacy has some pretty great music. The forest track is so good.
-
We did? Am I that not-old? I'm pushing 30 and have never heard "doomlike" used unironically.
-
You can always blame Nick since he couldn't remember Rogue Legacy's title, and he was the one who brought up Paradox. It was his seg to make.

What is this Steve Gaynor story? hahahaha

There was some talk elsewhere on the net (it wasn't sourced but I trusted the people saying this) that he had also been in talks to join Electronic Arts. It set off this chain reaction of thought in my head that it would explain why the XB1, up until like a week or two ago, was pretty much built on EA's online business plans. But that's very tinfoil hatty. -
Admittedly you do have to be receptive to the type of charm the game has, but the good news is if that you are then you're getting your money's worth. I'm not sure how else to add to describing the game aside from it being neat. There's a goal and objectives to meet or else you fail, but the way the whole thing is presented doesn't make it stressful or play on my emotions.

Confirmed that Mattrick is going to be Zynga's CEO in like a week. The question is, why would he join a sinking ship? I kinda have a cynical view of this. I think Mattrick was going to retire and this door opened to him, so he'd rather retire as a CEO and with its retirement package than the position he had at MS. Also that Atlus news, according to Atlus USA they won't be affected by what's going on. -
Escapism isn't something that can be engineered. It's a motivation.

Probably not. Also now that I think about it, describing it as a "con" is actually a really mean way of putting how I got into that class. I actually dropped by a week before classes started just to visit her, and my teacher convinced me to change my class-selection last minute. It required doing a book report over the summer and I did it with the few days left to me. She was super great and loved by everyone (except for homophobes; she was a lesbian). I didn't outright decide to not read The Great Gatsby. I just didn't. I was chaotic like most teenagers are. All I know of the book is that Gatsby is a guy who throws parties and he likes a girl. I think? Oh god I hope I got that much right at least. (the funny thing is when I heard some samples of the music from the latest film I got outraged about historical / setting accuracy)
-
I am the guy the sponsor pitch was addressing apparently. I've never read The Great Gatsby. I was supposed to back in highschool but I managed to scrape by the class ignoring the book completely. Best part: it was an honors class, which I conned my way into because all my friends were getting into it and our favorite teacher was going to be teaching it.

It's showing up on NeoGAF that Index, the parent company of Atlus, has filed for bankruptcy. Atlus is a substantial company. I mean, look: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Atlus_games I hope this doesn't mean automatic doom for them. If they can continue to operate and not have to change, I'll be happy. It's kinda depressing enough just having the idea presented that we won't get anymore games from them. -
Nick "The Rock" Breckon?

More fun with titles in other languages.

Also I asked my ex what the Jurassic Park of video games would be and she showed me this.

Man, Braid is not the Clerks of video games. I don't worship Clerks as a film, but I enjoy it, and that doesn't seem accurate at all. Cart Life is the Clerks of video games.
