MCV has a lot of balls to say anything about this, given it was them (now that I remember) that had a Square employee writing for them and giving Hitman favorable press.

One of the first times I'd heard of doxing, it was used against a lawyer based in Florida that was doing something regarding eliminating privacy for the common folk (forgive me, I can't remember the details exactly, it's been a few years). Or maybe it was him disregarding someone's privacy for some court case or another and being a brazen dick about it. At any rate, the internet struck back by doxing him. Back then, I thought, "This could be a useful thing to do to people like that guy." Surprise, it hasn't happened since. Every incident of doxing since then has been against people for having opinions about this or that, and it's generally become a shitty practice.
  3. Congrats Nick. Edit - That didn't go as planned at all!
  4. P.T (Playable Teaser for Silent Hills)

Y'know, this has me thinking about how I conduct myself in real life. I'm not adventurous at all, and live my life to guard my mortality as much as possible. It's more or less constant fear, though it's easily shirked by telling people 'no.' Playing games, I don't often relate things to real life in any way, not unless someone brings it up in discussion. It evokes thoughts and all, but fear is never an emotional response I've had.
  5. I hate to recycle a post I made elsewhere on the same forum but I am interested if, at all, any of the Thumbs have anything to bounce off of this. The tl;dr being scary games as a genre / theme and their value or success of execution. I do want to note with a lot of emphasis again that I don't question or put down anyone that are into being scared and such. That mechanism is just broken for me, or something.
  6. P.T (Playable Teaser for Silent Hills)

Maybe it's a thrill thing. I don't personally care to be scared, but also don't mind / care if other people desire it. It's just not for me. On top of that though, it is really difficult for me to consume media and be scared as part of the experience. I've looked into video games too much to be scared by them, because I'm just reading the Matrix. "Where's the trigger volume" type shit. And it's the same with films / television (I have some amateur education in production). And in both cases it's that writing has gotten predictable with creating fear. - show something gross - show something abrupt / sudden I actually give Don't Starve a lot of credit for its presentation of fear / paranoia, via its sanity system. If anyone hasn't played it still, as your sanity decays the game's presentation changes over time, to the eventual point of the game world changing. It starts off with seeing shadows dash about at the edge of your vision, which is a really delicate, masterful stroke. It isn't just playing on the character in the game-world, it kinda plays on you. "What the fuck was that?" That said it didn't terrify me, and I wasn't seeking it, but the presentation was something different than what game tend to do. Like was discussed in the latest episode of Idle Thumbs, the Silent Hills PT felt like a haunted house structured thing, which to me is just cheesy, predictable, and ineffective. I guess part of me is dead or I'm flawed as a person. I just hate that this was the direction being taken because I do enjoy the Silent Hill series. It was less about being terrified and more about the mystery of what is going on exactly.

For a second there, I thought, "Dwayne Johnson?!

    Speaking of the Attorney General,
  9. I'm just now listening but I fucking loved Chris', "Awww Kojima, come on!" when hearing about PT, and then Nick and Jake both start into the shit that annoyed me about it. I had the same reaction when I was seeing through the presentation layer.
  10. I love that lawyers actually argued, "But if we don't get our client's way it'll be annoyiiiinnnnnng" and essentially stamped their feet.

Reminds me of when Obama fist-bumping his wife was called a "terrorist fist jab" without irony.

Me and my big mouth, someone I know opened up their mouth about Ferguson. Their position was that the protesters are getting what they deserve and the media was asking for it. This person lives in the UK and had a... interesting position about the London riots. Anyway, came here to post a couple things. First, supposedly the cop who was on film pointing his assault rifle at people and saying he would kill them has been "suspended indefinitely." Whatever that means. I hope it means fired. http://bigstory.ap.org/article/officer-who-pointed-gun-protesters-suspended Second, a PMC has been contracted to protect one individual, not disclosed who, that is going to be in Ferguson. They've been deployed into the shit in the Middle East and such, and now... a metropolitan area. http://www.theverge.com/2014/8/20/6050937/private-military-in-ferguson

This isn't a raid for drugs or contraband. It's because they're food and first aid supplies. How is the president not going, "Okay that's it." I mean I understood so far because if he takes a hard stance, it invigorates his political opponents to fight him on other issues. But come on, how can anyone think this is acceptable?

All I have left to say is that Twitter seems to have abandoned this debacle. Which means people are probably done getting their flaccid jabs in (because they never cared that much in the first place). So it's probably done.

    What the actual fuck.
  16. Feminism

I've never seen a game developer raked over the coals for manipulating video game journalists (who aren't actually journalists but that's another issue) like Zoe has been. This isn't about fighting for integrity. It's about beating up a woman from across the net.

I have yet to have IRL encounters with people unaware of the protests or against them. I came close today in having two phone calls with my mother (who sides with terribleness at all times) but luckily they weren't chit-chat phone calls. Otherwise I would've gone nuts.
  18. P.T (Playable Teaser for Silent Hills)

Okay, so a friend was really insisting that I watch the Game Grumps play through the PT. One of them had played it before and knew how to get through things, but he didn't tell the other, and was BS'ing himself along. This sold me on the concept way better than a couple streams I watched. It was more concise and tightly woven together. It sucks that someone has to have foresight to make it this way, but now I enjoyed it.

The easiest way to figure out people's agenda on this is to ask them for their thoughts and info on the money that exchanges hands for review scores (or other benefits). Because that shit is not new and goes on quite a bit. I can't remember the site, it's based out of the UK, but it was quite infamous a couple years ago for some conflict-of-interest, specifically starting with a Hitman game.

Int does effect max mana and its regen. It could be a matter of diminishing your downtime (while also buffing up your right click, as infrequent as it may be needed).
  21. Feminism

I wish internet dweller would channel all this energy of exposing conflict-of-interest on other mediums, rather than inconsequential shit. This isn't even about a video game, it's about review scores. Which I thought were widely denounced by the internet in the first place. All of a sudden they matter? If these people were to investigate the private lives of any video game developer or publisher, I think their heads would spin. Nobody in this world is a saint, be it malicious, mistakes, or misunderstandings. But most of what makes that true is between those directly involved and nobody else's goddamn business.

So there's a protest going on outside CNN's headquarters over their smear campaign of Mike Brown. https://twitter.com/LeSeanThomas/status/501575469913755649
